Olivia POV
We got through breakfast without another word, either good or bad. I was happy, Ken called it right.
Happy we were all there and alive, even if I had lost something I might never get back.
The kids were sad to see us go, the night at home after the meeting with Jesse was the last there was going to be for a while. We just wanted to make sure everything was set up before we left.
“Why do you have to go?” Ken asked again.
“For the trial, it’s important,” I said.
“Another one?”
“Yes, honey, but hopefully the last.”
Ellis seemed confident that all the major issues had been addressed and the threat had passed, at least the worst of it. Carl would testify and that would be that. Bethany would get convicted and sentenced to basically infinity in prison and we could move on with our lives.
I wasn’t so sure. Not with people like the King Slayer still out there, and working with the rest of the Diaz family.
