Kapitel 15: The dragon’s den

Arja was relieved. She was right and in front of her eyes was standing a full village. All the habitants were the same kind of humanoids, children were coming furtively. They were very curious to see strangers. A little girl caressed discreetly Arja's hair before running away giggling. Arja couldn't stop herself and laughed a bit. Typhon was talking with them for longer than her. She turned to him.

"Typhon, did you have information about the other team?"

Typhon was serious suddenly.

"These people never saw anybody outside of Rika's desert. They explained to me that they are the only habitants there. The other team didn't meet them, now we are sure that there is nobody to rescue anymore..."

Arja was invaded by sadness, she also was relieved that they had the luck to meet these people.

Someone gave her a bowl and they could all enjoy a warm dinner. Zuline sat in front of her. Arja watched her and asked her.

"What about the dragon?"

After these words, people around became silent. They all turned to Zuline, waiting for her answer. Arja noticed that they seemed a bit afraid to talk without her consent and this subject may be complicated.

"His name is Clyss. We are his guardians, his protectors."

Typhon and Arja were in suspense. Zuline hesitated a bit before continuing. She sighed heavily.

"Clyss is a dragon. Recently, people came to fight him. He was furious and destroyed everything in front of him, including the vanguard you came from. Clyss came back to his den. We know you came for the people that attacked him. After taking some rest I will lead you there for you to find them and leave the desert with what's left of their bodies."

After this, Zuline stood up and left. The men around Typhon slapped his shoulder.

"Zuline is always so sad. Don't worry friend. Clyss is wonderful, you will see. Let's drink for now!"

Another man almost screamed.

"For sure! We never have visitors, let's enjoy! What do you drink at your place?"

Typhon accepted with great pleasure. After a few hours, they were all drunk. Arja laughed, Typhon was hugging her lovely. He pointed a finger at the men around and said.

"We are searching for a place to live a peaceful life. Can we join you after we finish our mission?"

The man in front of him came to him, grabbed his finger, and pulled them both into his arms.

"For sure! Come back and live with us!"

Typhon and she fell asleep hugging in front of the fire. Zuline came silently to them and covered them with a blanket before coming back to her tent, she took Arja's pendant between her fingers watching it with affection. She sighed and said with a whisper.

"Jäwell, you destroyed this world..."

After sleeping enough, Arja awakened alone in the warm cover. Typhon was coming back.

"You are awake, look at this. They prepared food for us for the trip. These people are incredible."

She prepared their material rapidly and they were getting ready to leave. Zuline joined them. The men had a lot of issues with being able to say goodbye to each other. Typhon promised many times that he would come back with Arja to live a happy life with them. Zuline couldn't stop to roll her eyes and sighed to see these demonstrations of affection.

She led the path to the den. They walked for a few hours, comparatively, the road was less demanding than before, and walking with Zuline was somehow easy. She was avoiding all the hills and strong winds.

No matter how many caves they met on the way, the moment they saw the right one, they understood. They could not be mistaken...

In front of them appeared an enormous entrance, the main path was elevated and there were empty spaces on the sides, like a sand bridge. Downhill were some skeletons of dead creatures, all more terrifying one after another. The weak light of the desert was showing some pieces of broken and ancient constructions there and there. It was, at the same time, a chaotic and very amazing place. They both were stunned to see so many creatures, constructions, and ships, all of them unknown to them. It was like walking in a different world.

The path was a hundred meters, and when they passed through the gigantic entrance, the way was going down into the earth's bowels. Like snake sand, they could not see the ceiling of the cave above their head. The path was large for at least fifteen persons to move easily.

This grotto was endless, they were going down for a long time but surprisingly the air was fresher and it was more bright inside. Compared to the surface of the desert, even in the darkness of the night that was still very hot, it was very hard to breathe sometimes and the fresh air made them feel light and relaxed.

Arja had goosebumps. It was like she could recognize the place. Something was known from her but she could not say what, she thought that she was feeling this way only because she knew it would be their last mission before leaving together. She was throwing an eye at Zuline, Arja realized that Zuline was very tense, she was hiding her face in her cape. Walking as fast as possible. Then, it was the revelation. They stopped there for a while and Typhon took Arja's hand in his. In front of them appeared a full sky, deep in the desert, there were stars in a magnificent black and blue sky. They were speechless, the sky was painted with some kind of violet and turquoise aurora borealis. They never saw such a thing before. That was the most beautiful sky they ever saw. Zuline stopped there, she turned to them and told them with a bit of sadness in her voice.

"You will find Clyss if you continue this path. I wish you luck, I truly wish you good luck."

Arja was so thankful for being able to see this landscape that she whispered a thank you with a trembling voice. Typhon couldn't even speak, he shook his head. Zuline left very fast after this, she disappeared into the darkness which preceded. They stayed there for a while before continuing. Typhon turned his head in the direction of Arja. The blue lights were reflecting on her face and he was smiling at her, admiring her for a moment. She realized it, smiled, and said with a tender voice.

"Let's finish this mission."

They continued along the path with a heart full of hopes and dreams. Then, the path stopped going down and became flat. They were at the right place. They were searching for a dragon, they were both surprised that they didn't find it immediately once they reached the bottom. The sky was absolutely beautiful and his colors were lighting the cave. They could see the walls, and the sand, but there was nothing. Typhon was relieved.

"Maybe he left? There are some bones there, maybe they are the ones we search for. Hurry."

Arja had a strange sensation. She grabbed his hand and stopped him immediately, then she spoke to him slowly to not terrify him. She tried to stay as calm as possible.

"The wind... comes from the sky... "
