She's about twenty seven weeks into the pregnancy. Next week we'll be sharing our first Christmas together and I can hardly wait. Doctor Hanks informed us, a few days ago, that Sam isn't going to have a full term pregnancy. He booked her for a C-SECTION that isn't due until March next year. At the moment she and Abby went shopping, stating something in the line of never having to much presents. I have bigger fish to fry by gaining the courage for what Christmas holds in hand. I need to prepare myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I'm so nervous and it's still ten days away. Hopefully it would be a day worth remembering. Hopefully it won't blow up in my face. Every passing hour feels like an eternity!
We spent most of our time together, she and I, like one against the world. In a few hours I will be picking up my mother and sister from the airport. They wanted to join us for this Christmas. I have zero objections. The more the merrier I always say. I, however, will have to break the news to them about who Sam's father really is. He's been around a lot as of lately. Him not being a guest at our Christmas get together is unheard of. He'll undeniably be there! Mom knows about my big announcement and she couldn't be happier for me. Both of her nibblings and her friend would be present. Making me all the more nervous, just thinking about it. I finished wrapping up the box and put it into my drawer.
Slower than a sloth, lazing around in a tree after a day long nap, the days passed in a slow fashion. My mother didn't take the news to good and neither did my sister, but as I hoped; they don't hold her father's crimes against her. They don't particularly like the idea of him coming over on Christmas day, who can blame them, but promised; for the sake of Sam, to socialize. Even if he's the biggest terrorist that Asia had ever come to know. Sure it kind of seems like he might be turning a clean slate, but I'm still sleeping with one eye open. One can never be to careful.
I'm up before anybody else. The early bird gets the worm, the wise man said. Yesterday the woman prepared our Christmas meal, which kept them busy for most of the day. While they were busy doing what they did, me along with the other men arranged the presents around the 6ft tree. Tiredly we entered an early night. I put the late present underneath the Christmas tree. I'm so nervous that I can't even think straight. I know with absolute certainty that I'm doing the right thing, so my scattered nerves must be because of something else. Last night Sam decided to spend some time with her family and Abby at their apartment. At ten all of our guests have arrived. Sitting around the Christmas tree like one big happy family. Outside the earth is coated in a white fluffy substance. An addition to the perfect atmosphere.
After a few presents were opened in random, Jin-hyung nodded at me. I exhaled deeply, calming my senses before picking up the parcel and giving it to Sam. It didn't stand out amongst the others, seeing how we've decided not to wrap them up in an all Christmas theme. The box is nearly within the folds of shiny silver paper. A rose pink ribbon tied to a bow around it. She looks up at me, wide eyed, like a kid trapped in a candy store. "Marry Christmas, my love," I said and gave her a peck on the cheek. Carefully she undid the ribbon. Removing the paper followed gracefully, to be greeted by a white box. She took off the cover and stared down at the contents. Comfortably on a bed of silver confetti, lies an invincible Christmas ornament, filled out with rose pink banners. Charming sayings spelled out upon their tiny faces. Tangled up in a rose pink ribbon that's tied to the brim of the orb, is a spiral ring. Posing in all its glory, rose gold and silver. Sam covered her mouth in an open palm fashion as realisation struck her. The main banner asking the one question which had my nerves all tight up in a bundle: Will you marry me? Slowly she started nodding her head. Tears of happiness glistening in her eyes. I untangled the ring from the knot and slip it on to her finger. A perfect fit. For the most exquisite woman in the world. I had nothing to worry about, I thought as our lips connected in an amazing kiss. The perfect ending to our Korean affair.
