Rescue

_________

POV - Peter Parker

The jet landed using its thrusters. We were in the underground X-Men facility.

The plane or Blackwing as it was called by the people here, landed gracefully. The latch opened and the retractable staircase extended. A man with huge white wings came out of the plane with a worried look.

"Is Young Theo alright, Warren?"

"Verhant treated his wounds before heading towards the team with Kurt but he's….. he's still malnourished and who knows what his mental state is like. He's still a long way from-"

"Can I see him?" I interrupted him.

Archangel turned to me and said, "You must be Peter. I've heard a lot about you from the others, Wolverine even said you were strong! Strong you may be but I suggest you wait-"

"Warren, he can handle it." This time it was the professor.

Warren looked conflicted but ultimately decided to trust the professor.

"Well then follow me."

I anxiously walked alongside Dr. Hank as the professor and Archangel discussed the encounter with Magneto.

At the entrance on the side, there he was laying on the stretcher. He was strapped in so that he wouldn't fall.

His pure silvery white hair was now dirty with mud and blood stains. The same with his face. His skin was dry and white. He looked like he had lost twenty pounds. This was not the same boy I knew.

"He was in much worse condition when we found him. Verhant removed all the metal from his body and healed all the major injuries. It was bad. Even for magneto!"

My fist tightened at the mention of Magneto and my thoughts went really dark,

'Magneto, you'll pay for this tenfold!'

"Verhant hooked him to an IV drip. He's probably dehydrated so he needs some liquid before he starts eating solid food again. For the time being we can safely conclude that he's alright." Warren informed us.

"Charles….." Dr. Hank said, barely containing his fury inside.

"I know, I'll do what's necessary this time. No more 'peachy pacifism'. No more gloves." Charles Xavier said with a sad look.

I didn't know what they were planning but if I saw Magneto now, I might go crazy and kill him.

"In the meantime, we'll contact the young man's parents-" I interrupted the professor.

"That would be a giant mistake, Professor. They'll want answers for their son's disappearance."

"And we'll give them the truth, they deserve as much-"

"You'll cause a race war, that's what you'll do!" I couldn't help but control my frustration.

My shout startled the three of them, thankfully Theo was still asleep.

"I don't understand, Peter? Explain." Dr. Hank said this time.

"The entire country is looking for an enemy. They think that the country Sabiztan is responsible for that attack. The entire US army is mobilizing as we speak. If you say to his parents that a rogue mutant kidnapped their son, it'll only invite more questions and maybe you'll have to give answers they might not like. His parents are some of the most powerful people in the states and they might do something rash. Like thinking all mutants need to be eradicated or something stupid like that."

They all took in what I said.

"It's good that we saved him but that does not mean we get to be careless now. Like I said the entire nation has their pitchforks out! We wait for a few more days until Theo's healed up and I'll explain everything to him. We'll make a convincing story and he'll go back to his home. They'll be grateful and that'll be the end of that." I finished.

"I…see, I didn't think about that possibility." The professor admitted. It was the mark of a good man, to openly accept his mistakes and attempt to learn from them.

"That's alright Professor. Without you or your team I don't think Theo would even be alive right now."

It was only fair that I returned the gesture.

They took Theodore to the observation room, where a medic was looking over him.

We were in the professor's office. It was me, Dr. Hank, Warren and the professor himself.

"All's well that ends well, as they say." Dr. Hank said smiling. He continued,

"Magneto and his little brotherhood are caught and bagged. We'll be transporting them back to the authorities, so humanity can thank us for saving them."

"They won't." Warren added,

"Of course they won't Warren, my boy. They've always been selfish like that. Still, I'm glad everything ended well!"

"I'm afraid it's not all good news." The professor said grimly,

"What..why? What happened?" The Doctor asked him.

"I locked away Magnus's powers and read his mind just now…..he's collaborating with someone. A very powerful Psychic…one that far surpasses my abilities. He was the one who freed Magneto, the one responsible for all this."

"My god, he's more powerful than you!" Dr. Mccoy couldn't believe it.

"I have good reason to believe so. He has telepathic abilities as well as telekinesis. He's also very well informed. He was the one who directed Magnus to your basketball game."

"So this 'guy', he knew about Theodore's abilities?" I asked.

"He was playing with Magnus. He clearly knew more than he let on but didn't give Magnus any more information. From Magnus' memories, I can verify this."

"What? Playing? Magneto almost wiped-out humanity and this mysterious third party was what? Enjoying from the stands?" It struck a nerve with me.

All of this suffering, all the people I lost…why, for what reason? Were we just entertainment to that bastard!

"I do not know Peter, but I promise I will get to the end of all this." The professor vowed to me. It felt good to know that I had the X-Men by my side. At least I wasn't in this all alone like I was before.

My thoughts turned to Obadaiah Stane. The man who was on the run right now.

Once I catch up to him…I'll take my sweet time getting the truth from him.

POV - Magneto

He was in the white place again.

"Charles….are you there?" He called out but no one answered.

He heard a loud sound behind him, he snapped his head back but he saw nothing, just pure whiteness.

"You took my powers! That's right, you took the one thing that mattered to me the most."

He tried using powers but he couldn't feel anything, he remembered that Charles had taken his powers away.

"Reveal yourself!" He yelled, his throat didn't hurt and his voice was perfectly normal. He had his natural vocal chords.

"e…n...D…" he felt a chill run down his spine as the wind started whispering.

"Who are you?" he scrambled, looking side to side, anticipating its next move.

"s….t....o….r...….y...…..m...u....s…..t...e...….n…..D

The sheer coldness stopped him dead in his tracks. Suddenly, he saw something dark heading towards him at impossible speeds in the far endless horizon. He couldn't make out what it was, his eyes weren't as good as they used to be. It looked like small ants heading his way.

The vast endless white was slowly but surely turning black.

"God." The fear he had when he was growing up as a kid came back, the same primal aversion to darkness he had as a child. It came when it got dark and his mother had to tell him bedtime stories, so that he could sleep.

He felt naked and powerless to the overwhelming force that was heading towards him.

The closer it got, the faster it got. In a few seconds the realization kicked in,

'It's not a single creature….it's darkness!'

Darkness that consumed the light around him, he spun his head and his suspicions turned out to be true. The entire white space was being consumed from all directions. It came rushing towards him like a riptide destroying everything in its path.

'No point in fighting it then, very well I shall accept my fate with dignity.'

He closed his eyes and waited for the darkness to consume him.

.

.

.

.

.

Nothing happened.

It should have consumed him by now but he didn't feel any different.

He opened his eyes but he couldn't see anything anymore. Indeed the darkness had consumed everything but him.

He could feel his hand but he couldn't see it, he couldn't see anything anymore. He could move but it was like walking in water. Heavy and slow.

"Who? Who are you?" he asked again but this time he knew that the entity responsible for all of this would give him a reply.

It was a cold feminine voice that responded to his confused shouts.

"They call me many things…some call me mother, others call me fable but you know me best by the name Creator."

He didn't say anything.

He couldn't say anything.

"Creator?....What do you mean Creator?" He reverted back to the boy he was before they ripped him away from his mothers arms. Before he became the monster he was today.

"I'm not like the ones who you've read before… like the ones you've seen in your movie theaters or comic books or maybe even your guilty pleasure….fanfiction."

"What?" He couldn't even form a sentence, the best he could do was phrases or make noises. He knew that this creature wasn't strictly speaking to him anymore.

"This…..story...….written by a half baked amateur.....Badass Peter Parker."

"Pete…pete…pete….peter park-"

"Hush child, go to sleep." Her finger touched his lips, it felt soft, softer than any person had a right to be.

Almost like her finger was flayed and didn't have any skin.

He lost his consciousness and fell to the ground, if you could call it that.

She looked at Magneto's body with a hint of sadness. She turns towards you, the reader.
