Kapitel 30: 30. He's In Love
"I don't know your mother, Phi, but logically, all women would like something beautiful or shiny. However, judging by your family's reputation, I also believe your mother must be a person with good taste, so I don't think this is too bad," said Javin while holding out a brown leather purse, which matches a silk scarf of a matching color, which is light brown with thin cream-colored stripes.
Forth looked at Javin with raised eyebrows. "Why did you choose this?" asked Forth quietly.
Javin was shocked and blushed. He put the purse and scarf he had chosen back on the shelf in embarrassment.
"I-I'm sorry, Phi, of course I can't choose cheap things like that for your mother," said Javin, looking down. "Sorry, I just wanted to give something away, but if you think it's inappropriate... err... how about I, uh, don't come over to your house, Phi?"
Forth lightly tapped the side of Javin's head while smiling broadly. "Stupid! Don't like to think unnecessarily before you know the background of a problem. You are always overthinking. I mean, how can you choose these things, the colors and styles are my mother's favorite?"
Javin was dumbfounded and stared at Forth with disbelieving eyes. He points to previous objects. "Are you sure, Phi? Isn't it because this is cheap and not classy."
Forth pinched Javin's chin gently. "You can't buy all of these, or maybe you can only buy one."
"Uh, why?"
"Because the price is too expensive and you will spend all your salary while working for me in one purchase. No, you can't! You said you have to save and be frugal, right?"
Javin laughed at Forth's words and took the purse and scarf he had chosen earlier then walked ahead to the cashier.
He placed all the items on the counter and the cashier behind the counter stared at him. There was a look of awe implied in the cashier girl's eyes. "These are all your purchases, sir? Will you pay cash or by credit card or debit card?"
"I'll--"
"Debit. Wrap it up in nice wrapping paper, please."
Javin turned his head and looked at Forth with a frown, while the cashier girl was processing the payment.
"Phi! I'll pay for it! I have my own money!" Javin said annoyed.
Forth smiled and took Javin's hand, squeezing it lightly. "Who says it's free? I'm going to have Shone cut your salary for the next ten months to pay for everything."
Javin smiled again and nodded. "I'll make sure Phi Shone takes a cut from my salary for this."
The cashier girl cleared her throat and handed back the debit card, receipt, and items purchased, neatly wrapped in a nice box and matching paper bag.
Forth invites Javin to go to another shop and buy some other stuff. After that they went into a cafe to rest while ordering coffee and cake.
"Phi Forth, may I ask you something?" asked Javin carefully.
"Of course you can, Nong," Forth said as he put the phone on the table and opened his jacket. "What do you want to know?"
"Yesterday, Phi Shone told me to mentally prepare because you invited me to your mother's birthday. What does that mean?"
Forth snorted and inwardly cursed Shone who had made Javin look so worried.
"That Shone likes to go overboard with everything. He's worried that a lot of people in my family will question you if I take you to a family event like that. I've never brought anyone to a family event before, so this time they might wonder."
Javin's face looked pale. "In that case, it's best if I don't need to come along, because that would definitely make you uncomfortable."
Forth patted Javin's hand on the table. "You are my personal assistant and of course you have to come with me since you have to take good care of me. Besides, we won't have to be there too long either. I'll find an excuse to leave sooner."
Javin seemed unsure of Forth's explanation because he just sighed and looked down. Their orders then came and Forth calmly pulled Javin's hand on the table.
"Hey, why are you so gloomy? What are you thinking?"
Javin shook his head as he stirred the mocacino late in his glass.
"Phi Javin?" suddenly a voice rebuked Javin in a cheerful tone.
Forth and Javin turned to a man standing near their table. "Oh, Nong Tim?" Javin said with a smile. "Why are you here?"
Timmy smiled broadly. "This is my stepmother's cafe and sometimes I help with work here when it's crowded. I've attended barista training and the coffee I make is pretty good," answered Timmy with a beaming face. He turned to Forth and nodded.
Javin caught Forth's face turning flat as Timmy approached them. Forth was a private person and didn't like being approached by strangers suddenly. That's why he always avoids crowds. When shopping he did it quickly and effectively. This cafe is also an upscale cafe, which is not too crowded and not just anyone can pay the price of a cup of coffee which is very expensive.
"You were with your brother, Phi?" asked Timmy.
Javin smiled and shook his head. "No. It's my bo--"
"Javin's boyfriend," cut Forth in a firm tone.
Javin gasped and stared at Forth with round eyes. Timmy was taken aback and was silent for a few seconds. He looked back and forth between Forth and Javin, then smiled awkwardly.
"Owh sorry, did I interrupt your date?"
"No, no, we're not dating, we're just--"
"Baby, why are you still embarrassed to admit that we're dating?" interrupted Forth in a soft voice. "This is modern times, honey, there's no shame in telling people we're in a special relationship. Isn't that right, Nong Timmy?" said Forth with a smirked.
Timmy looked at Javin with unreadable eyes, then nodded slowly. "It's okay, Phi. I'm gay too," Timmy said.
Forth chuckled. "Nong, we're not gay. We're not attracted to anyone, other men, other than each other. For me, if it's not Javin, then it's not going to work and I guess Javin's feels the same for me."
"Phi Forth...."
"Ah, it's too late. Let's go home, Javin." Forth grabbed Javin's hand on the table and held it tightly.
Javin complied and said goodbye to Timmy who looked disappointed.
"Phi Forth, what are you doing?" protested Javin after reaching the car.
"Why are you acting like that to Timmy. He's Danai's cousin I told you about. He--"
"He's in love with you!"
"Huh?"
