Kapitel 34: Chapter 34 : Madness to chuunis

Mr. Fool anxiously looked at Xin Jian, but she didn't answer.

After a few seconds, she glanced at Him and opened her mouth :

« Right, I should drop the "Him" now. »

Mr. Fool took a while to understand.

At least, it can be verified that Xin Jian's thought process is as incomprehensible as always.

He finally asked :

« …Why ? »

She explained as if it was obvious.

« New Mr. Fool : less divinity -> more humanity. Conclusion : can no longer be called "Him". »

Don't tell your thoughts literally, at least make sentences !

Mr. Fool covered His forehead.

It seems that Xin Jian's laziness now affected how she spoke.

Well, she still gave a "detailed" explanation, that's already good…

So she answered this question but not the previous one ? That's called selectively ignoring things !

Mr. Fool sighed and realized something.

Xin Jian's non-attachement to her life, that was already another common point with 'Her'…

He remembered a memory from the past.

[Mr. Fool looked at 'Her' lying on the ground and heard 'Her' ethereal voice.

« Zhou Mingrui, I'm tired. »

He squatted down.

« …Me too. »

'She' had 'Her' usual smile on 'Her' face.

« I want to die. »

Mr. Fool stayed silent.

A few seconds passed until He finally answered.

« …I know. »

'She' glanced at Him.

« I'm sorry. »

He lowered His gaze as 'She' continued.

« I'm sorry to leave you alone here. »

He opened His mouth.

"Then don't leave." He thought.

But in the end, He didn't say anything.

It was the first time that 'She' expressed 'Her' true feelings.

Mr. Fool realized that if He was in 'Her' place, He would also have wanted to die.

It was obvious.

So obvious that nobody seemed to have noticed it until now.

Or maybe they just turned a blind eye to it ?

'She' had been His best friend since He went down from Sefirah Castle in the Second Epoch.

It had already been so long…

He said :

« …Won't it hurt ? »

'She' chuckled.

« Zhou Mingrui, it has always hurt. Now I don't even feel it anymore… »

He bit His lips.

Mr. Fool forced a smile and announced :

« Don't worry, I'll always remember that gods are hypocritical b*stards. »

'She' looked at Him and muttered in a low voice.

« Don't hate the gods too much. In the end, they felt remorseful, didn't they ? »

How could gods feel remorseful ?

He didn't believe it.

Seeing that He was not convinced, 'She' added :

« Imagine that I die and I forgave Them for what They did, won't They feel awful ? Then you will be able to see Them regret it and suffer~. It's better like that, isn't it ? »

He wanted to retort that it could only apply to gods who still had humanity but continued to listen.

« And don't blame Amanises. Amanises is kind and pretty. You two should really get married. »

Mr. Fool choked.

Where did that come from ?!

« But you're kind and pretty too. »

'She' looked at me with a strange gaze.

« …I won't comment on whether I'm kind and pretty, but does that mean you could marry me too ? »

Mr. Fool realized the ambiguousness in His words but wasn't flustered, He was already used to 'Her' speaking like this since long ago.

He retorted :

« Nobody will marry anyone here. But if you stay maybe I could consider it ? »

She turned 'Her' gaze away.

« No, thank you. »

There was silence for a while until 'She' spoke up.

« Hmm… Tomorrow, I will wake up as usual. Then, we will chat together again. In the afternoon, you'll drag me out to see the other gods you oh-so detest, which is really contradictory. Then Medici will try to prank me again. In the evening, we will watch Amon creating another mess while you will twitch your lips as usual and lampoon in your head. When I'll see this, I will ask you what you think… »

'She' began to describe the future, as if 'She' didn't intend to die.

Mr. Fool smiled a little then made a sad expression.

« …Why are you speaking about something that won't happen ? »

She answered :

« I don't want to be disappointed. »

'She' was immortal.

'She' had to be prepared in case 'She' failed.

Mr. Fool lowered His gaze.

Can you still feel disappointed anymore ?

Maybe 'She' realized that Mr. Fool was trying to stall for time, so 'She' said :

« Time is up. »

His heart tightened.

He decided to act as if they would see each other again too.

« …This is farewell, then. »

He smiled, not wanting to give 'Her' any regrets before 'She' left this world.

He smiled brightly.

'She' mirrored His smile.

« Yes, farewell. »

'She' then began to cut 'Her' soul to pieces bit by bit, while making sure that the pieces couldn't converge ever again.

Mr. Fool knew that it must have been very painful, but 'She' didn't even flinch.

'She' looked at Him.

« Zhou Mingrui. »

« Yes ? »

'She' hesitated, swallowing to apologie 'She' was about to say.

'She' didn't want to give Him any regrets either.

« Thank you. »

So 'She' thanked Him.

It was "Thank you" for being 'Her' friend.

"Thank you" for having stayed by 'Her' side all this time…

« For what ? »

Mr. Fool's voice trembled as He asked this. 'She' was about to disappear.

'Her' ethereal voice left behind these words.

« For everything. »

Mr. Fool stayed silent for a while, all alone.

He knew that He shouldn't hope for 'Her' to fail. It was 'Her' choice, and He respected it.

'She' was dead now…

Mr. Fool covered His face.

After all this time experiencing the cruelty of this world, His only wish was for them to stay together.

Life was easier to bear when He was with 'Her'. 'She' was His best friend…

He sighed.

« I want to rest… »

He stood up and felt Amanises coming His way.

Amanises asked.

« Where is 'She' ? »

Mr. Fool turned around, His gaze lowered.

In a low voice, He finally answered.

« …'She' annihilated 'Her' soul, 'She' cut it into pieces. 'She' is dead. »

He would respect 'Her' will and accept it.

He observed Amanises reaction.

Amanises was closer to 'Her' than the other gods and angels.

To say the truth, nearly every god or angel that knew 'Her' was 'Her' friend.

For this reason, the Nameless Angel was often called "the gods' friend".

Mr. Fool, no, the Miracle Angel didn't really hate the gods. He was their friend too.

He just felt angry with their behavior towards the Nameless Angel.

Did they really think that becoming 'Her' friend would erase what They did in the past ?

Amanises froze.

She stayed silent for a while.

« …What will you do now ? »

The Miracle Angel looked at Her with tired eyes.

« I will hung myself above Sefirah Castle and come out when the time is right. I'll separate my Beyonder characteristics and leave them here. »

But it would also be good if He never woke up…

« …I'm tired. I need a break. »

The Miracle Angel walked away.

That was the day when the number of kings of angels became 8.

(Author : The Nameless Angel was counted as a king of angels only by Zhou Mingrui and Amanises. When Zhou Mingrui disappeared from everyone's memory, Amanises stopped insisting on this matter and the other angels naturally only counted 8 kings of angels. After all, the Nameless Angel's condition was special, 'She' wasn't really a king of angels.)]

(Author : Now that Xin Jian dropped the "Him", we will use "him" for Mr. Fool.)

Xin Jian, who could hear Mr. Fool's thoughts, (and was influenced by madness to say her own thoughts out loud), deadpanned.

« Mr. Fool, why are you suddenly imagining a drama in your head ? You should become a writer. »

He frowned.

Mr. Fool began to doubt something but soon denied the possibility.

He shook his head.

She couldn't really be able to read his thoughts, right ?

(Lol.)

There was only silence above the gray fog, until Xin Jian disturbed that silence once again.

« Mr. Fool, I was wrong. »

Mr. Fool turned his head to Xin Jian.

He knew that she shouldn't be admitting that what she did was a mistake, but speaking about something completely unrelated to her previous remark, since that was generally how Xin Jian's thoughts worked.

She sighed.

« Being crazy doesn't make living easier… »

Mr. Fool's heart tightened.

He lowered his head.

If, only if, Xin Jian was really a part of the Nameless Angel that fused with the Error Uniqueness and became a living characteristic.

If Xin Jian was really the Nameless Angel, then…

Mr. Fool clenched his fist.

That would be too sad…

After all, Xin Jian wasn't leading an easy life right now. Mentally, it was obvious that she suffered from loneliness, anxiety and the fear that others would leave her. She seemed too desperate.

If Xin Jian was really the Nameless Angel who had failed to die, then it would be too sad for her.

Mr. Fool sighed.

Xin Jian and the Nameless Angel were very different, but they were also too similar.

Xin Jian saw Mr. Fool looking at her with pity.

(Xin Jian : What the-)

« …If think I may have left you too much humanity. You're thinking about weird things now. » She muttered.

Hearing this, Mr. Fool also practiced the method of "selectively ignoring things" and ignored her words.

At least, Xin Jian didn't seem overwhelmed by madness.

—————— I am the dividing line~

The next day, Klein, who thought that Leonard may have questions to ask him (for example, about the fact that he was supposed to be dead), used divination to find him.

(The reason why Xin Jian couldn't find Leonard with divination before was because Pallez disrupted it since He was chased by Amon.)

Unexpectedly, Leonard had moved away from 7 Pinster Street.

When he heard a knock on the door, Leonard went to open and was stunned to see Klein standing there.

(Yes, Klein, not Gehrman.)

Leonard didn't find his words for a moment.

Klein smiled to him.

« Can I come in ? I think you should have a lot of questions. »

Being closer to his dear poet in this life, Klein naturally didn't mind giving him an explanation.

Leonard stepped back and Klein acted as if he was home, entering and sitting on the sofa.

Leonard sat next to him, his legs crossed.

Klein looked at him.

« Is there anything you want to ask ? »

Leonard nodded.

« Weren't you dead ? »

« Well, the Sequence 2 of the Seer Pathway is called Miracle Invoker so I resurrected. Any other questions ? »

Leonard faltered and took a while to digest the information.

Apparently, Klein had inherited Xin Jian's habit to drop bombs (even though the latter did it to persecute people).

« …Why didn't you come back to the Church ? »

Instead of giving his usual gay and deep speech of "I can't come back.", he continued to smile.

« I don't trust the goddess. »

A believer doesn't trust their own gods.

Klein is beginning to win back the title of blasphemer.

Leonard was shocked.

« But, but- »

Pallez cut him off.

« Tsk. If you had at least one third of the common sense of your colleague… »

Believe in the power of the gods, but not in their kindness.

Leonard : But, but…

Little rabbit doesn't understand.jpg

The cat-, I mean, Klein, looked at him calmly.

He suddenly remembered something.

« Where did you bury Daly ? »

Leonard stayed silent for a moment.

« …I saw Xin Jian take away her corpse when I was unconscious before. »

(Traduction : I didn't bury her.)

Klein : …

Noticing the contradiction in his words, Klein asked :

« Why are you saying that you saw her do this if you were unconscious ? »

« … »

Leonard raised his gaze then slowly avoided Klein's eyes.

Klein instantly understood what happened. Xin Jian should have teased him and he was too embarrassed to face her so he faked being unconscious.

However, Klein felt that it was not all.

Leonard finally decided to speak up.

« Klein… About what I said before… You know, whatever Xin Jian told you, I was in a half-conscious state. »

« No, I don't know. »

Klein didn't know what Leonard was talking about but understood that Xin Jian's persecution seemed to be related to him.

Did Leonard say ambiguous things in a half-conscious state so Xin Jian took advantage of it and said that she would repeat it to him ?

Unexpectedly, Klein's guess hit the mark.

Meanwhile, Leonard began to suspect that Xin Jian had tricked him and had never intended to repeat what he said to Klein.

Congratulations, you have both arrived to the right conclusion.

However, there is no prize.

—————— I am the dividing line~

Meanwhile, Xin Jian was teaching Audrey.

Keeping a notebook with Mr. Fool's teachings is very useful to prepare Audrey's lessons.jpg

Xin Jian who was speaking while looking at Audrey, had noticed that Audrey felt sleepy listening to her monotone voice and made serious expression.

You're pretty, you're forgiven.jpg

« Audrey, what do you think of war ? »

Audrey also focused once again and recalled the question.

« I think it is bad. »

Okay, goodbye !

Xin Jian felt that it was already a bad beginning for her plan but was not discouraged.

Ha ! Giving up is for self-centered people !

(Author : But you gave up standing up this morning-

Xin Jian : And I AM a self-centered person. *proud.jpg*

Author : …Me too ! So let's give up writing this !

Xin Jian : Damn, I should find another adjective…

Conclusion : In the end, the author won the argument. (finally))

…Giving up is for narcissistic people !

While Xin Jian wondered if she was narcissistic in that case (thought about bullshit), Audrey looked at her teacher who had forgotten that they were in the middle of a conversation.

Then Xin Jian saw Audrey waiting in front of her.

…Ahem.

So war, was it ?

« No, Audrey. Wars are not necessarily bad, they can also be used to make reforms. Sometimes, they are even necessary to change things. »

Pretending to be knowledgeable.jpg

Now let's do an introduction-argumentation-conclusion.

You know ? These redactions where the introduction tells the idea, the argumentation is out of context and the conclusion is completely unrelated to the argumentation. Isn't it what the teachers ask for anyway ?

Then you feel like the teacher gave you a random note instead of zero because at least you wrote 30 lines.

Then there's the french teacher who gives you a 7/20 and, as a comment, DARES to write "readable and pleasant writing, thank you" !

Give me a better grade if you're thankful ! Aren't correctors supposed to be subjective anyway ?!

Ahem.

Xin Jian was distracted again.

(Author : Such a detailed story, are you sure it's just an example ?)

Fortunately, Xin Jian thought fast and the conversation wasn't interrupted.

Audrey nodded.

« Wars are begun by people who fight for their ideals, for example, anti-colonial wars. There could also be a civil war to overthrow the different classes and abolish the nobles' titles to make everyone equal. In truth, why are wars that bad ? »

Xin Jian gave Audrey an inquisitive gaze to show that it was not a rhetorical question.

Now, let's pervert Audrey to become a bloodthirsty maniac…

Or just a young noble obsessed with wars and trying to start one by manipulating people. Lol, this hobby would go well with George III's interests.

Xin Jian's thoughts went astray again.

This should be the side effect from saying smart things ! (bullshit)

(Author : *Trying to make Xin Jian say convincing and logical things while being tired*

-> Xin Jian : *distracted*

Author : Xin Jian, I understand you !

Result : The author finally understood why Xin Jian always thought bullshit in the middle of a conversation.

Conclusion : Fatigue -> thoughts are uncontrollable -> Xin Jian is just tired.

Second conclusion : Being tired is beneficial to writing bullshit. UwU

Author : *feeling complicated*)

Fortunately, Audrey didn't notice anything (thanks to Xin Jian's amazing self-control) and answered.

« …It's because innocents are involved. »

Damn, I had not thought of this. What should I do now ? (joke) (wait, no, it's true)

Xin Jian nodded as if there was nothing wrong.

« Fine, so wars are bad because innocents are killed ? »

Audrey agreed.

Xin Jian has applied the method twist-your-words-to-make-them-fit-the-situation.

Xin Jian's naming style is as (unoriginal) explicit as ever.

Xin Jian took out a file (written because of memory problems).

« Actually, I intend to start a war where nobody will die. Here are the details. Could you tell me if there are any problems with the plan ? And do you to help ? You could take advantage of it to reduce to gap between social classes and help those in need. »

Of course, please do it by yourself.

Xin Jian, professional bullshiter at your service !

That's how Xin Jian made Audrey help her with the bloodless war.

After that, she left.

She planned to start the bloodless war in the next few days.

« Mr. Fool, next destination : Leonard ! »

Through the crimson stars, Mr. Fool had deducted where Leonard was living now.

So The Fool GPS was activated once again !

(Mr. Fool : The Fool GPS is running out of battery.

Xin jian : Then let's change person !

Amanises : Not me. I am overworked.

Xin Jian : There are still Lilith and Leodoro.

By the time Xin Jian arrived, Klein had left.

Before knocking on the door, she pulled out some historical projections.

Knock knock knock.

Leonard came to the door and opened it.

« … »

Xin Jian smiled.

« Won't you make me enter ? »

He stepped back.

« …Xin Jian, what happened to your eye ? »

She had put on an eye patch.

She touched it.

« Ah, that ? »

Xin Jian suddenly yelled.

« Ah ! My evil eye ! »

Leonard was startled.

She also touched her bandaged arm.

« I feel that the force of the dragon is awakening within me ! No, I have to seal it back ! If this force is let out, it could destroy the world ! »

Above the gray, Mr. Fool was choking.

After Xin Jian successfully saved the world by sealing back the force of the dragon, she bade Leonard farewell.

« I did it. Now the world is safe. Goodbye~. »

And she left.

Leonard stood still, unmoving.

Leonard : …So what did she come here for ?

Suddenly, Leonard's "I am the protagonist of the times" wasn't that big of a deal.

After taking off her eye patch and the bandages, Xin Jian went above the gray fog.

Mr. Fool, who finally recovered from the shock, asked weakly:

« What was that ? »

Xin Jian blinked innocently.

« I wanted to create a club of chuunis. »

Technical explanation :

Chuuni, also called chuunibyou is a Japanese term. They can be broadly categorized into three types :

- the ones who pretend to be delinquents

- the ones pretending to be part of a culture despite not actually knowing anything about it (ex : a teenager's goth phase)

- and the delusional type who will try to convince you that they can have special or supernatural abilities (stereotypically a magical eye under a surgical eyepatch, or an evil hand which they grasp in supposed pain).

Leonard was acting like a chuuni + Xin Jian acted like a chuuni = let's form a club of chuunis !

Xin Jian continued, thoughtful :

« Why, should I make Klein join too ? »

Mr. Fool imagined Klein dressed and acting like a delinquent while bragging about gang fights with Leonard and Xin Jian in chuuni-mode.

« Pfft- »

Except that Klein would have really fought against bad guys (and won)…

Xin Jian smiled.

Xin Jian : I made Mr. Fool laugh !
