Chapter 273: My New Normal

The rooster crowed loudly in my head, my earbuds more than doing the job. It was even earlier than before, my tired body only barely rising like bones from the crypt.
Down in the kitchen, the brewed coffee was already at a drip, filling the German-crafted steel pot below.
It looked like something a visiting alien society might have left behind as a parting gift. Their galactic enemies no doubt regarded such advanced tech with envious eyes.
The caffeine was quick, hitting my still-slumbering brain like Queen Mab. There were few things better than pure caffeine when you needed a direct kick in the ass.
With my tracksuit on and Pumas laced tight, I was ready for the long run, and spoiling for a fight.
“Oh, you’re up,” Luke said, still in his jammies.
“Yeah,” I said. “Coffee?”
Downing the dark and wondrous drink, Luke changed quickly and we dashed past the gates, the guard setting them to open when we were still on the way.
