Time passes slowly for them as they wait to leave. Piet and Philip have already left for the smallholding in the Land Rover. They have managed to obtain a hunting rifle from the lodge’s gun safe for Pastor Steve, and the whole party is now armed. Pastor Steve has been told what’s expected of him, and how important his role in the whole operation is.

One thing that is of concern to Veronica is that out of the seven of them, only three of them have seen this creature in the flesh, the others have only seen photos, her included, that does not do it justice, and she’s scared of the effect that the actual sighting will have on Peggy, Philip, and the Pastor, will it freeze them, or cause them to run in terror, as her first sighting in Malawi had done to her. She had frozen in place at the horror that had confronted her, and lost the love of her life to the creature before they had managed to vanquish it.
