Kapitel 29: Arc 1: Part 29

"Hello, everyone! My name is Will Hubert, from Second Year! I'm here as the host for today's fight!" A young man with blonde hair stood in the MC area.

"This is the first major fight of the year! First-Year Class Two vs. Class Seven! Clearly, our junior students are far more aggressive than we thought!

"And now! I shall introduce you all to the Class Two and Class Seven representatives! Class Two, starting from Ferlando Ophius, Leonhart Vizil, and lastly, Joshua Fray!" Will pointed his hand to the seats where Class Two's representatives sat. The audience applauded and cheered. The loudest came from Class Two.

"For Class Seven! For the first time, the infamous class appeared in this academy and is said to be the class of those with potential! Vyn Ervin! Mina and Julian Edelfert!"

Again, the audience cheered but not as loudly as before because Class Two booed at them.

"This is a one-on-one fight; whoever wins the first two rounds is the winner! But don't worry! The third round will not be skipped if that happened! We'll see them fight too!

"Now! For the first round, Ferlando Ophius versus Vyn Ervin!"

Vyn stepped into the arena and eyed Ferlando. This was the first time he met a prince. Judging by appearance, Ferlando truly had an aura of a prince.

"Vyn Ervin," called Ferlando, "you are one of the strongest in Class Seven." Ferlando drew his sword from his sheath. It was a double-edged sword.

"I don't think I am, but others have said otherwise." Vyn unsheathed his sword as well, which was a single-edged blade. To be honest, Vyn didn't like being referred to as one of the strongest; he knew he was strong, but he felt like he was demeaning the others by claiming that title.

"We will see about that." Ferlando prepared his stance.

"Begin!" Will announced, and the fight began.

Ferlando immediately buffed himself and raised his left hand up. Above him, a large ice shard and a fireball were forming.

Vyn frowned as he saw the ice shard flung toward him, followed by the fireball not far behind. He prepared to slash them down with his sword, but those two spells unexpectedly collided.

The mist was formed as a result of the collision between the fireball and the ice shard. Vyn's vision became limited, and he needed to pour his mana to expand his senses. Something fast moved from the front side, and at the same time, he was also flanked by two other objects. Vyn took a step back, but an ice wall erupted behind him.

Vyn realized that Ferlando was attempting to corner him. He saw Ferlando appear from the mist with a swinging sword. It wasn't a typical swing because water traced around the swing and came at him. Vyn sighed softly and blocked Ferlando's attack. He then put his left foot on the ice wall and pumped his mana on it. At the same time, two ice shards launched a pincer attack. Vyn pushed Ferlando away by kicking the ice wall, causing it to break.

Ferlando was surprised by the push, and despite his best efforts to reinforce himself to hold out against the push, he was still unable to withstand it, allowing Vyn to pass through him and escape the mist.

When ice shards were coming at him, Vyn skidded onto the ground and swung his sword constantly. Vyn was aware that Ferlando was using the mist to easily form the ice shards to attack him. He began by giving himself an advantage on the field, and since that was the case, Vyn had to erase that field advantage.

The wind slowly gathered around him and his sword. When the wind became strong enough, the ice shards that came at him were shattered into pieces. Vyn pulled his sword and swung it horizontally. A large wind slash sailed toward the mist and then exploded amid the mist. The windblast caused the mist to dissipate, revealing Ferlando, who had covered himself with an ice dome, despite the fact that the ice dome had cracks in it.

Vyn inhaled deeply and dispersed the wind around him before compressing them to his sword. Vyn had his sword in a sheathed stance before swinging it toward Ferlando. A powerful wind slash flew toward Ferlando, easily destroying his ice dome.

Ferlando quickly raised a thick ice wall to cover himself and prepared for a counterattack, but the ice wall was slashed diagonally in two. Ferlando quickly dashed away, he couldn’t just stay in place unless he wished to be hit by Vyn's attack. He knew there was no quick spell he could use to counter such an attack.

Ferlando covered his shoe with ice and slid through the arena at high speed, hoping that if Vyn attacked, his attack would miss. However, Vyn still went for an attack, but this time he lowered his sword to the ground. His sword glowed brightly in blue light as a result of him, concentrating his mana on it before he swung it. The slash went fast, but it wasn't aimed straight toward Ferlando but rather at the space in front of him. The slash missed Ferlando, but it got the job done. A deep slash crack trailed to where the slash had gone on the ground.

Ferlando had to make an abrupt jump because if he didn't, he would trip. Just after he jumped, another slash passed in front of him. This time, the slash left a wide, deep crack.

In a panic, Ferlando created an ice tile below him as a jumping platform, but that opportunity was lost when Vyn's slash came at him. Upon contact, the wind slash blew up into several wild winds that scratched Ferlando's entire body before sending him flying away.

Despite having coated himself with magic, it wasn't enough for Ferlando to withstand the brutal winds. His magic armor was torn apart, and his body had shallow injuries that ooze blood. In pain, he landed on the ground and scrunched his face.

Ferlando didn't expect this. He got injured first, while his opponent looked fine. It was a mistake for him to allow Vyn to gain distance from him. However, to unleash such powerful attacks, Ferlando believed Vyn had used a great deal of his mana. He figured he still had a chance to win.

Ferlando used his ice magic to freeze and seal his injuries. It was a temporary measure for now since Vyn had changed his stance as if he would pounce at him.

And pounced Vyn did, he vanished from his original position and reappeared in front of Ferlando within seconds, sword unsheathed and aimed at Ferlando's neck. The magic Ferlando used to defend himself had cracked, and all that remained was his skin in contact with Vyn's blade.

"Please surrender," Vyn stated while looking at Ferlando calmly.

"Kuh …." Ferlando gritted his teeth. His brain was racing with ideas to escape this situation. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't come up with a solution. Using magic to blast Vyn away? Vyn’s sword was faster than his magic. Is there any kind of magic that could make him move fast? Vyn seemed to be faster than him as well. Reinforced himself and engaged in close combat? The sword was touching his skin already.

When Ferlando looked over to Class Two's representative side, he noticed Leonhart staring mockingly at him. It made him grit his teeth further in anger. He couldn't believe he'd been defeated like this.

"I surrender," Ferlando said in a defeated and humiliated tone.

"And there we go, folks! A devastating victory for Vyn Ervin! The rumor appears to be true! Class Seven is special!"

Vyn drew his sword back and sheathed it. "Good fight, but you should have kept pressing me instead of playing it safe," Vyn told Fernando out of kindness. But to Ferlando, it felt like Vyn was mocking him. He clenched his fists really hard and walked over to his representative side.

"Good going, weakling," Leonhart said with a grin on his face, "it appears you aren't as strong as you thought."

Ferlando sat down without saying anything. Joshua, who witnessed this, also remained silent. His thoughts were on Vyn. He'd seen just how fast Vyn moved. It made him realize that he needed to be as fast as Vyn or faster than him to become the fastest dual swords wielder.
