Kapitel 2: Hela

[650 BCE - War of the Nine Realms.]

[Age: 15(Asgardian years)]

- MC POV -

As the sun came over the horizon, I felt a familiar strength returning to me and I woke up with a smile. I am back, back in my true form.

My father, Freyr Njördson, had distinguished himself in the War of the Nine Realms as the heir to the throne of Vanaheim. I wished to do the same, no, I will surpass him, as such is my birthright. But, I was chained back by a curse I have to suffer through every night.

I scorned the weakness that plagued me at night, and my true form being shriveled into a smaller and weaker body. Oh, how I longed for my home in Vanaheim. The brilliant palace that always faced the sun to show those beneath us the glory of the gods that they serve.

More importantly, today was the day that I will finally be able to join the war as a warrior and earn glory and honor so that all know the might of Escanor!

...

Soon I, along with the other new Einherjar lined up in front of Tyr at the Training Hall as he started giving his speech about keeping our heads on us and not overestimating ourselves or some nonsense like that.

He soon noticed that I was not listening, not like I cared, and said, "Luckily, or unluckily for some idiots here, you all will be brought into battle by Odin's Executioner, the Goddess of Death herself."

'Goddess of Death. What a presumptuous title, let's see if she is worthy of commanding me.'

In entered Hela with a glare in her full battle armor. That armor also, unfortunately, came with a helmet covered in large, exaggerated spikes that honestly looked funny, and impractical, and took away from the intimidation tactic she was trying to use on us by staring into each of our eyes with her bloodlust.

Although that might have worked on others, I was struggling to hold in my laughter at how impractical and over-the-top her 'battle armour' looked.

Notting how ineffective her bloodlust was on me, she said with an eyebrow raised, "A chick with no sense of danger, interesting. What is your name?"

I simply responded, "My name is Escanor, Hela."

The moment those words left my mouth my surroundings seemed to get colder, which should be impossible with the heat my true form emitted.

Tyr's face visibly paled as he pleaded to Hela, "I am sorry your highness, he is just a young and arrogant boy please show him mercy!"

Hela smirked, amused.

"Well then Escanor, why don't you come up here and show me your strength that you are so proud of."

Deciding to go along with the play and test my to-be commander I stepped ahead and readied my enchanted Uru battle axe and charged at her.

*Swip*

One hand.

That is all that it took for her to not only deflect my charge but also increase the force at which I hit the training room wall.

I was shocked. Overwhelmed by the fact she completely overwhelmed me at almost noon. I pulled myself off the wall and thought, 'No matter, I am still not at my peak, once it strikes noon the real battle will start.'

There were only a few minutes remaining till noon so I decided to push her back by using my magic. As I channeled my power through my axe, Its edge quickly formed a hot ball of flame.

By this time the rest of the Einherjar and Tyr had already left the grounds and the intense heat from my magic started melting the stone and heating up the metal around me. I continued to pour my power into it and grew it from the size of my fist to a huge mass of flames about 2 meters in diameter. At the same time, I prepared numerous smaller suns, and thus I was now ready to unleash my ultimate magic.

Hela commented, "Oh, it seems that you are finally ready. Took you long enough."

Determined to wipe that smirk off her face and to show my superiority I declared, "Solar Barrage!"

The numerous smaller suns flew at her and exploded on her unleashing a wave of heat and destruction, not giving her time to rest I stuck her with the 2-meter sun.

*BOOM!*

The explosion unleashed such intense heat and destruction that dwarfed my previous attack and the Training Hall was in shambles, full of molten rock and debris.

'It should be impossible for her to come out of that unscathed. Dear me, did I go too far? What if I killed her? Oh well, I guess I would have to replace her.'

But then as the intense light subsided and the waves of heat started to settle, I heard a voice that sent a chill down my spine.

"Disappointing."

Hela spoke as the dust settled, and then I saw it. I saw the impossible. She was completely unscathed from my onslaught of attacks and seemed to be unaffected by the immense heat that was melting all the rock around us.

"Oh, how interesting. The heat you emit is growing stronger. So you have one more trick up your sleeve. Let's see what it is."

Pushing my disbelief aside I started to plan a way for me to gain the upper hand and win - something that I had deemed unnecessary and beneath me before.

'Although I hate to admit it, but I will have to keep her busy till I reach my "The One" form if I want to beat her'

I charged at her once again with my axe but this time I made sure to stay out of her range and take advantage of my greater reach to kite her with powerful blows. I used my greater mass and still-increasing size and physical strength to keep her busy while using speed unusual for my size to constantly move around and look for blind spots.

For the last minute before noon, I decided to step back and catch my breath for my final attack.

"Already tired?" Hela taunts, but I ignore it and start gathering and swirling all the heat and power in my body in my axe while turning into The One.

As I enter this state I feel my body being filled with incomparable strength as my mere presence melts rock, and a small sun that was constantly getting bigger appeared on my axe.

I unleash my ultimate magic as soon as it has finished charging and shout with vigor "Brilliant Prominence!"

The gigantic swirling mass of flames 10 meters in diameter shoots towards Hela, melting everything in its path.

Hela with a serious look on her face summons two obsidian black two-handed swords, throwing two at the Brilliant Prominence while covering herself with a large triangular shield.

*BOOOOM*

The swords disintegrated into ash after striking the swirling mass of flames, but they had accomplished their purpose. My magic became unstable and exploded, sending out waves of heat so intense that they melted steel and vaporized stone.

Before the dust settled, although I wished to deny it, I knew that Hela had not been affected by my attack. Deep down, a seed of doubt had been planted in my heart. Doubt of my strength, doubt of my magic, doubt of my superiority.

After putting away the damaged shield, Hela speaks with a smirk, "Impressive. I never would have thought that you would have been able to produce flames strong enough to burn my Necro-swords."

Looking at her form without any damage, I fall into despair and feel my strength leaving me. My body slowly deflates as I turn into my cursed form.

'Why? Why have I turned into this form? Didn't the accursed weakness take over only at night?'

"Though your ego might be a hinderance in battle." Hela continues unperturbed.

"Consider yourself lucky, I see potential in you and so I shall train you myself. After all, I wouldn't want to lose such and exceptional soldier."

I didn't hear any of her words as my ears suddenly started ringing. My head throbbed in pain as if an anvil had been dropped on it.

'Arrogance? Was that all I amounted to? An arrogant frog in a well?'

And then, I blacked out.

-----

Hello there! I decided put the entire fight in one decent-sized chapter since my previous chapters were so pitifully small and fixed any potential plot holes and inconsistencies.

Also, Hela is strong as f**k and also wielded Mjolnir before it was passed onto Thor. She mastered all forms of weapon-based combat, was an expert tactician, and able take on an entire army of elite Asgardian warriors on winged horses that can jump/fly though space.

Tell me your thoughts!
