“What do you mean I have to wait?” I snapped at John. “I’ve waited long enough as it is while everyone pretended like nothing happened!”

It had been over three hours since Zale lost control and ran off into the wilds. I had expected everyone to mobilize with immediacy but Dianna and James had ordered us to act as if nothing had happened until all of Ebony’s guests had left.

“Pretending that nothing happened is what is keeping Zale from being ousted as Alpha, “ Johnny said tensely, “If the other packs found out about Zale’s…condition…they’d each try to take advantage of the situation whether it be to gain favor with the Carmine pack or to undermine it completely.”

Their argument was logical, but it was without heart. All these people cared about was politics and pack reputation. What about Zale? Out there and scared, most likely tearing himself apart over what had happened.
