To say that Hendery’s beloved blue truck was a death trap was an understatement. The sentimental value of the ancient vehicle was most likely the only thing that kept it within the May family.

While I hopped and bounced in my seat, bumping my head against the ceiling every couple of potholes, Adeline handled the beast with ease and barely flinched as the truck bucked and roared down the gravel road.

An hour’s drive led us into a small town with old buildings and cobbled streets. The way that it was nestled beneath the canopy of the surrounding forest, the town would be easy to miss if you did not know where to go.

“It’s beautiful here,” I said.

Addie smiled at my appreciation for her hometown. Truthfully I had never been anywhere that felt this old and magical. There was history here, one that it wore proudly and without the need to change. Unlike the culture of New York which constantly needed to grow and improve.
