It was a door slam heard around the world, or at least around the house. Reaching my office loud enough to make me jump in my office chair a little, it prompted me to go downstairs.

“Hey, baby,” she said, seeing Hope in my arms.

Our little bundle giggled and reached for her mommy, Livy taking Hope to her heart, despite the slight dismay in her eyes.

Before I could ask what was wrong, she was moving away to look for the boys, they wouldn’t be hard to find as they were playing in the yard, and not in a quiet way.

I followed at a distance, giving her space, but still wanting to keep an eye on things. It was just something I did and I couldn’t control it anymore than I could control breathing.

Out in the fresh air where the sky was clear, the boys, including Carl, were raking up the leaves before jumping into them.
