Note #1218 of professor Acacia's pokemon research log.

Subject of research: Route 16

General introduction to flora and fauna:

(not written yet)

Personal notes:

It's been 3 weeks since we started exploring the woods on Route 18 and the girls and me could gather a lot of battle-experience and also knowledge about Pokémon living in the wild.

Magby and me could also fine tune our battle tactics and Magby was hard at work mastering the move Psychic, his Psychic will sadly never be as strong as a genuine psychic-type, so I mainly trained him on using Psychic to control the flames outside his body. He can do this much longer since it is a lot easier to control the flames he himself produced and it grants him tremendous flexibility in battles whether he uses the flames burning in his surroundings to defend against enemy attacks or uses the flames around the foes to attack them, though these actions will never be equal to actual moves since moves work with much more elemental energies. This way Psychic can also be used against dark-type Pokémon, since it doesn't effect the Pokémon itself, but the flames around it, only if the enemy uses a dark-type move on the flames will the pschic-control be negated.

When it comes to the others, Cynthia and Gible are an awesome duo, where I prepare strategies for every imaginable scenario she uses her wit and intuition to improvise on the fly and manages to surprise her enemy almost every single time. She's really a natural when it comes to batteling, I have no doubts that she will be a good, no, great trainer in the future with a mighty Garchomp at her side  though now the small one is just a adorable, but determined, Gible.

Elesa is the same as before, her Elekid has a lot of power and both of them favour their flashy battlestyle, where they literally rain lightning on their foes while looking spectacular, they actually make their battles look elegant, even when their enemies never think that.

Last but not least comes Skyla. Skyla is one of those trainers everyone hates batteling, she always makes use of her advantages, and that's totally not wrong, mind you, but she really goes to the extreme. She especially trained her Ducklett to stay in the sky for as long as possible and just bombards her enemies with long range attacks, never closing in unless necessary. I never expected that beneath her bubbly personality she would hide a patience so enduring that it's almost creepy. She only commands Ducklett to close in when her enemy is better at ranged attacks than Ducklett  which is hard since she specializes in them, or if she wants to bait her foe into a trap.

I am excited really about tomorrow, we want to go deeper into the forest than we ever went before.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

A shout rang through the not so quiet forest. "Be careful, Cynthia!"

A young girl with blond hair, wearing black outdoor clothing, reacted promptly reacted to the shout and jump to the side. And she dodged at exactly the right time as only a moment later a Liepard, which was using Shadow Claw, cut open the earth where Cynthia was just standing.

The group was actually fighting a pack of Liepards that ambushed them as they accidentally crossed the big cats' territory. There were 11 Liepards in this pack, but that wasn't such a big problem for the teens initially, as they quickly split up the enemies so each of their Pokemon faced two Liepards, with the exception of Magby, who faced two plus the leader Liepard. But just then, the twelfth Liepard, who had been hiding up to that point, launched a sneak attack on Cynthia, who dodged just in time.

However, this attack had far-reaching consequences for the entire fight, as Gible tried to get to her trainer as quickly as possible while turning her back on her two opponents. The two Liepards took advantage of this opportunity and both attacked Gible with their favorite attack, Shadow Claw. Gible was able to dodge one attack, but the second hit her in the back, dealing a lot of damage while the force of the attack knocked Gible sideways, leaving her unable to help Cynthia.

Elesa and Skyla wanted to send their Pokémon to help Cynthia as well, but the Liepards started attacking non-stop, ignoring their own injuries, leaving both Elekid and Ducklett with no choice but to focus on their own battles.

Magby, the strongest of the four Pokémon, had already defeated one of its three opponents when the chaos began. Jasper quickly realizing that Elekid and Ducklett couldn't come to Cynthia's rescue, quickly ran away from his partner while ordering him to use Lava Plume.

As soon as Magby heard the command, it literally exploded, sending flames flying in all directions.

Boss Liepard and his subject were caught blind and suffered severe burns.

After that, Magby rushed to save Cynthia, on his way he overtook Jasper, who was also heading there.

When Magby arrived, Liepard was about to cut Cynthia to pieces with Night Slash, but Magby swiftly attacked at Jasper's scream. "Quick Magby, hit him back with Mach Punch and then finish it off with Flamethrower!"

Magby's flaming fist slammed into Liepard's side, knocking it back, and then bathed Liepard in a mighty jet of flame.

Liepard cried out in anguish and slumped to the ground after trying to get up.

The other Liepards stopped all their attacks from the shock of hearing that scream, and luckily the Liepard leader let out a roar shortly after, ordering their retreat.

The two Liepards that fought Gible quickly grabbed the badly injured Liepard and dragged it deeper into the forest with them.

Only when the last Liepard left their vision did Jasper's group breathe a sigh of relief.

But their relief was cut short when Cynthia rushed to Gible. "Oh no Gible, are you alright?!"

At first Gible didn't react, so Jasper, Elesa, Skyla and their Pokémon were expecting the worst, but then a soft "Gible-ble" rang out and they knew, thankfully, it wasn't dead.

But Gible was in a truly deplorable condition, Liepards Shadow Claw raked across his whole back, it left three deep gashes behind.

Cynthia quickly pulled a Hyper Potion and a bottle of water out of her backpack. She used the water to wash off the blood and then used the Hyper Potion so that the would is disinfected and so that it could begin to heal Gible's injuries. Then Cynthia called Gible back to give her some rest and called to the others. "We have to go to the nearest Pokemon Center, the Potion has stabiöized Gible's condition but only the Pokemon Center can heal these wounds without sequelae!"

Jasper swiftly checked the direction and told them where to go. "We have to head in the south-western direction, there is a Pokémon Center about six kilometers away."

They set off quickly, but after about a kilometer they stopped, loud noises came from the thickets north of them. It sounded like Pokémon training, as all you could hear was the repetitive sound of an attack, a pause, and the attack again.

"Let's see if it's a trainer, maybe he has a flying type Pokemon, that would help tremendously." Skyla said after a moment. The others agreed and followed the noises.

A few minutes later the group had to stop because the forest ended in front of them and there was only a rock face. The sounds, however, came from behind the cliff.

Skyla went to the wall to listen to her, but as she leaned against it, she slipped right through.

Jasper, Elesa, Cynthia, and their Pokemon got scared and ran to the wall to see what happened, but Ducklett didn't even stop and ran right into the wall and through it as well.

Then Jasper reached out his hand to the wall and when he would have touched it his hand went straight through.

After he pulled back his hand he scratched his chin thoughtfully. "It seems like this rock is just some kind of illusion, it's not really there."

Elesa and Cynthia calmed down at Jasper's comment and instead became curious as to who might have made this type of illusion and for what purpose.

A few minutes and tests later, Jasper was reasonably confident that the illusion itself was harmless, so the walked climbed through the wall along with Magby and Elekid.

As Jasper just came through the wall and was about to reopen his eyes, which he had closed before he climbed through the wall, he only heard two gasps from Elesa and Cynthia.

Jasper's eyelids fluttered open and he, too, marveled at the sight in front of him. A beautiful field of brightly colored flowers stretched out in front of him, disappearing into the fog a little further ahead. The flower meadow was surrounded by huge trees that looked ancient. It was a simply idyllic landscape, as if no human had ever set foot in this place and maybe that's true.
