Kapitel 4: Chapter:4

Han Ji walked out of a concrete wall as if he was a poltergeist.

His Vision cleared as he saw some dim lights and the constant buzzing sound in his ears had finally disappeared, he saw a hallway made out of brick walls.

[..Stage 1 of Labyrinth, also called 'Inhabitant Area' is the 1st and a safe Stage where you can meet people and can even find accomplices, It looks like a warehouse with the supply of Almond water and electricity, you can find various supplies here...]

He remembered the words from the document and proceeded to walk.

'Well...now it feels like a post-apocalyptic world where I have to scavenge for survival and can make friends with fellow survivors hehe'

He continue to walk, The dim fluorescent light wasn't any better than Stage 0, it was worse and made it harder for him to see.

Out of annoyance, he pulled out his phone and used the flashlight for better vision.

As he continued to walk on his way he came across a wooden crate.

He looked at the crate and a small smile appeared on his lips.

[...Random wooden crates, cardboard boxes, and even sometimes safes also appear at this Stage and it's highly recommended to open them because they are usually filled with supplies but be quick if you take your eyes off them or if the lights get cut off they usually disappear with no traces left behind...]

'Bingo!'

He felt lucky to run into a crate before even encountering another Quiddity.

He rushed towards the crate as infinite possibilities filled his mind.

'What can it be? A sword? or a bow? crossbow? A knight amour? an assault rifle? or a magic potion?'

He thought as he went closer to the crate and opened it.

All his dreams went down the sink as all, he found in the crate was some random fabric, a small rope, a cuboidal cartoon with no label, well luckily he found a rusty revolver there with a box that had faded text on it with a faint visible outline of a bullet printed on it.

You don't need to be any genius to tell that it contained ammunition.

Hanji picked up the revolver.

To his surprise, it was heavier than he expected.

'I never knew guns were this heavy.'

He pointed the barrel down and started to fiddle with the centre part of the revolver.

'As I've seen in video games... this cylinder should come out.'

He pushed the bullet chamber out of the revolver, which had all 8 rounds to his luck.

He smiled and placed the revolver in his right pocket.

It will take time for him to get used to the weight of the weapon, but he knows he will get used to it eventually.

Next, he checked the ammunition box and counted the bullets.

'1..4... 13.... 21.'

The box had 21 bullets which meant he had 29 rounds he could shoot which were probably enough for him to defend himself against the Quiddities.

Next, Item was the carton without any labelling.

He scanned the box for any form of text or symbols and luckily there were none,

[...Almond water is the most crucial item one needs to survive here, the item can be found throughout the Labyrinth, in different, bottles, cartons, and even dispensers, You need to make sure the bottles and cartons don't have any labels on them and before drinking make sure it's Almond water by its smell since Labyrinth has its fair share of dangerous liquids...]

He removed the cap from the carton and took a sniff, the pleasant smell of vanilla and mint entered his nostrils.

'Bingo!' he thought and recapped the carton and somehow managed to fit the carton into his back pocket.

The fabric and rope didn't look useful to him but still, he placed them on his shoulder and proceeded to walk.

'Maybe I can use them in any different form of way.'

Since he has played a lot of survival games he developed a habit of gathering everything he can get.

He started to walk again using his phone's flashlight.

***

The flickering of lights has been getting more and more frequent now even though he was using his phone's flashlight, they still managed to spook him.

It has been more than a few hours since he kept on walking.

And he ran across a few more crates to his luck he found a black school bag in one, which resembled the one he used to take to school It looked funny in a situation like this but still, it was efficient to carry stuff around.

The other things he found were 4 bottles and one more carton of Almond water, A swiss army knife, 3 energy bars, A can of sweet beans, A jacket that he was currently wearing and some other useless stuff like some electronic parts, ball bearings and some coins that he just picked up for apparently no reasons.

'hehe, It reminds me of the times when I used to play games and stack up everything I used to come across even if I didn't need them. '

He took a few turns that lead him to a staircase.

Even though dim flickering lights were still there and also the phone's flashlight.

His gut was giving him a bit of an eerie feeling about them.

He slowly climbed up the stairs.

When he finally made it to the top and he tried to scan the room with just his eyes but then...

"Heok!" A loud gasp escaped his mouth and his eyes widened as the expressions of pure fright were written all over his face.

In the dark corner of the room, he saw two glowing eyes staring right at his soul.

There were no pupils just round bright glowing circles and a huge glowing frown.

It is not abnormal to find someone's frown ugly but the frown this creature carried...it would be considered an insult to the word ugly.

The creature's teeth were crooked and oversized, with a lot of gaps.

Even though its eyes and teeth were glowing the creature's physical features and face were still not visible.

There were no traces of its body or face.

Maybe because he never had one, to begin with.

Han Ji's breathing was uncontrollably fast, his heart felt like it might jump out of his chest.

As his mind was blurred for a moment out of sheer fear he dropped the phone which was pointing its flashlight in the straight direction rather than the corner of the room.

It almost felt as if he and the creature were having a staring contest with each other no sound just flickering lights.

The dark brown orbs of the human met the white glowing ones of The Quiddity.

But then it happened, it 'blinked' and disappeared

Even though the creature disappeared Han Ji didn't and he knew he couldn't afford to let his guard down.

After a second his pupils shifted left and right, trying to scan the room for the traces of 'The Frowner'

as he finally remembered the information given about this Quiddity.

[Even though Stage 1 is relatively a safe Stage, there are still some Quiddities there, for example, 'The Frowners' They are beings that lurk in the darkness and the only visible parts of their bodies are their glowing eyes and big frowns, they are friendly Quiddities if you encounter one you don't have to worry just stare it and it will disappear itself, just don't point a flashlight at it or it might get aggressive and hurt you, even though many wanderers have crossed paths with it but there are no reports of a wanderer getting killed by it...]

'Even though it was supposed harmless Quiddity it scared the hell out of me...' He thought as he picked up his phone and looked at its front and back.

'Phew...Gorilla glass and this case were a worthy investment.' he thought as he held on to his phone.

Even though he was happy about his phone, his mind still hasn't recovered from the shock.

He reached into his bag and took a bottle of Almond Water, soon he gulped the whole bottle down at once.

As the liquid gave him a mentally soothing effect.

He sat trying to calm his heart down which was beating faster than a bullet.

Even though Almond Water was calming him down, he was still pretty spooked up from his encounter with the frowner.

He held his head and softly steadied his breathing.

'I need to keep going and look for the safe place... before I encounter a hostile one.'

He stood up and started to walk.

He walked slowly.

dab....dab....dab....dab....dab.

His footsteps made soft sounds as he walked.

It won't be an understatement to say that in these circumstances one might be scared of their own shadow.

You let your guard down for a second, and who knows what kind of misfortune this wretched place holds for you.

His head might have cleared up but still, there was a funny feeling in his gut.

After walking for a few minutes he ran into a room and found a cardboard box in there.

'More stuff!'

The corners of his lips arched up as he rushed towards the cardboard box.

'What can it be this time? Ammo? Food? Armour? Weaponry?'

He thought as he looked at the box with hopeful eyes and opened it but his hopes were crushed again.

When he opened the box and found A notebook with a brown cover and a pencil box.

'Hah..' he sighed and bowed his head in disappointment.

'Not even some Almond water.'

He looked at the notebook and then picked it up alongside the pencil box.

He opened the notebook and then flipped all pages, they were all blank and single-lined.

'Tsk. Not even some information about this place like Where can I find the base?'

Next, he opened the pencil box which had 2 unsharpened pencils and one sharpener.

'Reminds me of kindergarten'.

He closed them both and placed them in his backpack.

***

Almost an hour has passed already.

Han Ji almost forgot about the existence of Quiddities, since he hasn't encountered one again.

It's not like he will want to.

After walking for hours after entering this Stage he felt a little tired now.

Luckily he found an empty room, which had better lighting.

He sat down on the ground and took out an energy bar and started to eat.

Munch.Munch.

'Taste isn't bad at all.'

His gaze then shifted to other stuff in his bag and saw the most recent addition.

'Wait...I have an idea..'

He took out the notebook and pencil box.

He sharpened the pencil and opened the notebook.

[Journal Entry: 1.]

Han Ji has never had a journal or diary, he didn't know what to write but thought it might not hurt to develop a new habit.

'Let's see...'

He tapped the butt of his pencil on his chin, trying to figure out what to write.

[My name is Sung Han Ji, Today I ended up stumbling into an alternative reality called 'The Labyrinth' It is said that this Labyrinth has no end, it's full of weird creatures, a few hours ago, I was chased by one of them, it looked like a human but ran on all-fours at incredible speed, I barely managed to flee from it, At Stage 1 I found some suppliers; A bag, a handgun with some bullets, food, Almond water, this note with pencils and some other stuff. I am trying to look for the safe base created by L.A.B but it all seems futile, After wondering for around a few hours I've taken a rest and now I am writing this journal...]

Before continuing he took a moment to read it.

Cringe...

'Sheesh! I really suck at this.' He tapped his head with the butt of the pencil.

He was thinking about what to write next but then...

Buzz!

With a sound of buzz lights went off and it was blackout except for the room because of the flashlight.

"Heok!" he gasped grabbed the phone in his left hand and pulled out the revolver.

'This is bad...'

[Every once in a while, Stage 1 experiences a blackout it is the worst scenario since, during this time most of the Quiddities become active, and it's advised to lock yourself in a room for the time being and wait for the lights to return...]

Unfortunately, this room had no doors.

His finger twitched on the revolver's trigger he aimed at the entrance.

Waiting for any danger to arrive.

Ready to fill them with lead.

..click...

He pulled the striking hammer of the revolver back with his thumb.

Click, Click, Click, Click.

A familiar sound was heard in the middle of the dead silence of the hallway.

'It's that thing again....'

[..Hounds are human-like Quiddities that run on all fours, they are strong and fast and if you let one of them bit you that's it for you, their saliva contains a virus called Caniscontagione, also known as the 'Hound Virus', if you're infected then you're done for, In less than an hour you'll become one of them, It's an incurable, virus although getting scratch doesn't have any effect, but you need to be careful since they are sharp enough for it to shred you apart..]

'I know you're strong, but I am not running anymore...In my world the man with the gun is the man in power...' (A/N: His Half-American what can you expect?)

Click, Click, Click the sound got louder and then the creature's head appeared from the entrance.

Sniff.Sniff.

It sniffed the air around it.

Then turned his head to Han Ji.

Its long hair covered the majority of its face but Han Ji was able to see its eyes circular white eyes that had no Iris.

As they glowed like pearls in contact with the flashlight.

It bared its teeth at Han Ji.

It felt like time had slowed down.

A cold sweat trickled down from his forehead.

Following the movement of the foamy saliva from the mouth of the Hound.

Every second passed felt like hours.

The sweatdrop reached his chin

Saliva from Hound's mouth hung low, an inch away from the floor.

Drip.

Both touched the ground at once.

"Growwlll!!!"

"Uwahhhh!!!"

Battle cries of both echoed through the Hallways of Stage one.

The Hound jumped 5 feet in the air.

As time slowed down again, its right arm cocked back to claw at the enemy.

The revolver followed the movement of the creature.

There wasn't much distance between the both.

Both were in each other's attack range.

The first hit shall decide the fate of the battle.

SWING!

BANG!
