Before Varya returned to bed where the prince lay, she wiped off the foggy mirror in her bathroom and stared at the reflection looking back at her as usual but something felt different.
Overall she had been extremely lucky to physically spring back easily after giving birth. However, as her hand ran from her chest down to her stomach, her eyes never left the burn scar.
The doctors told her it was amazing how well her scar had healed, but there was still a scar. The faintly purple flesh created a triangle that wrapped around her right side. The skin was a somewhat different texture than the rest. They said it would get better over time. She didn't believe them.
Back on Earth, there was so much scrutiny regarding her appearance. She made sure to always put her best foot forward and take care of herself so no one would have anything bad to say about her. It was hard to let go of that idea of herself.
