Mauve walked with Jael as they made their way up the staircase after the last meal. The meal had gone off without a hitch. Well, if something had been wrong, she didn't notice.
They soon got to the top of the stairs, the floor where their rooms were located, and Mauve stopped walking. She turned to look at Jael. "You don't have to go with me to the rooftop," she said, trying to pull her hand out of Jael's grip, but he didn't let her.
"There is still a couple of minutes before dawn, and Jean should be here any minute now. I am not leaving you alone until he is here," he replied, his gaze unwavering.
Mauve knew she wouldn't be able to sway him, and frankly, that wasn't what she wanted to do anyway. She just didn't want him to get caught in the sun.
She nodded and said with a sigh, admitting her defeat, "As you like."
"Glad we can come to an agreement," he said and started walking again, pulling Mauve with him.
