Kapitel 10: Chapter 10: Proclaimed

"Alpha, we need you here!" Kaydon called me.

I put the bell in my pocket and ran back to them.

"What is it?" I asked.

"The remaining rogues ran off, but most of them exploded," he answered.

"What?"

Hhmm...

I thought intently.

"Help the injured, Kydon. I need to figure something out," I said.

"Yes, alpha."

After ensuring that all the injured warriors are treated and brought back to the packhouse. I was left here alone. There was nothing left here but the ragged and severed bodies of the rogues.

I sensed that the bell had something to do with this as I walked.

Are the elders so desperate to pull me down? I won't give them the satisfaction they want. I will defend my pack no matter what.

My eyes caught the head of a rogue who shifted back to his human form. The head was severed from its body; his eyes were wide open and staring at me. I approached it and squatted at the side of the head.

The head belongs to a boy. I can tell that he's still in his teens. His eyes were filled with fear as if he saw something so terrifying right before he died.

I sighed before picking the head. I knew that these rogues were innocent. The idea of them being used still lingers in my head. I suspect that the elders or the king, but I need proof. Rogues have their own lives, too, and they don't deserve to be killed and used.

I put the head under the pit. I dug under the tree and covered it. Vultures will come and feast on the guts of those who died.

I punched the trunk of the tree. It's not that I'm mad but because of my situation.

"Alpha!"

I groaned when I heard Kaydon's voice outside my door. He has been knocking at my door outside, which pissed me off. This is the only time I have a good sleep after four nights, but here he is! He must have a death wish!

"What is it?" he probably heard a hint of annoyance in my tone.

"The king and the elders are here and wish to talk to you," he informed.

I scratched the tip of my nose.

"Who?"

"The king and the elders are outside waiting for you," he repeated.

"What the fuck are they doing here?" I shouted.

"I don't have any idea, alpha, but please come out and face them," he said politely.

"Alright! Alright!" I said lazily, not moving an inch on my bed.

"Alright, I'll tell them to wait for you," he said before leaving.

Heh! Wait for me, morons!

After a few minutes, I snuggled back to my pillows and closed my eyes. I was about to go into a deep slumber when the door flew out of the opened floor-to-ceiling window. I dodged it before it could hit me.

"Damn it!!" I cussed.

"You better dress up and meet me before I decide to fuck you here," a baritone and arrogant voice sounded inside my room. I saw a man leaning against the doorframe and staring at me, grinning while crossing his arms to his chest.

His onyx-colored eyes were staring at me like I was some meat prepared for him to be devoured. His aura was powerful and full of authority, telling me he was the king. I can't deny how gorgeous this man is in front of me, but I hate being disrespected.

I growled at him as a warning.

"Easy, alpha! Get dressed, and we'll talk properly in your study room," he said amusedly.

"You think you can just barge into my territory after what you've done to my pack?" I hissed while covering my body with a robe.

"Yes. No one can stop me from entering your humble home. I'll be waiting for you outside," he said before turning on his back and walking away.

"Alpha, the king, was so persistent in talking to you," Kaydon said apologetically. "I tried to stop him but-"

"It's fine. I'll wash up and change my clothes before facing him. Make sure to fix my door," I said before entering the bathroom. I removed my clothes in annoyance and stood under the shower.

The nerve of that king! I want to kick his ass out of my territory, but I still have my respect for him as the king, so I restrain myself.

Wearing my skinny black jeans topped with long sleeve checkered polo folded up until the elbow, I descended to the pack's house living room, where the elders and the king were seated while waiting for me. He sat there crossed legs like he was the owner of this packhouse.

I cleared my throat to get their attention.

"What are you doing here in my territory?" I asked them while going down the stairs.

The elders sat up straight except for the king, who grinned as he stared at me as if undressing me.

"Pervert!" Claw hummed.

"What the heck is wrong with you?" I hissed at her.

"What?" she uttered nonchalantly.

"What do you mean what? You just hummed while that foolish king was checking us out!" I said in a displeased tone.

To my annoyance, she just hummed again before hiding in the corner of my head.

"This flirty wolf!!" my mind resentfully screamed.

Without respect, I sat rudely on the single sofa in front of them. After what they have done to my pack and me, they expect me to bow and kneel to them? That's a big no!

"We're not going to beat around the bush, Alpha Raven. We and the king and his council came here to let you know that we are officially declaring that you will be the first female alpha in our kingdom," Onix said before standing with the council members. The king was only staring incessantly at me.

"What made you change your mind to legalize me being an Alpha? Was it fun to see me struggling to protect my pack as you attacked us non-stop for the past four days? Do you think I can still give you my respect when you trampled me as a female alpha?" I calmly said.

"We did all of that to test you," the king said casually. "And you passed the test. You did what a real alpha should do. You proved to me that you are fitted to become the Alpha of this huge pack. Congratulations! You passed!" he uttered while grinning.

Kapitel 11: Chapter 11: King Rebel

What he said inflamed me. How can he still say casually when so many innocent lives died because of his so-called test?

"And also, is it convenient to use rogues against us? Do you still have a conscience?" I mocked. "Was it also your plan to kill them after testing us? You're the king and elders; aren't you supposed to care for them and spare their lives? They may be rogues, but they still have the freedom to live just like us. You stepped in their right, and this is the most disgusting trick for me."

I feel sorry for the fallen and dead rogues.

To others, this is good news, but putting my pack in danger is another matter. Plus, those poor rogues make my heart ache for them.

"What are you talking about?" the elders asked me confusedly.

"What am I talking about? I'll show you, and please follow me," I uttered and stood up. I lead them out of the packhouse to the open space at the edge of my territory.

There, I show them the gruesome aftermath of the war. Rogues' dead bodies are scattered on the dirty ground. Their remains and bloody death make someone puke their intestines out.

I saw confusion in their eyes, including the king.

"We never used rogues, Raven. We don't need them to attack you just for this test," Onix mumbled while shaking his head.

"Then explain why these things happened? For the past three days, rogues had been attacking us. And the worst is that humans were involved. I captured a rogue and that human for interrogation, but when I woke up the next day, my warriors found them dead without reason. I tried sniffing the air to search for the sign of the trespasser, but it was clean. And what disturbed me was that the rogues exploded on their own as if a bomb was planted inside their bodies. There was something fishy about this, I just felt it. Rogues never band together and live alone. They even avoid pack's territories, so why did they come here in a group." A snicker escaped from her mouth. "And you're telling me that you have nothing to do about this? Are you kidding me?" A hint of sarcasm can be heard in my tone. My eyes never left the king's face as I tried to observe him.

Confusion is written on his face as if he has nothing to do with this. Even the elders are clueless about it.

"This is confusing," Scar muttered after examining all the remains. "Someone is behind all this," he added.

"Yeah, I already figured it out. Someone out there probably hated me so much that they used this chance to kill me. Maybe, someone you trusted or working at the palace," I said.

"Onix assigned someone to investigate this matter," the king commanded.

"Yes, your majesty," he replied. "I must go back to the palace and see if I can find something."

The king nodded. The elders went with him while the king and his bodyguards stayed.

"I formally acknowledge you as an alpha, Claw, but what happened here puzzled me."

I glanced at him.

"Are you? Or you're just trying to hide it from your elders," I uttered.

"Can we talk in private?" he said seriously.

I was debating with my inner self if I would agree to talk to him or not.

"I know you probably don't want to be alone with me, but we need to talk for the kingdom's sake. I need to know everything that happens here," he insisted.

I heaved a deep sigh. Even though I don't want to talk to him, I must choose my responsibility first and set aside my grudge.

"Alright, follow me to my office," I resignedly said.

As we were walking back to the packhouse, I could feel his intense gaze behind me.

"Stop staring, will you," I snapped at him. Goosebumps slowly crawl on my skin.

"Sorry," he said.

As we entered my office, I offered him the seat in front of my table. I don't care if he's the king and needs royal treatment. He's in my territory and will have to get the treatment just like the wolves who live here.

I opened the window to allow the fresh air inside. I don't know why after we entered, heavy and thick air surrounded me as if suffocating me.

"Do you have a mate, Alpha Claw?" he suddenly asked me when I returned to my seat.

Huh! What kind of question is that?

"No! I don't," I answered casually.

"How old are you?"

"Twenty."

"Weren't you supposed to find your mate at sixteen?" I saw curiosity in his eyes.

Wait! We were supposed to discuss the attack here, but why is he asking me some personal and irrelevant things?

"Excuse my rudeness, your highness, but we must be talking about the rogues and the attacks," I interrupted him.

"I leave that to my elders," he replied. "They will solve it, and there's no need for me to help them," he added, which made me question his leadership.

Why does a king rely on his elders to work for him?

"If that's the case, then why do you want us to talk? I think we don't need to talk about that. I will investigate on my own," I dismissed him.

"Answer me, Raven, where is your mate?" he asked using his dangerous tone.

Bullshit! His voice carries a strong oppressiveness that I and claw have no right to refuse to answer.

"D-dead," I answered softly, though it was a lie.

The king's voice was more powerful than an alpha tone. Everyone answers him regardless of how strong the clan is.

I saw him smirking at me.

"Woah!" he mumbled. "Aren't you a remarkable lady? You survived without a mate even though chances of survival are slim; you still manage to stay alive. You even manage to become an alpha which most females your age can't do," he said, praising her. He stood up and walked to where my seat was located. "I am very impressed!" He was seated at the edge of the table. "Tell me, how did you do it? I'm curious."

"Aren't you curious one?" I asked him and pushed my swivel chair away from the table. I don't like the idea of being near him.

I smirk.
