Lucien wasn't sure how much more he could take, but he'd come too far to give up now.
Determination had taken root inside his exhausted limbs, and even as he stood there, shaking, trembling, regretting his decision immensely, he knew that the only way out was through. He should have known better than to try and take on the big guns. His ego had derailed the path of logic beneath the streak of effortless victories, and he'd let it get in the way of his decision making.
Arrogance had brought him this far, but it could take him no further. He didn't stand a chance. He couldn't win. It was impossible. But pride had him pushing through and following through with his decision all the same. His backpack was heavy, burdened beneath all the treasures and supplies of his journey, but it didn't take long to find what he was after.
