Davy didn't worry about it for long because he began to get information from her again; who knew why she appeared terrified of him? He'd find it later, but for the time being, he'd focus on something else.
"Do you know some recent news? Like, what is currently happening in the Chaos Realm?" Davy inquired subtly, maintaining a neutral tone as if he was only asking.
Lien stopped looking around and focused her gaze on the ground, nodding in response to Davy's question. She gave the impression that she expected Davy to ask some questions and even appeared to be prepared for it. This girl was truly confusing him.
Lien responded quickly, despite her obvious nervousness. "Yo-Your Highness, T-The Chaos Realm is relatively peaceful these days, and... no major event occurred that could threaten the realm's stability, and... since the war thousands of years ago, the Chaos Universe as a whole had--had entered its prosperity, and even cemented its status as the uppermost Universe in existence."
Davy paid close attention to everything Lien said. And he occasionally nodded, despite the fact that he had a strange feeling about something. Lien's response appeared to be memorized or prepared in advance. Of course, the responses of the NPCs should be consistent with the script and their roles, right? Yet her responses were so unnatural. Was her program not perfected yet?
Despite his confusion, he decided to pay close attention first in case he missed something."Also, the Supreme Rulers decided to clo-close the Chaos Realm for a while, and no one from outside or inside without per--permission could enter or leave, so His Highness can't... can't visit the other realms for the time being," Lien continued, her tone and voice shaking occasionally.
Davy had grown accustomed to it and had begun to disregard it. Nonetheless, this NPC was like the students who reported in class without confidence. Her speech may have already ended, as she did not speak and fell silent again.
Davy thought about it for a bit and didn't ask anything for a while, So, the Chaos Realm was now closed to the outside world? This had no effect on his mission because the system specifically informed him that his mission would only take place in this realm, and he immediately ignored it.
Even so, the information was useful. He now had a general idea of the game's setting. Perhaps it was because it was only an adult game that the background didn't appear to be heavy. The Chaos Universe as a whole was peaceful, and the Supreme Rulers were idle, which made it easier for him to complete his mission.
"Then... where are the other two Supreme?" he asked.
Lien responded without hesitation, as she had done previously. Davy was now powerless to pursue anything suspicious about this NPC. All he could reason was that... It was her role, and Davy shouldn't mind too much.
Her mouth opened to respond, and the anxious and soft voice rang again. "His Majesty Draven would return to the realm in a few days and would be staying in the Chaos palace for a while. As-- As for His Majesty Lyle... His Majesty Fallan had not yet contacted him, and I-I'm not sure when he would come back and visit Your Highness. B-But I'm sure, once His Majesty Lyle gets the news, His Majesty Lyle would immediately return."
Davy nodded. So, Draven would return in a few days, while Lyle had not yet been contacted by Fallan, but Lien said he would rush back once he received the news. Didn't that imply Davy would soon meet all three of them?
Wait... This was extremely strange. There was no way it could have been a coincidence. Perhaps it was for the plot? Davy believed he had it right. After all, it was a game, and the plot would determine his mission.
"What news?" Davy inquired, puzzled.
Lien responded quickly this time. "Of course, that His Highness woke up,"
"Wake up?" Davy clarified, wanting to know why his waking up was such a big deal. Was that a crucial part of his character?
However, Lien appeared surprised by his question this time, and a second later, she looked so surprised and exaggeratedly put her hand in her mouth as if she said something really wrong that shouldn't be said.
She again began to look like a lost lamb, and her expression gives off the impression that she did something taboo. Davy's brows furrowed, and his mind raced.
What was the deal with this girl again?
Davy kept a close eye on Lien as she opened her mouth to speak but would quickly shut it again out of nervousness. Her pale skin betrayed her anxiety. What exactly was going on here? Davy expected that talking with Lien would clear up his doubts, but it only added to them.
"What do you mean, it was because I woke up?" he asked again, knowing the girl had no intention of answering. Davy reflected on how difficult it was to figure out who he was in the game. He was now even more curious and eager to learn what his role was.
The timid girl slowly lifted her head, and she nervously met Davy's gaze. "Hi-His Highness often sleeps for a longer period of time and... now Y-Your Highness w-woke up," Lien bit her lips as she spoke with a newfound determination.
He raised an eyebrow, was that it? Davy had finally grasped the concept. This character of his loved to sleep and could do so for extended periods of time. Oh, he was reminded that Fallan was also surprised when he saw him in the middle of the night and asked if he had just woken up. Still, how long could he sleep?
He looked at Lien with suspicious eyes, as if every minute she would rush out and cry. Davy had reservations, but... He still had some conscience after seeing the girl forced herself to be brave. Even though Lien was only an NPC, her expression was genuine and made you want to protect and pity her.
Anyway, since Lien was obviously uncomfortable with the subject of his sleeping habits, Davy decided to pause and redirect his attention to something else. In the first place, he only desired some background information and not those that he believes are unnecessary to his overall mission. Whatever Davy thought of it, this was simply the creators' antics to get the protagonist to return to the player.
"I want to ask you something... since you're my personal servant, do you know me that well?" Davy quickly changed the subject, now shifting to his identity. He couldn't role-play that well if he didn't even know what his role was in the first place.
Davy could tell Lien was no longer in the hot seat after hearing this question, even though she still appeared constipated. Her pale skin gradually recovered. Like Davy's previous questions, Lien appeared to be ready for Davy to ask this one.
This NPC was strange, her bad acting was so obvious. He'd never understand the game's creator's mind. Wasn't this a bit much? Such an NPC was practically hoping for a player to bully her.
"I... I won't dare, Your Highness." Lien seemed sincere as if what she said was the only logical answer and anything else would be blasphemy. "His Highness... is the most precious existence in the entire universe, and I'm not worthy to be acquainted with Your Highness, so please forgive me... if I can't answer... if His Highness would ask anything related to Your Highness," she continued.
Davy sat in a daze, mouth agape, staring unblinkingly at the nervous girl, wondering if what he had just heard was true. What the fuck? He was the most precious existence in the universe? Davy had been concerned about the creator's mental state from the start. No, seriously, how did he come up with this? First, it was the damned defective system, then some extreme mission, and now his character was the most precious existence in the universe? With this cringe-worthy title, his head ached.
He assumed that the creator had previously been a chuuni and was now venting his social death to the players. This role... Davy didn't know how to portray it. For fucks sake, his sanity was dwindling with each passing day.
As his eyelids twitched and he leaned powerlessly on the headboard, a helpless expression appeared on his face.
Davy wasn't in the mood to ask any questions... as it would be a waste of time because Lien stated she couldn't answer questions about Davy's character. So why not stop? In the worst-case scenario, Davy could still summon the system. He was willing to tolerate the system's attitude in exchange for his freedom.
He dismissed the servant with a wave of his hand, his actions natural as if he had done it many times before. He wasn't aware of it, and he didn't bother looking at Lien. "I'll change so..." he was supposed to say so Lien could go back and was immediately reminded that he didn't know how to get to the dining room, let alone how to use the fucking elevator. Instead, he said, "...you can wait for me here."
Davy heard Lien acknowledge his orders. He also rose slowly from his bed. He only realized now that he was wearing a different nightgown than he was wearing last night. His mind froze. Did... Fallan changed his clothes? Fuck... But, come to think of it, why did he suddenly pass out last night?
This lingered in his mind until Davy showered and prepared himself.
