I would never say this but he had a beautiful smile and the way the gentle evening breeze was playing with his hair, which looked soft and silky for an African. I was thankful that no one but me could hear my thoughts because I knew how offensive it would sound to some people.
I wanted to feel his hair which had two colours: black at the root and golden brown at the tip which was all curly and kinky.
"Come on, please?" Nick's pleading for me out of my thoughts.
"Alright, I'll come." I said. If this friend of his was going there then so was I. Not like I was brave enough to talk to him but it didn't seem like such a bad idea to wanna admire him from far.
"So how long is she staying?" Uche asked as soon as we started to walk away from the house.
"I'm not sure, i think a year?" His reply was more of a question as he looked at me.
"A year." I helped.
"Is she gonna be cool with been the only girl at Kim's basement?" I heard Uche try to whisper to Nick.
"Yeah, she is." Nick replied in a whisper which was also loud enough for me to hear, it's almost like they didn't know their voices were a little thicker like men.
I tried to muffle my laughter and it came out as a loud chuckle. They both stopped and looked at me which made me throw my head to the other direction, because I didn't know how I was going to explain my laughter.
We got there after a short walk. Nick knocked on the door and a woman who looked like she was in her early forties opened the door.
"Hi ma'am." Both Nick and Uche greeted uniformly while I just stood there. She smiled at them, opening the door more, so we could pass through.
I followed them both as they went into the house and downstairs into the basement. They were other boys there waiting. They were three of them, two were already gaming while the other one just laid lazily on one of the two mini couches present, busy on his phone. The one on his phone looked up and noticed us.
"Hey man, you're late." The other two turned to us when he said that.
"Something happened." Nick said and went to sit where one of the gaming boys were sitting and he was handed a console. "Get ready to perish." Nick said and I rolled my eyes. Looking around for where to sit, Uche came up behind me.
"You can stay here." He pointed to the beanbag which was just beside the couch occupied by Nick and the other boy. I smiled and went over there.
"Who's she?" The one who just left the console for Nick asked.
"Your girlfriend?" The boy about to game against Nick asked smirking at Uche.
"No." Uche looked at me before shaking his head."Nick's sister." He Sat on the arm of the chair.
"Nick has a sister?" The one sitting beside Nick asked again.
"She my cousin, can we concentrate on the game, it's finished loading."Nick said.
"Chill, just asking."
"Don't." Nick said sounding serious.
"You didn't tell us your mum was gonna be around?" Uche asked.
"She wasn't but her plans was cancelled. makes no difference she's here, so don't worry, she won't disturb us." The guy on his phone said, so this was his basement. He was Kim.
Uche took out his phone and started using it and I just sat there. I had lots of things to keep me busy on my phone too, but I just wanted to stare at him.
After a quick debate between myself and my brain, I tried to start a conversation with Uche, since he wasn't gaming. That was it!
"Hey, you're not playing too?" I asked and all three of the boys who weren't playing including Uche looked at me.
"Me?" Uche asked and I was happy he did.I nodded. "No I'm not." The other boys were now back to their phones.
"Why?" I asked just when he too, was about to look back at his phone.
"It was mine and his turn yesterday." He pointed to the one sitting next to him." Today's Nick turn."
"Oh." I smiled, he didn't. It felt so awkward. His attention went back to his phone when he noticed I didn't have anymore questions.
"In your face! In your fucking face!" Nick celebrated. Uche smiled.
"I put my bet on him." Uche announced.
"As always, we know." Kim sat up. He sounded disappointed."Alright guys, where's your money?" Kim stretched out his hands and all the other boys apart from Kim himself, Uche Nick and his gaming opponent dropped some money in Kim's palm.
Kim counted it while they all watched.
"Here's mine." Kim took out some cash from one of his back pocket. "I can't believe you lost, Mike." He said counting in his own added money.
"Why can't I bet on myself again?" Nick asked rhetorically.
"Shut up." Kim said laughing.
"I'm that Good." Nick boasted.
"You lost the last time." Kim said giving all the money to Uche, sighing.
"I was distracted." Nick argued.
"Yeah, fool yourself." Uche said coughing and I laughed.
"How dare you?!" Nick said dramatically and everybody laughed. "but seriously guys, last time was a distraction."
"Yeah we believe you." One of the boys said, I wasn't sure who, but everyone laughed again. Everyone started getting ready to leave.
"Alright guys." Kim said before shutting the door to his house when we left. The other guys went in one direction while Nick, Uche and I went in another.
"Here's half of it." Uche said handing Nick some money after we turned a corner. Nick didn't count, he just stuffed it in his pocket, I guess he trusted him.
"Guys let's hurry up it's late." Nick said increasing his pace.
"Chill, it's just 6:30." Uche said looking at his watch.
"And it's this dark?"
