Chapter 258: Doflamingo's game
A few minutes earlier.
The city of Dressrosa was engulfed in one massive conflict.
Usopp was able to knock out Sugar, freeing everyone who had been transformed into toys.
Former King Rikku led several of the tournament participants and joined his granddaughter and son-in-law in their assault against the castle, hoping to find Doflamingo and eliminate him.
Luffy and Law are already there, fighting against the Shichibukai and his remaining family members
Doflamingo started to laugh.
"You think you can win?."
He looked at the former king.
"King Rikku, do you still remember how you felt that night ten years ago?"
"How can I not?, I still have nightmares about that day…you demon!." Rikku spat.
"Well… that's nothing compared to what I'm about to do now." Doflamingo had a cruel smile on his face. One that made the old King very nervous.
"W-What are you plotting now?!. Don't harm my people anymore. They have suffered enough!"
"Grandfather…" Rebecca felt tears forming in her eyes.
"Pica, take these intruders out of my castle!" Demanded Doflamingo.
The ground and walls came to life and changed shapes, pushing them outside the castle.
They landed and started at the high wall of the castle.
"Now what? do we climb up?" Asked Luffy.
"No... as long as Pica is in control of the castle, well never get to where Doflamingo is…" Explained Law.
Long white string shoot out into the air above the castle.
"It has started!" Exclaimed Law.
"Is the bird cage!. That madman is going to kill everyone on this island before the truth about what he has done leaks out."
It then expanded out, covering the entire city in a dome-shaped prison made of white strings.
And that was just the beginning.
"Citizens of Dressrosa…and unwanted guests."
The voice of Doflamingo came out of several speakers and screens that were scattered all over the city.
"I could have ruled over you all using terror from the beginning. Now that you know the truth, you probably want to kill me. That's why I have prepared a little game for you all. "
"The game is simple. I am currently at the top of the castle, I won't run or hide. If you can get to me and kill me, the game ends and this cage will disappear "
"But there is another way to end the game, if you kill all of the people I'm about to name, not only will the game end but you will also be generously rewarded by me."
"Kill or be killed, this is my game. You are either hunters or prey!."
"No one will be able to escape my birdcage. You can't leave and you can't call the outside. No one will come to save you! You have no choice but to play my game."
And soon, the people inside the cage started to realize that being trapped was not their biggest issue.
Invisible strings were hanging from the cage and covering the entire city. Anyone who touched one of these strings became controlled by Doflamingo and started to attack anyone around them no matter who they were. Friends, family, allies…this was the true danger of the birdcage.
The citizens were also quick to realize something else. This was very similar to what happened to their beloved and kind King, ten years back.
"It was Doflamingo all along!"
"That bastard and his family"
"They have been deceiving us for a decade, making us hate the royal family."
"Oh no…what have we done?"
But it was too late for regrets now.
The strings of the cage formed a giant image of Doflaingo that could be seen by everyone.
"You can try to kill me, or join me by punishing those who dared to oppose me."
The image changes to show the faces of several people. One or more stars were at the bottom of their portraits.
"I'll pay one hundred thousand beli for each star they have"
The faces of the royal family along with the Strawhat crew members among others were shown to everyone. Their stars range from one to three.
"The principal offenders of each organization are all their stars."
Luffy, Law, and King Rikku we're given three stars.
"However, the second one that pissed me the most today will get a special reward. "
The picture of Usopp was shown with five stars at the bottom.
"Five hundred thousand for this one!" Shouted Doflamingo.
He had wanted to put Vivi up there too, but she belonged to the Marines, unfortunately.
"You have no time to waste, let the game begin!"
The Strawhats found themselves surrounded by attackers and were forced to make a run for it, but at least were able to get most of the members together before their next attack on the castle.
On the roof of the castle. Doflamingo was having a reunion with the remaining members of his family.
They had lost Diamante and Giolla. Viola had deserted their side and joined the Strawhats. And Sugar had disappeared after being knocked out by Usopp.
"I'm very disappointed Trevol. You were supposed to protect Sugar." Doflamingo clenched his teeth.
"Haven't we lost enough already?!"
They had not had time to mourn the loss of their family yet and now they have to fight a war.
"I'm sorry Doffy…I don't understand how it happened. She was there and the next moment…she wasn't. I have no excuse." Trevol sighed.
"Who could have taken her?, the Strawhats?" asked Baby. 5.
"Who else?!" shouted Lao G. The old man looked enraged.
"I will kill them all! Leave them to me!" the giant Pica exclaimed in a high-pitched voice.
Doflamingo was about to say something when the ground started to shake violently
