Kapitel 24: I Won't Eat My Meals if You Don't Let Me Buy It

Wen Ran walked over with her sugar figurine in hand and looked blankly at Shen Wu before asking coldly, "You complained that I was a big eater and yet you're buying all these steamed buns?"

Shen Wu still maintained his indifferent, polite, and gentlemanly demeanor. "Ranran," he said in a gentle voice, "this old gentleman is still here even though it's almost noon."

Steamed buns were usually breakfast food, but the old man had not gone home yet even though it was already noon. The only conclusion is that business was bad for him.

Wen Ran looked at the old man. The wrinkles on his face were like deep ravines and his hands were full of calluses. His face had also turned red due to the prolonged hours under the sun.

Wen Ran looked at Shen Wu suspiciously again. Although she was surprised that there would be times when he would be so happy to help others, she could no longer chastise him for spending so much money on so many steamed buns.

Shen Wu, who was holding a steamed bun, suddenly froze.

"What's the matter?" Wen Ran asked.

He turned around, and even the white straw hat that obscured his face was unable to cover the innocent look he was directing toward her.

"I can't fit any more of these buns," he said.

What he meant by that was his storage space was already full.

Wen Ran could not believe what she heard. "You're kidding, right?"

Old Wen previously gave her and Shen Wu a bracelet and a jade pendant, respectively. Although they were small, the space inside those magical items was at least the size of three rooms and two halls. Although Wen Ran brought a lot of things, she never once managed to fill the space completely.

Shen Wu tilted his head slightly again. Despite not being able to see his expression, one could feel the helplessness that was radiating from his body.

Wen Ran had been tricked by him countless times and she was not going to believe him that quickly. She stretched her finger, touched the jade pendant hanging on his waist, and released her spiritual power. Generally speaking, magic equipment that had recognized its master would allow other people to explore it unless that other person had a higher level of cultivation.

Wen Ran's cultivation was not as high as Shen Wu's of course, but since Shen Wu did not reject her, Wen Ran saw the situation within the jade pendant's space after releasing her burst of spiritual energy.

She was stunned by what she discovered.

The large space was filled to the brim with stuff, including the steamed buns he had just put in, a myriad of plants she did not recognize, and a plethora of wild fruits. Among the pile of wild fruits was the little red fruit that she had tasted earlier. That red fruit was so sour that Wen Ran felt like her teeth was being corroded, yet he seemed to eat it with relish. She hardly expected that so much red fruit would be stored in it.

As she looked at the piles of green plants, Wen Ran suspected that they were also edible. Tastewise, she was certain that they did not taste good.

Wen Ran looked at Shen Wu with a shocked expression. "Are you a hamster?"

Shen Wu was at a loss. "Do I look like a demonic rat?"

"Why are you storing so many wild fruits and vegetables?"

"I'm worried I'll go hungry."

Wen Ran could not understand how his mind worked. "Even if that's the case, you should've stored some normal food, rather than those unpalatable fruits."

"It's not like they're poisonous. What's to stop me from eating them?"

She felt that there seemed to be a generational gap between them. Wen Ran frowned, and she wondered why she never noticed that Shen Wu loved eating.

"Do you still want the remaining steamed buns, Young Master?" the old man asked nervously.

Shen Wu looked at Wen Ran without answering.

Wen Ran gritted her teeth and said, "We'll take them." The remaining steamed buns were all placed into her storage space, which seemed quite out of place when viewed alongside her pile of clothes and jewelry.

After Wen Ran stored the steamed buns, she finally realized what was really going on and stopped to narrow her eyes at Shen Wu. "Did you really decide to buy all the steamed buns because you were trying to be nice?"

Shen Wu, who was currently eating a steamed bun, was puzzled. "Nice?"

"Didn't you buy all the steamed buns because you felt sorry that the old man had been at his stall since morning?"

"Is that what you thought, Ranran?" The young man's voice had an innocent touch of cheeriness to it. "The weather is getting hotter and hotter, so I bought the buns before they went bad. You're gonna get diarrhea if you eat a spoiled bun."

It was all for the sake of the steamed bun. After all, steamed buns were filling and easy to carry around. It had nothing to do with helping the old man.

Wen Ran, who had previously thought that Shen Wu might not be that evil, began to feel as if she was some kind of idiot.

She bit down on the crunchy sugar figurine as if she was biting someone with all her might.

As she walked, she noticed that the figure beside her had disappeared yet again. Wen Ran immediately turned around and saw Shen Wu's figure in front of a nearby stall.

The stall sold little toys, such as cloth tigers, puppets, and other little toys that children liked.

When the peddler saw that Shen Wu was standing there motionlessly, he immediately shook the rattle-drum in his hand and said with a smile, "These are all good quality items! Would you like to buy some and bring them back for your child?"

Shen Wu nodded. "Yes."

Wen Ran rushed over and stopped him from taking out the money. She smiled and asked, "When did you have a child?"

He laughed too. "You're still a young girl, Ranran. Doesn't that make you a child?"

"I suppose you're going to tell me that you bought this for me?"

"Yup," he said, pretending to be serious. "I'll try it out for you and see if it's fun."

He was just about to withdraw his hand from her grip to make payment, but Wen Ran held his hand down and reminded him in a low voice, "We haven't even reached the Hidden Abyss Valley and we've already spent a lot of money. We need to control ourselves."

After saying that, she dragged Shen Wu and walked forward. The last time she played with something like a rattle-drum was when she was three; there was really no point wasting that money now that she was already an adult.

Shen Wu dragged his feet and kept turning around, seemingly reluctant to part with that rattle-drum.

A child by the roadside cried in front of a pastry shop, "Mom! I want to eat this one! I won't eat my meals if you don't buy this for me!"

The mother's hand was being pulled by her child and she said in a frustrated tone, "Okay, okay. Stop shouting. I'll buy it for you, okay?"

The child's stopped crying and smiled at once. He pulled his mother's hand and hurried into the pastry shop.

Shen Wu suddenly stopped walking.

Wen Ran could not pull him anymore, and she had a bad feeling when she looked up at him.

He must have been building up his emotions because he remained silent for a moment before speaking pitifully, "I want that, Ranran. I won't eat my meals if you don't let me buy it."

He looked even more dejected than the crying child.

The passers-by cast curious gazes over.

Wen Ran covered her face with her hands and felt utterly embarrassed!
