Surprisingly, after that awful meeting, neither Pearl nor Eric seemed to cross their paths again. For a couple of months, Florence could barely sleep without feeling like she was being watched and followed everywhere. But after a while, Scott convinced her that everything was fine now and she could finally relax and enjoy her pregnancy.

It took her a long time, but eventually, Florence managed to do just that. And it felt incredible. Motherhood suited her. Of course, she wouldn’t really feel what it was like to be a mother per se until the baby was born, but with all of the preparations, she could already anticipate the joy she’d feel when the moment finally arrived.

She could tell the same thing about Scott. That he’d be an amazing father was more than clear to her. But Florence couldn’t help being surprised by him every once in a while.
