I ran as hard as I could following Gawain’s trail, but he had managed to vanish out of sight. I used my sense of smell to keep track of him and the scent led me forward. If that really was a gun in his hand, he was about to do something very stupid. I had a feeling that the gun was loaded with silver bullets. Silver was the bane of wolves. It could leave scars, maim and even paralyze us, but ultimately it was used to kill. And too many of my people had already died by silver.

He was going to try and kill Baltazar with the gun and as much as I was tempted to let him do it, it was not the true way of a wolf. It was not our way. I abhorred guns and I had banned them from the village.

Where the hell did Gawain find one? Goddess, he was an idiot! I could smell Emily’s scent close by as well and knew that I was getting close.
