55.55% Crazy German Prince / Chapter 10: Football

Kapitel 10: Football

At my bombshell remarks, the three men stare at me with bewildered and dazed expressions.

"Your highness this may be rude but the automobile industry is still in its infancy, with demand for cars not yet that high. If we run the company like this going forward we'll only go broke."

"Wilhelm and I agree with Mr. Benz' remarks your highness. We appreciate his highness' heart and desire, but we don't believe the company can run this way."

"I understand the gentlemen's concerns, but may I show you these data first."

In order to convince them, I show the three data of my company. Particularly the difference in productivity and efficiency before and after I implemented the same policies. When they see the graph's spike upwards, their initial look of concern turn into a contemplative expression.

"As you can see, my policies aren't simply coming from a good heart. Data proves that my methods are good for business. But since these policies were implemented in an industry with low-compatibility, the revenues weren't as explosive."

"Now superimpose this data in the automobile industry, an industry that requires constant and skilled-labor. Not only will the factory spit out more products, but skilled workers from rival companies will flock to Daimler-Benz, widening the gap between us and them."

At my words, the three men were finally convinced. We continued to talk and proceeded to finalize the structure of the new company. I also mentioned my other idea of the assembly line technique.

After the discussions were over I made Daimler, the Chief Technical Officer with Maybach as Chief Designer, and finally Benz as the Chief Executive Officer. To make them work harder in the future I also gifted each of them a 5% stake of the new company.

********************

A month passes and I embark on another project. My favorite sport and in the future, the world's most popular sport, Football. At first I started looking for football teams that I could acquire in order to make things simpler, but most of them weren't to my taste. So in the past few months I've been building one from the ground up.

And on December 20, 1898 my football club was finally formed.

Fußball-Club Berliner 1898, or FC Berlin.

For the logo and I kit I pretty much ripped off Real Madrid by completely imitating them.

I proceeded to meet all the new members of my club. 11 players and the sole manager. I wanted to make the club fully professional, but with all football clubs in Germany presently being amateur I compromised by making a semi-pro team. With my promise of paying them 1 Reichsmark for every victory all of them were enthusiastic to start.

After the greetings, the club marked their founding with a match with local team BFC Germania. The game started with FC Berlin playing sluggishly. Perhaps they were nervous playing their first game in front of me, or maybe they simply haven't built up ample chemistry. But considering that they're playing against a team founded 10 years earlier, its a good performance.

In the 34th minute a BFC Germania player breaks through our team's defense and runs through on goal. He continues to sprint and finally a one-on-one with our goalkeeper, he shoots a rocket with his right foot and goal.

BFC Germania 1 - FC Berlin 0

The Germania fans proceed to clap and cheer. Meanwhile FC Berlin's players resume the match even more sluggishly. At this I stand up, and cheer them up.

"Come on guys! The game isn't even halfway done! We still have more time to get the win!"

After shouting I see that both players and spectators look at me with a look of bewilderment alike.

"Wow. The prince seems to like football more than I thought."

"I know, I thought it was simply curiosity but he seems to care more than expected."

Gerhard Müller, FC Berlin Captain

'The prince is showing us great trust, not only that but he promises to pay for every victory. We shouldn't betray his expectations.'

The captain's thoughts aren't solitary, all FC Berlin players share the same thoughts.

36th minute, Gerhard Müller scores an equalizer.

70th minute, BFC Germania Franz Schmidt heads a goal in to make it 2-1.

FC Berlin once again rallies at my encouragement and in the 82nd minute they equalize from a 15 meter banger from Jacob Wagner.

And on the 89th minute, with the final moments of the game a corner kick is given to FC Berlin.

Jacob Wagner takes the corner kick, he takes his time and looks for one player, the captain. Throughout the game Gerhard Müller has been the most active player for us, although not technically excellent, his constant activity and energetic runs have been a source of inspiration for the team.

With a kick, Wagner sends a precision ball to the near post. Müller seeing the ball runs up, jumps, makes contact with his head and GOAAAAAL!!!!

OMG! 89th minute! Air Müller!!!

At the crazy scene I ignore my surroundings and go wild. I see the players all running towards Gerhard and I join in the celebrations and run up to them and hug them.
