Kapitel 132: A new resolve

"This is crazy," he thought. "I only met him yesterday, I can't risk my life for him. He is just getting to my head."

"Is this living?" Nibur's words echoed inside.

Diego was back in the shacks. Lights flickered from small stubs of candles left in the room. The smell of piss and shit lingered in the air. Men, women, and children groaned in pain and hunger. Diego could make out a man and a woman humping in the corner, trying to sink their despair with lust. In another corner, he saw a mother trying to feed her child and failing at it; milk didn't come from her breasts. The baby wailed in hunger.

"Is this living?" he muttered to himself.

How his family and he lived back in Everville was a struggle, but it was filled with its own joy. The lands were near barren, but it was rewarding to work and, finally cultivate. He remembered Rodriguez and Lorencia, his parents. He felt his stomach churn. Visions of that day came to his mind, visions he had tried to close in his heart.
