Kapitel 29: 29: Orphan Training

"[Seija. I have spotted a mention of your mother in the Global Chat 2.0 Group Chat.]"

Seija's eyes snapped to her system screen. 'Let me see!'

[-Global Chat 2.0-]

[-Reincarnator #2: "Guuuyyyysssssss!!! Help meeeee..."-]

[-Reincarnator #7: "...Sup?"-]

[-Reincarnator #2: "My new sensei is evil! EVIL!!! My legs have never been so sore in my whole life..."-]

[-Reincarnator #5: "Oh? What'd he do to you?"-]

[-Reincarnator #2: "What did SHE do to me?! Tell me, have you ever ran through tree-tops... for SEVEN HOURS STRAIGHT?! This is hell! I'm in HELL!!!"-]

[-Reincarnator #8: "What's her name? Is she a named character?"-]

[-Reincarnator #2: "Nah she's not from the original series. Her name is Himiko Hyuga (Yes, those Hyuga, but her personality is way different from them) and she just made my team chase a shadow clone through the trees for seven hours."-]

[-Reincarnator #6: "What purpose did the training serve? There must have been a reason."-]

[-Reincarnator #2: "Oh of course there was a reason. It was to force us to improve our balance and focus while moving through the trees and attacking as a team. We weren't allowed to hit the shadow clone unless we were running along the branches while doing so, and now I don't think I'll ever miss a kunai throw ever again... but STILL! There had to be a better way to teach that lesson, right?!"-]

[-Reincarnator #6: "It sounds like it was rather effective. Learning a skill in only seven hours is excellent progress. She must be a very good teacher. I wish the teachers here in Takigakure were anywhere near as efficient."-]

[-Reincarnator #2 "Ugh..."-]

The conversation ended there.

'They let her go back to work as a Jonin? Why? Was stealing a portion of the Hyuga clan's money and part of Danzo's Jutsu collection not worthy of execution? Or even just imprisonment for that matter?'

"[It is likely that Danzo's collection could not be publicly announced. From what your parents implied it was probably all stolen from other clans and such, after all. And the Hyuga clan is exceptionally wealthy, such that they would barely even notice a few million Ryo missing. Above all of that, Himiko Hyuga is powerful. It would be a waste to simply get rid of her.]"

'I mean... I guess? It's just surprising... I'm happy about it though, to know that she's safe and happily foisting her teachings onto poor, poor number #2! Dad must be fine too, because there's no way she wouldn't go crazy if he was hurt in any way.'

With her heart feeling a few times lighter, Seija prepared for the days ahead.

- - - - -

The first six months of the orphans' training practically flew by.

"Ah! Damn it..." Yahiko screamed as he was once again knocked off the tree he was trying to walk up. Seija sat on the lowest branch above him holding a long stick that she used to knock him down.

"You'll never get the hang of this if you only use so little chakra, you know" She jeered at him.

"Shut up! I don't have as much chakra as monsters like you and Nagato!" Yahiko complained.

"Well Konan's doing just fine, and she has about the same amount of chakra as you. Got any other excuses?"

"Grrrrr..." He growled at her. Big mistake.

"Oh? Was that a growl I heard? You know what that means!" She grinned as she removed one of her gloves.

*Poof*

In a burst of smoke, four Wulgs appeared behind him and swiftly chased him up the tree.

"Noooo! Not this again!"

Seija watched on as the poor boy was forced to adapt to the harsher conditions. Since the first day of the orphans' training Seija had been tasked by Jiraiya with assisting him in their education, especially whenever he was away from home.

Yahiko in particular would often get angry when he got bored of repetitive lessons like tree climbing, so every time he did so and started to lose interest, she would increase the difficulty to force him back on track. Surprisingly, this worked, and he would often thank her for it once he really started to notice the progress he was making. He would just complain about it in the moment, because honestly... who wouldn't?

Meanwhile, Nagato and Konan were on the next step of training: Taijutsu practice.

Both of them were struggling pretty hard with this. They were both fairly averse to hurting people and Konan in particular had done very little strength training due to Yahiko insisting on doing all of the heavy lifting while they were on the run together. As a result of this, they couldn't even train against Seija, because they quickly discovered that trying to punch her felt not dissimilar to striking a brick wall.

Jiraiya was very impressed with her abnormal durability. Her high quality chakra had made her flesh practically superhuman even on its own at this point. As they found out during a sparring match between the two of them...

- - -

*Slam*

Jiraiya's fist stopped dead in its tracks against Seija's gloved hand. She was pushed back - her feet slipped back about a foot - but her arm didn't budge.

Jiraiya whistled as he tested her strength.

"That's one hell of an arm, kid! You sure you're human? Not like your summoned monsters?" Jiraiya joked.

Seija smiled at him and gripped his hand.

"Human as the day I was born." And she swung him over her head with the full force of her body.

Jiraiya wasn't a Jonin for nothing, however. His own muscle strength and flexibility allowed him to keep his body oriented so that he could land on his feet, from which he promptly shot out his left knee straight into her stomach.

She was sent flying a good few paces by that, rolling and tumbling until she managed to grip the ground beneath her. She was durable as hell, fast, and strong. But she was still inexperienced; she didn't know how to land like Jiraiya could. And so as she tried to rise to her feet he slammed down on her back from above, pinning her to the floor.

She could've simply lifted him off with raw power, but she knew that this was meant to be a lesson for the other kids watching, so she let it happen. They wouldn't have the kind of body she did and would not be able to replicate her techniques here. She was already really pushing it when she blocked his punch and threw him.

Jiraiya demonstrated a classic execution to the others by putting a kunai to her neck, and was surprised to find that there was a lot more resistance under the tip of the blade than he was used to seeing on his typical sparring opponents.

He questioned her afterwards in private about it, and she told him to try and lightly stab her arm. She assured him that she would heal from any damage it could do to her, and he tentatively jabbed her arm with the kunai.

*Stab*

It barely went in more than a few millimeters from a casual push of the blade, stopping right when it hit the muscle. The wound closed at a visible rate after the blade was removed.

"What the heck kind of body do you have, Seija? Is this about that family name you can't reveal?"

"Actually, no. That comes from the other side of my family, which has no surname. I might tell you about it in the future, ok? Just not right now. It's sensitive stuff, you know?"

He was perfectly fine with that.

- - -

Back in the present, Nagato and Konan were now sparring against each other. It was pretty clumsy, but neither of them could really hurt the other. Both Yahiko and Konan had their chakra unlocked on the first day of training, which would help to keep them safe against minor damage. This wouldn't really do much against even a kunai or shuriken, but a seven year old kid's punch? Easy.

*Smack*

"Gah!" Nagato fell backwards and Konan huffed as she stood over him.

"Come on, Nagato! You can't just let me keep attacking you! Why don't you fight back?"

Nagato stood back up and scratched his head.

"Um... well it's because I don't wanna hurt y-"

*Smack*

"That's the whole point of this exercise! If you can't hurt anyone then how will you ever defend anything from threats? Come on, just throw one punch. I'll be fine." Konan reassured him after punching him a second time.

"...Alright. Don't say I didn't warn you..." Nagato got into a stance and Konan matched him.

She threw a straight punch at him, which he had failed to block or dodge at all so far. Which she was surprised to see him easily let slip past by tilting his head at the last second, before stepping inside her range, gripping her arm and kneeing her hard in the gut.

She flinched and took a step back.

"Ouch... What the heck was that, Nagato? You never showed off anything like that so far!"

"...It's my eyes. It's like everything is in slow motion. I can see everything. I think I could even copy it exactly if I wanted to... This is why I didn't want to fight you... there's no way I would lose if I just use my eyes..." He admitted.

Seija, who had happily left Yahiko behind to get licked to death by Wulgs, put a hand to her chin and considered the situation.

'Hmm... There's gotta be at least some way to get Nagato to fight someone his level. Jiraiya and I are too strong, but Yahiko and Konan are too weak... I have an idea.'

"Hey, Nagato." She called out to him

"Oh, hey Seija. Is Yahiko almost done?" He innocently asked.

"Eh... probably. Don't worry about it... Now, I just heard that you're having trouble with something, and I may have a solution! It requires skipping ahead in the training plan, so you'll end up ahead of the other two... but Konan can always spar with Yahiko once he's ready. Here." She unfurled her giant scroll and took out a certain Jutsu for him to practice.

He undid the rope tying it shut and read it out loud.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu? Seija, isn't this too advanced? It says it's a B-rank..."

"Nope, read the instructions. It's only dangerous because if you go over your limit when casting it, you can just drop dead from instant chakra exhaustion. The actual technique is easy as hell."

Humming at that, he read it for a minute or two before crossing his hands.

"[Shadow Clone Jutsu]"

*Poof*

"Wow... it really is easy. But why did you show me this, Seija?"

She gestured to the clone he just summoned.

"That can be your new sparring partner. It has all the same abilities as you, it'll just vanish if it gets damaged by any attacks. If that happens you can just make a new one, just be careful not to summon more than your chakra supply can handle. Oh, and Konan?"

Konan looked over from where she was watching Yahiko's tragic fate unfold.

"Yes?"

"You don't need to worry about missing out. As soon as Jiraiya clears you and Yahiko for Ninjutsu training, I'll let you both learn this too. You remember my explanation to that Orochimaru guy back on the dam, right?"

"Of course I do. It was about how the Jutsu can be used to improve learning speed, right?" She recalled.

"Exactly. You'll all need to learn that before your Ninjutsu training begins for maximum efficiency!" She gave her a Might Guy-brand thumbs-up pose and took a glance over at the clearing where Nagato just got punched in the face by his own clone.

'Yeah! This is going well. I need to remember to check everyone's chakra affinities at some point too. Only once they too can suffer the crushing boredom of casting that fucking Slow-Burn Jutsu though. I still haven't managed to optimise that piece of shit lower than 40 seals...'

It was genuinely impressive how badly designed that Jutsu was. It's almost like it was intentional...

'Oh.' She realised.

It probably was intentional. This whole time she thought it was garbage and kept going over those 83 seals her chakra control and hand-seal weaving speed were improving faster and faster each time she did it... she really felt like she should've realised that sooner.

Hiding her embarrassment from the others behind her ever-so-convenient mask, she noticed the sun was starting to go down and released Yahiko from his saliva-based torture.

'Time to head back. Jiraiya should have returned from the nearby town with whatever it was he implied we needed, by now. I wonder what he bought?'

- - -

"Jiraiya, there is not a force in this universe that could ever make me wear that thing." Seija flatly refused to even touch the bright-green frog suit on the floor in front of her.

"But it's importaaaaant~" He whined at her. Both himself and the other three orphans were already wearing one each.

"I refuse! It's so lame! I don't even have a Toad-summoning contract!"

"But we need it for my explanation of the 'hop-in' plates!" He insisted.

He picked the suit up off the floor and approached her with malicious intent.

[Body Flicker]

She shot out of the door at full speed...

*Snap*

And ran right into a Fuinjutsu Seal that locked her legs together.

'SHIT!'

"I'm, uh... allergic to green suits?" She tried.

It did not save her.

Thus, Seija could not escape wearing the frog suit. A small mercy it was that the damn thing would only ever be brought out on special occasions. And she couldn't help but admit that it helped bring their group closer together to wear ridiculous matching frog suits when those days rolled around...
