Kapitel 229: Chapter 34 Dead end
A few days have passed since Licht left for High Sand. He met various predators which was bad luck, but luckily they were powerful enough to overwhelm them.
" High Sand is there. I don't like visiting this place due to its problems, but we don't have much choice."
Qattara spoke with a serious face because she was a mercenary who traveled through the entire continent. She knew the internal situation of High Sand and believed this city was corrupt because the governor was obviously in cahoots with scavengers who were different from raiders. Scavengers were a large group of criminals that targeted every single living being for their selfish purposes and orders would try to root them. However, this was the problem since they were cockroaches that survived the order hunts that included the most powerful beings in existence like paladin captains, champions of churches, and apostles.
" This city is bad news for normal folks. I don't recommend visiting it normally. So, I will explain it briefly. This is a city where sandstone is produced but the mayor of this city is corrupted. Although I can't prove he is corrupt, the city is basically in a dead zone due to the lavish life of the mayor. The kingdom closes its eyes due to the importance of sandstone."
She clicked her tongue when she thought about that old pig mayor. The kingdom had no way to intervene in their affairs and they couldn't invade their affiliates without any proper reason.
" Sounds rough. Should we bring Scorpio, Chono, and Sunny inside? I am pretty sure that we will be arrested."
Daemon folded his arms to show his perplexed face and he was right. No one in their right mind would allow a royal scorpion, divine wolf, and sun hawk to enter the city without any certificate.
" You are right. We have to leave them here. I think they can fend off themselves without us."
Qattara spoke calmly, looking at the young fellows. She noticed they were listening to their conversation and the wolf seemed to be looking at her with despise like he was saying you would be dead without me.
Her mouth twitched when she saw the haughty wolf but she couldn't do anything because this guy was a divine beast. He was smart like a human and he was powerful.
" Kyuu!"
The sun hawk pecked Licht's head, gesturing them to move because she was able to fly which meant she could communicate with him and this wouldn't be strange.
" Chono, I will leave the younglings to you. Notify me when something gets out of your paws."
Licht petted his partner's head, signaling Lisha and others. Lisha gently sat down as she gave her last jerky to the kids, leaving them with a reluctant face.
They reached High Sand in an hour as they climbed through the sandstone. The city gate welcomed them wide open and not-so-friendly guards was standing there with the most annoyed faces.
" Mercenaries, huh? Last ones made quite a trouble inside and now even more?"
He checked Qattara's ID while mumbling in a low voice which was overheard by Licht. This made Licht feel deja vu for some reason because he could only possibly have troublemakers in his mind. He shook his head with denial, thinking he was imagining things.
" Don't make trouble. I had enough of you, mercenaries."
The guard gave back her card while warning them to be careful.
" Sure. It is not like I don't know this place."
Qattara smiled lightly, handing him a few coins for handling professionally which made the guard light up.
Like Regina and others, they too were welcomed by the stench. Especially, Daemon who had the most developed sense almost passed out with a purple face. He even threw up in the corner after smelling the foul smell of shit in the street.
" Fuck! Don't they clean the streets? I am dying vice-captain."
Licht silently handed him a fragrance pouch which he bought from the black market. The gentle smell of flowers eased his expression as they proceeded to the center of the city, believing Regina was there.

Suddenly, a little hand grabbed Licht's hand. Unlike other people in the street, it was a clean hand that seemingly washed recently.
" Mister, do you know Miss Regina?"
