GABRIELA
From the look on Grandma's face I know we hadn't been able to convince her, at least on Kevin's part, because for me she looked with doubts, but the last thing Kevin said was what made her doubt. Furthermore, when we were about to enter the orchard I heard how they were dividing up to interrogate us separately, which isn't going to be of any use to them, at least on my side.
When I entered the door of the house, I heard Kevin curse under his breath as he walked back and forth in the kitchen to get all the drinks that were necessary. "You know how to go with the flow at least, I thought you would be blank having to face everyone." I confessed with a big smile on my face and sitting down in one of the chairs. "At least tell me we convinced them." He asked, "Convinced, convinced, we didn't. They're going to interrogate us separately."
"What?" He asked, raising his voice a little. "Hey, relax, it's to see if they can get something out of us that they won't be able to, and if you feel frustrated, tell them it's something I have to tell, nothing more." I said, shrugging my shoulders. "Obviously I will be frustrated, because that bastard dared to enter this house and threaten you in front of the whole family." He noted, "But it won't happen again."
"He better, because if not I will finish what you didn't let me finish." He assured and I rolled my eyes "You won't, you know I won't let you." I reported "Whatever you say, the issue I don't understand. Why do you think they will believe you will tell them? They know you don't talk about what you feel or what doesn't happen to you so as not to worry them." He answered, "Obviously, but in that time it will give me time to think of something elaborate and I will make them forget about it."
"At some point you have to tell them…" he started to say, but I denied, because it wasn't something I had to do. "No, I don't have to tell them what happened that day and you can be sure I won't tell them." I assured "Not even your fiancé?" He questioned, "He least of all has to know about it." I murmured, looking away. "Why?" He asked, standing in front of me. "Because, Kev."
"Wait… Are you afraid he'll leave you once he finds out?" Maybe deep down I'm afraid he would leave me, something inside me told me so and even though I tried to avoid thinking that, sometimes it's impossible to control that thought, but on the other hand I know what he is capable of doing when he gets angry, and even though that bastard deserves it, I'm not going to allow Alex to get into trouble because of that guy.
"No…" I said "Oh, of course you are." answered this "Okay, partly, but that's not the point." I said "Of course it is. In case he finds out…" he began "Which he won't." I interrupted. "I said in the case." He defended himself "Okay, what happens in that case?" I questioned "He's not going to leave you. He loves you too much to do such a stupid thing." My cousin replied "I know, but I told you in part. A very small part of me is what thinks, and it's a possibility."
"No, it's not, that's your insecurity talking." He pointed out and I denied, "That's not the main reason why I don't want to tell him." I admitted "So…?" He questioned "I know what Alex is like, and if while we were at university he beat up a group of boys who were trying to mess with me… What do you think he'll do when he finds out that that guy…?" I asked. "He will kill him with his own hands." He mumbled and I nodded, "Exactly. I want to keep him from getting into trouble because of me, Kev."
"I understand your point of view, but I disagree. You have to tell someone else." He insisted, "No, I shouldn't have told you in the first place." I pointed out "Of course you had. You had been keeping that in mind for four years, at any moment you were going to explode worse than what you did with Carlota. I would liked you to tell me when you showed up in Holland, because then at least I could have helped you."
With that, he got up and picked up the glasses from the cupboard again to take them to the garden and he was sulking, which he wanted to avoid, I partially understood what he's saying, but I didn't even want Alex to get angry and make a something to that man or worry the others, because it's something they would do even though four years had passed.
"Come on Kev, don't be sulking Kev, I don't want you to take my position as a grump." I said, trying to cheer him up a little and calm him down since it wasn't good for him to be like this in case he's questioned. "No one will take that away from you, dear." He responded with a small smile on his face "If you keep cursing under your breath, believe me, you will take it away from me. I don't want to lose my reputation as a grumpy cousin."
"You're only grumpy when you first wake up, but let me say, grumpy isn't the word." He said "So which one is it?" I asked curiously. "I would say which demon fits best with your morning actions." I grabbed the first thing I saw on the table and threw it at him, making him complain even though a rag didn't do any harm. "Come on, don't tell me it's not true, because we both know it's true."
"I'm not a demon, I just wake up in a bad mood." I noted, "In such a bad mood that if someone crosses you, you kill them with your eyes." He responded, "If that refers to Gabriela having just woken up, then I must admit it's true, dear friend." With those words, we both turned towards the door to see Camila with a big smile and leaning on the door frame. "Camila?" I asked, surprised to see her here. "Is there another person as beautiful as me around?"
At that moment I got up from the chair and ran towards her, giving her a hug. Camila is my best friend since childhood and at a certain point, she's also my aunt, but we decided to ignore that, I only told her sometimes to annoy her, it's funny to see her face in those moments, but as soon as I saw her, I wasn't able to stop the tears from escaping.
"Wow, this isn't the Gabriela I remember. "You didn't give hugs that easily and you didn't cry that easily." She said and I could see both her smile and Kevin's once I separated from her. "Can't I get excited?" I asked even though it's because of the pregnancy. "Of course you can, dear, but I tell you again, that's not something the old Gabriela would have done."
"I've missed you too." I said sincerely, "Obviously, you can't find a friend like me anywhere." responded, "As vain as ever, I thought at least England would change that." Kevin said denying "England doesn't change Camila, the other way around, Camila changes England. But I'm also glad to see you Kevin."
"You could say the same thing, now tell me you will help me carry the glasses to the garden." He asked, "Can't Gabriela do it?" Camila protested to which Kevin rolled his eyes. "I would love to, but I can't." I informed, "Come on Camila, don't make me beg."
"You know I like watching you beg, but okay, I'll help you." With that between the two of them, they took the glasses and we headed towards the garden, but before entering, I remembered Kevin had told them I her in the morning, and I'm sure they were going to ask, so I stopped her. "What's the metter?" asked my best friend. "Before we go in, I want to ask you a favor." I said "Ok, shoot."
"If they ask you something about the morning, tell them we spent it together." I asked, since that was what Kevin told them "Why?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "Please, Camila" I insisted, "Okay, I'll say it in exchange for you giving me an explanation later." She negotiated and I nodded, "Perfect." I said with a big smile on my face and I was going to start walking when this time Camila stops me and stares at my hand. "Don't fuck with me, that's what I'm thinking?"
"What are you taking about?" I asked, a little confused, "You're getting married and you didn't tell me anything? Is the girl who said she wouldn't get married going to do so? Who's the lucky one?" She asked "There are many things that happened in this last year and I promise I'll tell you in great detail later…" I said "You better, but now tell me who the lucky one is. I know him?"
"I'm sure you'll know who it is as soon as you walk in the door." I responded with a smile on my face, "Is he that boy who had a crush on you when we were in high school? Or the one you spent talking to that summer?" My best friend asked, and I denied "None of them, I'm sure you'll be surprised." I said, completely sure it would be a surprise for her to see Alex home.
