Kapitel 55: Chapter 51: Netflix Deal Completed

The day Ryan had been waiting for eventually came. It was Thursday, and Ryan was finally about to buy into Netflix.

Ryan, who had already booked an appointment with Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph, arrived at the decided location on time.

Accompany Ryan was his father, Nathan, and their lawyer Saul.

When Ryan heard the lawyer's name, he couldn't help but take another glance at the lawyer to confirm he wasn't Saul Goodmen.

After all, if it was slipping jimmy, he didn't know how he would react, but luckily this was no slipping jimmy that changed his name later on.

It was a typical lawyer with the same name, not the well-known criminal lawyer Saul.

This discovery allowed Ryan, who was scared of a bat-shit-crazy drug lord named Heisenberg, to calm down his tensed nerves.

The meeting finally started with Reed Hastings's surprise that a kid wanted to invest in his company and be the strategic director.

Reed felt this was ridiculous and was about to turn down the deal.

Reed - "Is this some sick joke? You expect me to allow a 13 or 14-year-old kid to be the strategic director of my company?"

Ryan - "Well, that kid has six works currently under production by three of the big six companies in the industry."

"Out of which one of these works star a major action star like Tom cruise and has a budget of 80 million."

Reed Hastings was left completely stunned by Ryan's rebuttal.

Ryan - "Not to mention, I own the full copyright of all six works, so I come with a chance to have three movies and three tv shows."

"Plus, with my and my dad's connections, I could easily tell any big six to start putting works on Netflix, and they would follow suit."

"All I did have to do is make a promise to write them a script in return. You should be begging me to join your company as if I go to your competitor like Hulu."

"I could easily request the big companies to boycott Netflix and tear your company to specks."

"The only reason I haven't done so is cause I don't want to run the company operation but just sit as a creative director."

Reed Hasting couldn't help but drink a glass of water to calm down his tensed nerves. What Ryan said got him sweating. After all, if the big six boycott them, that's practically the entire industry.

On the other hand, Nathan was left shocked, just like Reed. After all, he didn't expect Ryan to have such cut-throat business acumen.

Ryan - "Look, I don't mean to be rude, but I am stating the obvious: I already have plans for two years as the director. I will show them only if you make this deal."

Ryan then negotiated the final deal. Find the finner details below:

Ryan paid three million dollars to buy 49 percent of the company. He also promised that Netflix would have priority for re-runs over all of Ryan's future works. Ryan would also help bring in new movies and shows to Netflix.

Ryan originally wanted to go for the 51 percent stake, but Reed felt it might be too threatening, so he could only get 49 percent in the end.

That way, he couldn't just kick out the founders if he felt like it, as any such major decision on the board of directors would require a 51 percent consensus to pass.

He didn't mind. After all, why would he kick out the founders to begin with? Plus, it allowed him to avoid attending meetings for every small decision.

He could fully act as the sleeping partner that he wanted to be.

The threat of being kicked out always existed, but if they ever dared to get that bold, he could always withdraw all his shows.

Plus use his whole card to force the big six to withdraw with him, but then again, he felt the possibility of this happening was so slim that there was no point thinking about it.

Ryan soon got home, and the rest of the day was regular, with nothing special happening.

Time decided to take a quick nap on his bed (a big giant metal clock), and by the time he woke up, a whole week had passed.

It was finally time for the sixth episode, which Ryan had always wondered how it would work as it is an episode that takes place in the past before he came into this world.

Ryan, who had just woken up, soon received the answer to his question in the form of a blue notification.

[Detecting that this week will focus on the past during which the host wasn't present. Hence, this week's episode is canceled.]

[Compensation package being formulated.]

[Would like to receive a compensation package?]

[Yes/No]

Ryan clicked Yes, after all. Who would click on No? The fact it was an option itself felt like a cheap attempt by the system so that he might, by mistake, click No.

[Compensation package unboxing: 10,000 points received.]

Ryan felt sad that he could only receive 10,000 points for today's episode. If he were allowed to participate, he would earn double or more.

Ryan only told himself one thing that allowed him to calm down.

Ryan – "Anything is better than nothing. I should be happy that I got something. Otherwise, knowing this cheap system, he could easily give me nothing, and I couldn't do anything about it."

[The system has decided to ban the words "cheap system." If the host fails to comply, system points will be deducted as punishment.]

Ryan was left Speechless by this new 3D chess move by the system. Not only could he not call out the system, but he would also get punished if he did.

In essence, the system could ban all insults, and when he insulted the system out of habit, the system would make money.

Ryan – "I am sure a capitalist made this greedy system."

[The term "Greedy system" is now banned.]

Seeing things goes as expected, Ryan calmed himself and asked,

"So traveling to a flashback or an episode in the past is impossible?"

[No host can enter flashbacks with the latest update, but he can only go back to a time he was present in.]

Ryan – "Although it is useless, I guess appearing mysteriously in flashbacks will probably be useful somewhere down the line."

After this notification, Ryan, for once, had a regular Wednesday where he wasn't constantly trying to earn points and felt quite relaxed.

During this chill day, Ryan also realized that he was putting too much effort into plot days and that he should go with the episode's flow instead of pre-planning every move ahead.

After all, why was he so eager to earn points to get shows and movies? It was to make money.

Then again, was he lacking in money? The answer No he was already pretty wealthy, not to mention if you count his father's money, he is practically a billionaire.

So earning money and points wasn't so important. It was more important to have fun and enjoy the episode's plot instead of constantly trying to do this and that.

Maybe a relaxed approach would also give him more room for new ideas. He could even turn the plot upside down and earn more points.

Hence began the journey of a chill Ryan who did whatever he wanted during plot episodes.

(Author's Note: I know people have requested that I do fewer system interactions, but the above information is vital as I have now given Ryan the power to pop up in random flashbacks.)
