Kapitel 5: Magic

I was vaguely aware of the fact that magic exists in this world, but I had not seen anyone use it until one day I witnessed my mother and a maid reheating my cold meal together. It wasn't thoroughly astonishing, as the display was not as impressive as the ones I have seen on TV and cinema and the efficiency of the magic was extremely low. It is also evident from the lack of hygiene and technology. However, despite all this, there is magic in this world and the sheer fact made me somewhat extremely interested. Auxiliary support for biological life sounds extremely pleasant to me and could be the greatest tool for me, besides, it can probably be used as an energy source.

I asked Lady Goddess if magic was renewable or if it was finite, but she gave me a confident laugh as if to say "who do you think I am? Of course, it is infinite and completely environment friendly!". Well, no offense to Lady Goddess, but I have to experiment myself to see if it is true. When I thought about this, Lady Goddess made a pouty sound. By the way, I can now understand her expressions and what she means from the faint sounds she makes.

After seeing my mother and the maid demonstrating magic for me, I then started to experiment to see if I can make this mysterious power my own.

In the first three months of my trial and error, I ended up pooping myself while trying to feel the magic, which made Lady Goddess laugh so hard that I thought for a second that she increased the volume of her voice in my ears, and it was extremely embarrassing. Despite all the hardship, I didn't feel anything special. I then asked Lady Goddess if it was related to my infancy and whether or not I'll come to feel it naturally as I grow up, but from what I could gather from her giggles, there must be a way to feel it.

I then moved on to try to get a feeling for the magic by doing the same thing that my mother and the maid did, by heating something. The only thing they gave me as an infant was a toy horse, so I tried it on that. Just like my first trial, I couldn't heat the toy after trying for two weeks.

After that failure, I decided to take a different approach. I tried to "move" magic like a muscle at my first tries, so although I was skeptical, I decided to try to feel it and then command it. I tried to chant like in the movies and games, but it only made Lady Goddess laugh at me.

Then, I tried to take a different approach yet again. I tried to imitate a yoga session from a scene I saw. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing. I tried to empty my head and focus only on my senses without thinking about anything in particular. After about a week of breathing exercises, I felt a little itchy in my chest, when I tried to scratch that spot, something amazing happened: I felt that energy travel to my fingers. I then reached for the toy. When I grabbed it, I tried to heat it by spreading the magic energy across the surface of the toy and rotating it at a high speed like that of rubbing sticks to make fire by friction. After a few seconds of heating, the toy became so hot that I instinctively dropped it from my hands.

The wooden toy almost caught fire, but I didn't care about it as I was basking in the glory of my success after a long series of failures. I was laughing while Lady Goddess was cheering me on and congratulating me. For the next few months, I focused solely on feeling the magic and I managed to feel it almost instinctively. The first thing I noticed then was the fact that compared to my parents and the servants around me, I was filled with magic power. I guess this is only natural considering Lady Goddess herself created this body and soul.

After that, I tried using magic in many different ways and the conclusion I came to is that you can't really create matter out of magic power outside the body, but you can use magic as a substitute for nutrition and you can increase or decrease your heart rate and blood flow speed. I didn't want to die from the lack of oxygen in case something went wrong, so I didn't experiment as much, but I could also increase the oxygen in my blood in specific parts of my body. It is like doping.

One thing I noticed was that magic in this world has no offensive uses. You can't create fireballs out of magic because you need fuel for the fire to sustain and bending the air or creating wind is incredibly inefficient, so no fireballs like in games. However, magical energy itself can affect the matter, therefore I could use telekinesis, though in a very limited time and area. Still, it gave me an area to train and improve.

I wasn't particularly upset with the lack of offensive power of magic, on the contrary, it is better this way as the knowledge I have can better be used against and for normal humans. I still have many things to experiment on with magic though, like animals and plants, and most importantly, I am now a little over two years old. Therefore, I am allowed a bit more freedom and I can use this to gain a better understanding of this world.
