Ellis POV

My heart pounded in my ears as my boots kept the beat on the hardwood. I was just trying to keep up, in case something bad happened. Not to Luke but to Raul. I didn’t know everything that happened between the two, but for someone as scary as Raul to run like that, it must mean he’d found someone even more frightening than him.

It was almost like the door gag in an old-fashioned farce. No matter how many times Raul dodged and turned, working through the labyrinth of halls, we were still Johnny on the spot. Luke at least seemed to run toward him a couple of times.

He was the head of security and knew every place there was to hide. Which was how he made sure everyone was safe who needed to be.
