I Will Eventually Embark on the Path of No Return Called a Hero [Arc2] - 22. A Flying Kick is a Knight's Basic Skill

"Mr. Cyd, you're being a bit excessive..."

After watching Reika Rikudou and Jack leave, Laeticia tugged at Cyd's sleeve and spoke softly.

"Has it changed back?" Cyd raised an eyebrow.

"It was my suggestion," Laeticia scratched her face, looking somewhat embarrassed. "Miss Jeanne is just too kind."

"That's just foolishness," Atalanta snorted.

"Actually, I was also speaking to you," Cyd reached out and patted Laeticia. "You should understand now, the Holy Grail War isn't the romantic fantasy of high school students. Everyone is fighting not out of choice but to fulfill their own desires. You might witness even more brutal things from now on."

"Let's forget about that useless country girl and return to our own lives," Atalanta said seriously.

"I won't regret it. Since I came, I will use these eyes to witness it till the end," Laeticia lifted her head. Her determined gaze made Cyd momentarily think that the foolish country girl had returned.

"Smack—"

Cyd delivered a hand strike to Laeticia's head.

"Why?" Laeticia crouched on the ground, holding her head.

"A minor who hasn't come of age shouldn't make grand statements," Cyd lowered his hand. "Tonight, Assassin will attack Sisigou, the last magician. After my warning, they will probably clean up the Sisigou's corpse thoroughly."

"Eh? Then Mr. Sisigou is in great danger!" Laeticia's eyes widened. "We need to warn him!"

"Don't worry. Despite Saber just eating away, she is quite strong," Cyd shrugged.

Mordred, who was eating barbecue, sneezed.

"Besides, Sisigou is someone who understands the situation. We should just focus on being the rulers."

"So, you mean we should do nothing?"

"Exactly!"

At night, Sisigou and Mordred, who was carrying a large bag of snacks, were walking down an empty street in the cold wind.

"Isn't it a pity that the ruler won't be joining us?" Sisigou scratched his head with some regret. "What a shame."

"Doesn't matter," Mordred shrugged. "I can handle small roles like Assassin with just a few moves."

"I'd feel more at ease if you didn't have snack crumbs around your mouth," Sisigou sighed.

"Hm?" Mordred stopped, her expression turning serious.

"Here they come!" Sisigou exhaled, pulling out a gun.

"Master, that little toy of yours won't be much use against a Servant," Mordred placed the bag of snacks on the ground, and her menacing armor covered her as she let go of the bag.

"Really disappointing—those were my eating utensils," Sisigou looked around. "Where is that guy?"

"Not sure, just a hunch," Mordred surveyed all possible hiding spots. "Master, don't stray too far from me."

The street at night was unexpectedly quiet. Even at this hour, it was strange to have no activity. With so many events happening, it wouldn't be unusual to have police patrols, but Sisigou hadn't encountered any, not even stray cats. The only sound was Sisigou's breathing.

It was as if time had stopped, Sisigou thought, until he saw the mist creeping in from all directions.

"It seems we've been targeted first," Mordred clicked her tongue at the unusual mist.

"It should be Assassin making a move," Sisigou instinctively covered his nose and mouth.

Mist appearing out of nowhere could only be the work of a Servant. Even if told this mist was just to obscure vision, he wouldn't believe it.

"Saber, charge through the mist," Sisigou calmly gave orders. "We don't need to fight in their home turf."

"It might hurt a bit!" Mordred pulled Sisigou's hand and a crimson lightning burst from her armor. "Charge through at full speed!"

"Ahhh!!!!"

Charging through thick mist was a foolish move, especially when a hunter might be waiting to capitalize on any mistake, even a brief one, to claim their lives.

But the hunter miscalculated. Mordred, seemingly unaffected by the mist, skillfully avoided every obstacle and reached a place not yet covered by the fog.

"Cough, cough, cough! It really is poisonous!" Sisigou collapsed, coughing. Despite trying to hold his breath, Saber's speed was too great. He couldn't control his breathing for even a second, causing a sharp pain in his lungs.

Now he understood how magicians could be silently and effortlessly dealt with.

His tense nerves relaxed for a moment, but the hunter had been waiting for this instant. A sharp knife silently aimed at Sisigou's throat.

"Bang—"

Mordred raised her hand and kicked the hunter's abdomen with her foot, using Sisigou's head as a support.

The small figure flew straight into the mist with a powerful kick from Mordred and then made a loud crash, clearly hitting a wall.

"Nice kick. If only my neck wasn't protesting," Sisigou rubbed his sore neck. "By the way, why are you so skilled at flying kicks as a knight?"

"Flying kicks are basic knight skills," Mordred waved her big sword.

"So, how much damage did you inflict on Assassin?" Sisigou stood up, placing his hand on his shotgun.

"Who knows, that kick was for real," Mordred squinted. "Master, stay here. I'm going in to finish the job."

Without waiting for Sisigou's response, Mordred charged into the mist.

"Hey! Remember the mist is poisonous!" Sisigou shouted, though he wasn't sure if Mordred heard him.

"No problem!"

In the almost zero-visibility fog, Mordred calmly surveyed her surroundings. The toxic fog made her body feel heavy, but it didn't affect her much.

Mordred raised an eyebrow and held her sword in a defensive position.

With a crisp sound, a scalpel fell at her feet.

"Impressive! Even with poor visibility!"

A childish voice echoed as if amplified through the fog from all directions.

"Tsk, sneaky," Mordred was somewhat annoyed.

"Hey~ Our name is Jack, Jack the Ripper~ Tell us your real name, will you?"

While the mist didn't hinder Mordred much due to her instincts, combined with Assassin's aura cloaking made her feel unsure of where to strike. She could sense Assassin's attacks but couldn't pinpoint her location.

Being passively defensive wasn't her style.

"Blast this place away in one go!"
