Kapitel 10: Chapter -10 The gambling begins...
The next day morning Eva got up early, to get back her coat from the mortuary.
She went there and found her coat beneath the coat there was a chain and a pendant. She thought maybe it belonged to Era so she picked it up .. now she silently closed the door and left the key with the lock so that the watchman can see it and return the key to the equipment room.
She came back and relaxed for a bit she saw the pendant, it was a beautiful necklace with a blue diamond in it, she it might be something special for her so she decided to give her like surprise after the surgery.
Now she was ready to go to the hospital, when she was about to wear the coat Lara called her from the back.
" hey, Eva where have you been? wait for me"
Eva thought' I think it's not a good thing to tell her about Era as she could be frightened....and also call me possessed... oh no way I shouldn't do that.' she said casually
" hi Lara, I was busy to hell yesterday... you know how it is to work with Mr. Freak... oh ..he is like a robot.. ordering around the mini robot. I was tired so so tired."
Lara was convinced by the answer
"Hey, it must be hard for you...I heard that you are going to scrub in your first surgery... congratulations..it's very rare to attend the surgery in just a week...I think David sir is pleased with you." he said.
Eva thought 'ya ..it's not like pleased with me it's like killing me..' and said,
" yes maybe...anyways thank you".
They walked into the hospital, and there was an emergency patient who was just brought in, he was screaming with pain, the nurse there was calling the Doctor in charge but he was not picking up. When she saw Lara and Eva, she called for help.
Lara rushed there but Eva turned around before seeing blood. She was thinking about what to do and then wore her coat ... here Era entered... she saw there was mess everywhere and Lara was calling her for help.
She ran there to attend to the patient. He fainted with pain, Era rushed to check on him, and she checked his pulse, eyes, and all the other primary checkups .. that has to be done. She also checked for head injuries, and he had one, she immediately ordered the nurse to call the neurology department and book him a neurologist.. she was very quick and responsible, and everybody there was surprised to see him...
The neurology department sent someone to take care, and that patient was taken to the neuro department.
The surgeon available there was Ben, he rushed over to the ER, and the patient was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage, he was rushed to the operation theatre. Ben said,
"he was lucky to be brought in time or he could have lost his life".
Everybody there told him that it was Eva who help him and everybody start clapping hands for her. But it was Era, and Eva was never involved in any of the activities in the ER before, which make everyone surprised.
Era escaped from there calmly. She went directly to David's office.
Ben was in a hurry to go for the surgery. But he search for Eva, to appreciate but couldn't find her. So he left. David was getting ready to go for the surgery, Era joined him.
He asked her to get changed into scrubs, but the problem is if she get changed into scrubs that means she had to remove her coat and if she removes the coat she will be Eva... and couldn't scrub in the surgery.
She went into the changing room and was thinking about what to do, meanwhile, she got the idea to wear the coat inside, so she wrote a letter to Eva explaining everything and asked her to wear the coat first and then the scrub, by doing so, she can be Era again and she can participate in the surgery.
So Eva and Era are ready to perform their first surgery together. It was a great experience for both of them anyhow Eva could not experience it herself but Era can.
The patient was brought to the operating theatre and everything was ready. Era stepped into the operation theatre after a long period of 2 years, she was very excited.
She did everything that had to be done by the assistant before David came in. He was surprised to see that everything was ready.
All he needs to do is to start the surgery. He said,
" Hello everyone this is a case of pneumonectomy and I am chief surgeon David I am going to start this now".
Two of Ben's interns also join the surgery. They saw Era as the assistant and started talking to each other. David saw them and asked furiously
" if you don't want to concentrate on the surgery just get lost".
They stopped talking and started concentrating on the surgery. Now the door of the operation theatre opened and another doctor joined them for the surgery.
It was Dr. Jenny. the moment Era saw Dr. Jenny she was devastated, she tumbled once and then avoided looking at her she was so frightened that she couldn't hold it in.
David already started the surgery, Era couldn't stand there and asked to leave, to drink water. David stared at her and nodded his head. She went outside and drank water to calm herself.
Now that she was in Eva's body, she realized that Jenny couldn't recognize her. Jenny was always a bully for her, she used to make her life hell. Era was a simple girl so she couldn't stand back for herself and always got bullied.
After a small break, she was ready to face Jenny and to attend the surgery, so she went in and stood in her place.
The surgery went very well and Era assisted David brilliantly, he called Jenny to assist him just in case, Eva would make mistakes, but surprisingly it was Era, not Eva, who was outstanding in her work.
She hardly made any mistakes and that impressed David. He was so shocked that how could a first-year resident assist him so well without making any mistakes? It reminded him of Era, his student whom he used to admire.
After her performance, everyone in the operation theatre was impressed by Era.
Dave, the anesthesiologist present there, complimented her that she would be a very good doctor in the future. He was one of the oldest staff at the hospital so she was very happy to hear that.
David left the operation theatre after giving the instructions to the terms of standing there to dress up the wound and everyone was dispatched.
When David returned to his office, Ben was already waiting there for him, he asked
"How was your surgery today? I heard it was a complicated one " David replied,
" yes it was, but it went well. I am glad that the patient will be alright".
Ben was looking around as if he was searching for something. David found it weird and asked him
" Ben do you want something..? what are you looking for''
Ben said
'' no ..that's nothing, well I just saw your room is good, the decoration is nice..."
suddenly David asked
" and my assistant.."
Ben said
" Good... hmm!! what do you mean ?? I didn't get it."
David laughed and said
" it seems like you are interested in that intern, so it was her you were talking about.. yesterday. well, I think it's a good choice...she can be a good doctor, but sometimes I find her to be clumsy and sometimes she is outstanding. I can't decide where she belongs'',
Ben was keenly listening and said
" to be honest, I don't know why but I keep getting attracted to her, she's different, and you were right about her, she was superb today, you know there was an emergency patient admitted today, he was brain hemorrhage patient, 1-minute delay in diagnosis and we would have lost him .... and the main thing is, the one who diagnosed him was Eva, I think she has a future in neurology.."
David starred at him and said
" Oh, so the other day you were here to ask for my intern...but you couldn't say .. look I don't know what happened in the morning but from what I saw in the OR she has a very good scope in thoracic surgeries, and I want her to focus... anyway she is still my intern"
.Ben kept silent as if he was caught,
" yes .. right I know, but we'll be changing interns next week..hmn ..then that's fine for me,"
he said and left the room laughing sarcastically.
