"Landon," she said, her voice as cold as the stone walls that surrounded them. "What brings you here at this hour?"

He didn't waste any time beating around the bush. "I know what you and the prophet have been planning, Rina. I know you want me dead and you want to take my place as the Emperor of Ancorna."

Rina raised an eyebrow. "And what if I do?" she said, her voice dripping with venom. "You know as well as I do that I have always been more suited to rule this empire than you ever were."

Landon sighed, his heart breaking at the realization that his own sister could be so ruthless. "I'm not here to argue with you, Rina," he said, his voice firm. "I'm here to give you this."

He handed her a formal letter, embossed with the royal seal. Rina's eyes widened as she read its contents.

"I'm stepping down, Rina," Landon said, his voice barely above a whisper. "You can have the throne. But there's one condition."
