Kapitel 41: Forty

It took a little while for my eyes to adjust to the level of brightness. Where am I? Why does everything seems so fuzzy? I take my view into consideration. Multi-coloured balloons, glass vases with a boutique of flowers and sealed boxes of expensive chocolates; parades around me. Giving off the feeling of a luxurious gift shop. But the constant peeping of a monitor, proofs otherwise. A disheveled man in a white coat, my doctor I presume, entered. Namjoon close on his heels. The highly educated male figure came closer, a warm smile upon his tired complexion. However, Namjoon didn't move from his spot in the doorway. Doctor nameless took a light out of his white coats' pocket start his physical examination. He shines the light into my eyes, asking me to follow momentarily. Peers it into my ears and lastly looked inside my mouth. He put his light away and continued with his exam. The Doctor pressed firmly yet gently upon my stomach and nodded. Took out his stethoscope and listened to my heart and lungs. After a trial of spontaneous breathing, he took me off of the ventilation system. "Everything seems remarkably good. Nothing to light the suspicion of any sort," he said in a deep voice, while writing something down in my file. I have this urge to ask him what happened, but fear if I do so, that he would schedule some more tests. I really do dislike hospitals, so I'd much rather get out of here as quickly as possible. I will just to ask Namjoon about it, when the Doctor is out of hearing distance. I really hope that he'll be able to shed some light on the matter ahead. "I would like to keep you overnight for observation and if there's no change in your condition by tomorrow, we could talk about sending you home," he said kindly. After that being said and done he left.

Slowly Namjoon inched closer to the bed. "Hey," I greeted him with a smile. Poorly he smiled back. "Are you okay, Namjoon?" I questioned. For a moment I could sworn that a heavy truck of luggage had been lifted from his shoulders, by the mentioning of his name. "You remember me!" He exclaimed slightly, confirming my suspicion to be correct. "Of course, why wouldn't I?" I asked in total confusion. "What can you remember?" His question struck me as odd, still I answered nonetheless. I own him that much for taking off without a word. "I came back from my visit to South Africa. A cab driver picked me up and took me home. Everything seems to be fuzzy after that," I confirmed. Namjoon sat down in the chair next to the bed, took my hand in his and sighed deeply. "You were in an accident, my dear," he informed me. As soon as the eight letter word tumbles over his lips, a flashback crossed my path. He gave my hand a tight squeeze. "I'm sorry to inform you, that the driver didn't survive the crash. It's a miracle that you did." For a second I felt like someone poured a bucket of ice water over my head. I lift my hand to touch the chain that's supposed to be around my neck. Nothing. Where's it? Have I lost it in the accident? Namjoon seemed to notice my Deer-in-the-headlight expression. Dug his free hand into his trousers' pockets and pull something out. Dangling from his fingers, I recognised the present that I've been given before leaving my birth country behind. He snaked his arm gently around my neck and fasten the chain. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth, followed by a lone tear. It's salty liquid kissing my left cheek. I wiped my thumb over the heart. A thought crept up: Had Mom really posed as my Guardian Angel? "I'm sorry," I whispered in a low tone. "Why are you apologizing, my dear?" I looked down at my hands, slightly figiting fingers. "For not informing you about the pregnancy," I answered. His eyes soften at my reply. To my complete surprise, Namjoon leaned in closer and placed a kiss upon my lips. How I've longed for this moment in time. His kiss! His touch! All of him.
