CHAPTER 106

288 AC

The Ironborns began to attack, holding the shield in one hand and the ladder in the other. Stark soldiers on the wall were pelting them with arrows. We waited in the forest for about a kilometer away, and I watched the battle using Poe. Tawney was using about a thousand men to make it look like he was making a real attack.

On the other hand, Jory began to line up all the soldiers on the walls at the north gate, as we agreed, to look as if he had fallen into Tawney's trap. Seeing this, Tawney also led the remaining thousand of his men to attack, but the soldiers who could go up the stairs against the wall under the rain of arrows were having a tough fight since almost all the Stark soldiers were at the north gate, they had a hard time gaining a foothold.

Darrin Tawney had lost about 100 soldiers since the start of the attack but was slowly moving his troops toward the west gate. To someone who does not know his plan, this will seem normal. But Darrin didn't know that an accidental arrow had already killed Brodin and another person had taken his place in command. Who would have thought that if Stark soldiers pushed someone unprotected in front of the wall in the turmoil of battle, the enemy archers would open fire on that person?

After the battle, we should punish those careless Stark soldiers who pushed their commanding officer to the line of fire. Because Brodin thought he was safe, he placed almost all his loyal soldiers around the gate; he thought it would be easier to open it.

At the side of the west gate, another change Ironborn didn't know was happening. Inside the walls, all the carriages, barrels, and all kinds of debris in the town were getting carried to both sides of the gate and created a corridor for several meters.

Soldiers had begun to be deployed on both sides and at the end of this corridor, fewer soldiers were on the north side because the soldiers who were supposed to fill there were still defending the northern walls. As the number of enemies in the north decreased, the number of soldiers in the barricaded area increased.

We were almost ready with the enemy, so we gave Brodin's ready signal. Darrin had almost brought half of his soldiers to the west gate, and just then came the signal from among the Ironborns ordering Brodin to open the gate. Thanks to the raven messages, we knew clearly what the signals were.

My soldiers and I were slowly and quietly approaching the forest's edge. I casted all of the strength, speed, stamina, oakshield, and jelmio sumby (wind shield) buffs for Sith, Berus, Lyka, Kegan, Harlik, and myself. I didn't use jelmio sumby (wind shield) on Imu because it will be underground, all these buffs took my 160 mana, and I left 50 mana for an emergency.

When Harlik and Kegan felt the power added by the buffs and the oakshield forming under their armor, it was clear that they were both stunned. Looking into the neck of his chainmail, Kegan said:

"My Lord, I feel light as a feather. It feels as if I started running, I could fly, and this magic armor looks like tree bark but is as hard as iron."

Harlik interrupted him and said,

"And I feel like I can break a tree in half with one strike."

It was normal for them to feel this way. Thanks to the buffs, their naturally strong bodies had become even stronger, and Kegan had 9 str 11.9 spd, and Harlik had 11.5 str 9 spd. They had turned into elite soldiers. I said:

"Do you feel anything like a refreshing wind circling you?"

They both nodded their heads in agreement.

"As long as this feeling surrounds you, you don't need to run from projectiles smaller than a javelin. It will deflect anything thrown at you."

Kegan held a short sword in one hand and a shield in the other. Harlik, on the other hand, thanks to his armor, was like a wall made of iron, almost 2 meters tall. His armor wasn't made of quality steel like mine, and since it wasn't custom-made for him, it was bent in a few places as it was adjusted to fit Harlik, but it was in good working order.

He held a large war hammer in one hand and a giant tower shield in the other hand. All of their things cost me a fortune because it was a rush order. Mikken and his apprentices had made them in 1 week by working day and night.

With the opening of the west gate, all of the Ironborns began to flock in through the gate. As no one was stopping them, about 500 soldiers had entered the door in a matter of minutes, and the corridor was more than half full.

Some soldiers, beginning to understand what was happening, were trying to climb over the barricades, and some were shouting for them to retreat, but the enraged soldiers continued to flock inside in a trance as if all of them were deafened by their own battle lust. The soldiers who tried to climb the barricades were greeted by spears attacking one after another.

A few more minutes passed, and the barricade was filled to the brim with soldiers, and Ironborns were still pouring in, walking over the dead. Nearly 200 Ironborns had died, but the number inside the barricade was increasing rather than decreasing, and at some small points, they were even able to break through the barricade and get out. Seeing this, Jory took the horn from his waist and blew it with all his might, so the second phase of their plan began.

The soldiers surrounding the barricade started to throw smoke bombs inside one by one, and fog of 4-5 meters in diameter began to cover the area. This was exactly what pushed the Ironborns, who were starting to organize, back into a panic while the archers stationed on the walls above the gate were raining death into the barricade.
