As she had entered to watch the forging process, she caught the sight of many workers who were hammering at the metal slabs that had just come from the forges.
The extreme heat had filled the room so many had worn nothing on their upper bodies while some had worn a thin vest or work apron.
The sounds of hammers meeting hot metal was sent throughout the room and they each followed their own rhythm.
The man walked by her side and said calmly. "You can find a place to sit and observe for now. I will tell you once I have begun."
Blush nodded as she had found a location where nobody was sitting around and was an open space.
She listened and watched as she was taking in the information around her.
She could hear the differences in the power used, the breathes taken by the blacksmiths as they hammered the metal, the timing between each strike and she could see each of their forms as they swung downward.
Each of their techniques had been memorised and she had already started processing their techniques.
The ores were originally placed in the forges and turned to liquid before they were poured into a mould and cheap weapons were made that way with a little tempering and sharpening but most had been made into bars.
Through many cycles of heating and cooling to help bind the molecules of the metal, with every cycle the metal is hammered into the desired shape and with every tempering cycle the metal shape will become much stronger.
Just like a baker folds the dough to smooth lumps into a loaf of bread, swordsmiths use folding to infuse strength into the swords.
When a heated piece of iron is folded, its molecules bind together to create added strength properties.
Folding can be performed with a singular piece of iron, or with differing metals.
The result of folding is a tempered alloy that is exponentially stronger with an enhanced construction and honing potential.
Then there were other steps to be taken to ensure that the final design was completed like doing engraving, sanding or the grinding of the sword to finish the overall shape and ensure its sharpness.
Blush had watched some forging documentaries and weaponsmith youtubers who forged fantasy based weapons from scratch and she had her own scientific knowledge to back her up so as she stretched out her hand, a wave of information started entering her brain.
Her mana had spread out around each active person who was working and it was formed from the spell she had cast on each of them and the metals they were working on.
She continued to observe the process of their technique along the the reaction of the metals and she was able to see which person was using the better methods.
Some had better timing while others had better control over their strength so she was able to notice the differences but others were more precise as they hammered each part accurately and did not miss an area during the tempering process so there were no weak areas.
She sat in meditation to provide herself a better mental state and she slowly started diving deeper with her mana as the investigation went towards the heated pieces of metal that were being tempered.
Deeper and deeper she went and she could detect the heat of the metals with her mana as the information had flooded her along with each of the states of the metals.
She could tell which was improving at a faster rate and which person was better at forging so she kept diving deeper.
Eventually she found herself seeing the tiny molecules during the process.
Less activity was on the cooled metals as they were more bonded and showed less activity but the heated metals had shown more activity, as they were struck they had started to be bind the molecules at a better rate and the metals were gradually cooling which eventually reached a point that further tempering was not going to be effective so it had to be reheated.
She was able to carefully pinpoint each advantage and flaw of each technique from the large amount of information that was flooding her brain which had formed her own understanding of the chemical reactions during forging.
Her first time witnessing forging up close was an interesting thing to happen and she was slowly deactivating the spell on those that she had found nothing else to gain from and had too many flaws so that she could save her mana.
She was able to effectively steal their form, breathing pattern, timing, strength distribution, the angle of the strike and then form her own understanding of them.
That understanding of the information that she had gained was slowly undergoing trial and error with every passing moment as she continued to observe the remaining people.
Her brain was processing and analysing everything at a high speed which was going to make her mentally tired but luckily she was in a meditative state to reduce that.
Slowly her own understanding of forging and metals was being built which would be far above many of the experienced blacksmiths who were working tirelessly on their technique.
She already could feel that she could point out the flaws of many within the room that could improve their forging to a whole new level if they had corrected some of their minor habits.
The man had returned and he waved towards her. "Come and watch."
A little time had passed as he had started but Blush had kept backseat forging.
"Adjust your arm angle a little to the right."
"A little higher and keep the strength you are using."
"Good rhythm but reduce the timing between the strikes a tiny bit."
"Faster."
"Gone over, slower a little bit."
"Strike more in that area as it needs more work."
"Hit a little to the left."
"The balance will be off if you keep hitting there, go up."
"If you keep hitting here then the sword will be brittle if hit in this location, move to the right a little."
"It is thin enough already, now we should be closer to the correct length and shape."
The man showed a look of annoyance but he soon found that his form was improving and his movements had become more efficient as less of his own energy was wasted but he was able to carefully make the metal stronger than he had before.
After a long time of forging the sword, the guard and the hilt, he was surprised by the end result. "This is the best one that I have ever made.. kid you have talent! Why don't you come work here? We can provide you with anything you will need! Just stick around and help us improve our craft and you can gain experience of your own."
Blush yawned. "I need a place to stay that is suitable for a young girl. I do not like being disturbed and if I do join then I will only ever accept a couple of jobs a day."
She had time for forging and alchemy but they would be draining on her mana the more that she relied on it before she had gotten the techniques ingrained into her body and instincts.
Forging would help improve her stamina and body strength but she still required a method to work on her overall core strength since her body was now in a better state to endure harsher training and activity so she started to consider some of the harsher methods used by Master Roshi like training with weights, rocks and other things.
Soon a two handed longsword was in front of her which had a diamond edge and had a two sided blade edge.
The sword was not overly broad and long as it had been created to be carried on her ten year old back and be used to provide her a better reach for thrusting and cutting with one handed or two handed sword strikes.
It was not overly heavy so it allowed her to be able to wield it in one hand if needed but it was primarily for two handed combat, the option to switch between the styles of use was useful for freeing a hand for the use of magic or ki moves so she had chosen it carefully.
Blush was invited to join the blacksmith as an honorary member as they would guide her during her learning but they would soon come to regret their decision as when she had picked up a hammer, she had shown a frightening speed of improvement to her techniques and created an even stronger weapon than what a beginner should be capable of producing in their first attempts but she also experienced a great amount of growth through each experience.
Her main issue was that she could not yet produce many weapons or work on a larger project so she had started with a small dagger due to her lower stamina and lack of experience.
If she did it again then she may even be able to make an improved version or attempt something harder.
Meanwhile the herb and medicine store was in an upheaval as someone important within had scolded their disciple for being a fool then had sent people to search for Blush due to her talents at such a young age.
If Blush could learn blacksmithing that was more unfamiliar with her in a short time then something like dealing with herbs should be much easier especially since she had spent so much of her time alone honing her techniques.
With her mana observation spell, she was able to learn how to master something much quicker and work out the flaws but it still required her body to adjust to the techniques over time so she was better suited as a teacher or someone to point out flaws until she herself was able to learn them with her body and instincts.
Anyone in any kind of profession would greatly desire her talents but those talents had helped to provide her with a new home and a stable income while she works on improving herself and working on her other plans.
Through practicing her sword swings, forging and practicing horse stance along with other methods, she was slowly improving upon her weak body and techniques but she knew that she was lacking in terms of combat ability still so she needed to find a solution fast.
She had self defence knowledge but she lacked the experience against humans and she had only ever taken down small animals so far with a long staff with a blade on the end so she needed a safe environment to go through lots of experiences.
