Beatrice froze in fear. Maxwell bent down to pick up the items with an opened mouth.
"Uncle, what's going on here? Are these yours?" Maxwell asked his uncle as he turned to face him.
"Yes…they are mine."
"Did you give it to her? How did she get them?" Maxwell questioned his uncle who remained silent after looking at Beatrice's face. She had that threatening look on her face so he didn't say anything to avoid exposing himself.
"Sir, did she steal from you?" One of the two cops asked Henry.
"Maybe she did, maybe not."
"What are you saying?" Maxwell asked his uncle as he looked so confused.
"You said she was here last night, when did she leave?" The cop asked them.
"She left a couple of hours…maybe she came back to pick up something that she forgot and took it with her…there seem to be a mix up somewhere. I need to leave. The cops should do their work, just take her." Henry said to them as they whisked Beatrice away.
Henry walked past them as he whispered into her ears, "I'll come and bail you out. Just keep shut."
"This is madness! How can such happen in this house?" Maxwell complained to his uncle after they had left.
"Don't worry, we'll take care of it." Henry said to Maxwell as he left for his room.
Ava was sulking over her wedding dress. Her sister, Julie was fixing up some things.
"Babe, tears won't fix anything here. Let's just hope for the best okay?" Julie calmed her sister down. Just then, there was an angry knock on the door.
"Who is this person that wants to break down the door?" Julie asked in annoyance.
"Maybe it's him?" Ava asked as stopped crying.
"I'll go and get the door. You wait here and I want you to stop crying. I don't want him to think you've been sulking for long. Go wash your face before he gets in." Julie instructed her sister as she left.
Julie opened the door but yo her surprise, it wasn't Sebastian. Her jaws dropped on seeing who was at the door. Jason.
"Jason? What are you doing here?" Julie asked in surprise.
"What am I doing here, Julie! That is what you are asking me!" His voice sounded so angry and harsh.
"Where is Ava? Is it true? Where is she?" He poured out his questions to her.
"What are you talking about? Come in." Julie opened the door wider for him to get in.
"Tell me Julie, what is happening? Is my love not enough for your sister? Isn't she pleased with me? What wrong have I done to deserve such a surprise? Tell me Juliet!" Jason spoke so angrily at her.
He called her full name for the first time in so many years. She knew that he must be heartbroken by whatever he was talking about. She could see tears in his eyes and feel it in his voice.
"I'm sorry Jason…but what is the problem? What are you talking about?" Julie asked Jason, not sure of what he was saying. Just then, the door opened and Jason turned to see who it was. Ava had come into the living room as she dried her hands on a napkin.
"You, have you always been so ungrateful? Have you always been so heartless and unkind? At least if you didn't want me, you should have told me. If you couldn't tell me, you should have asked your sister to tell me that you are interested in another man. Why all these?" Jason asked Ava with tears in his eyes. He couldn't hold them back anymore as they fell off his eyes.
Ava felt so sorry for him. She felt guilty already but she was also surprised.
"Jason…I thought you knew about this…Julie…didn't you tell him I was getting married?" Ava asked her sister as she was confused. Jason turned to look at Julie.
"I'm sorry…I should have done that earlier. Jason, the thing is Ava wasn't aware that I didn't tell you…please calm down and let's sort this out." Julie begged him but he was raged.
"Calm down? How can I calm down? I was going to propose to your sister this weekend! Why couldn't she be patient enough if she wanted to marry so quickly?" Jason yelled at Julie.
"Please it's not her fault…I'm sorry…" Ava tried to plead with Jason but he was already mad.
"Stay away from me! I hate you two!" He yelled in anger and stormed out. Ava had tears rolling down her cheeks. Julie went after Jason but he refused to say another word to her as he got into his car and drove away. Julie stood there as she watched him trail off. Ava stood at the door, watching them with tears in her eyes.
"I'm sorry that your friend is mad at you because of me…" Ava apologized but Julie told her not to worry and they went inside.
They continued with the wedding preparations. Their relatives would be coming in the evening so they cleaned and cooked for them.
Maxwell got information from his manager with how far the wedding was going. He called off his wedding with Hazel in the twinkling of an eye. His uncle was raged as he stormed into his office.
"Are you mad? What is wrong with you? Why did you call off the wedding?" Henry bursted into Maxwell's office with those questions.
Maxwell was expecting this so it wasn't something he wasn't prepared for.
"Uncle, shouldn't you have at least asked me why I did that?" Maxwell asked his uncle in a calm voice.
"And what useless excuse could you give?" He asked him back.
"Hazel is pregnant and she ran away with her lover." Maxwell replied.
"Then find her! Comb around the town to find her! Is it that hard for you to do?" Henry yelled at him.
"We should be looking for a way forward right? Rather than all of these." Maxwell said to the chairman.
"You are such a disappointment! Anyway, I was expecting something like this to happen which is why you have to go and bail Angela out of prison." The chairman replied as he tried to cool down.
"Why should I go and see her? And besides, her name is Beatrice not Angela." Maxwell replied nonchalantly.
"Because she is carrying your baby! And that is not the best way to treat your child's mother." The chairman let it out.
"What nonsense are you saying?" Maxwell asked his uncle in confusion.
"Yes. Maxwell Evans, that lady is pregnant for you!"
"How is that even possible? Please stop all these…I know that you are angry with me about calling off my wedding but that doesn't mean that you should just be making things up anyhow." Maxwell said to his uncle, not taking him serious.
"I'm serious Maxwell! Angela is pregnant!" Henry yelled at him.
"I don't understand…how is that my business if she is pregnant? Why should I all of a sudden be claiming another man's child?" Maxwell asked his angered uncle.
"I'll tell you why you should son! That's because you are the father of her unborn baby. You impregnated her." Henry replied to him gently. Maxwell burst out into a bout of laughter.
"Hahahahaha…..this is hilarious…like I've ever known a lady before. Please uncle, I have work to do so if you don't mind, you can see to the door. I don't have time for all of this." Maxwell replied.
"Oh, you think this is funny right? I will bail her out and together, we'll go and conduct a pregnancy test on her." Henry replied.
"Well then it still means nothing. I mean, whether she is pregnant or not, it is not my business. I've not touched her or yuck…this is so disgusting. Please leave." Maxwell replied with an irritating look.
"I'll tell you why I'm so confident that she is carrying your child. That night that she came to our house, she slept over in your room and you touched her Max." Henry explained to him.
"I'm not ready for this please! Take it elsewhere." Maxwell replied.
"Watch this!" Henry dropped a flash drive on Maxwell's table.
"What's that?" He asked him as he looked at it. Henry didn't reply as he sat down. Maxwell inserted the flash into his laptop and played the video. It was a sex videotape but it was not the complete video of what happened that night when Beatrice went into his room.
Whoever that laid hands on the video has cropped out some part. It started from where Maxwell laid on top of Beatrice and confessed his feelings for her after which he made love to her. Maxwell was shocked after watching this. He didn't know it was an incomplete video.
"What is this?" He asked his uncle in a shaky voice.
"I should be asking you what this is." Henry replied.
"This can't be true."
"You want to say it's photoshopped?"
"I don't know but this is not true! I can't remember doing such!" Maxwell denied it.
"Come on boy. If it were photos, I'll agree that it was photoshopped but this is a full live video! Isn't this your room? Come on Max!" Henry replied him back, rather harshly.
"You know what you will do now? If that girl is pregnant, then you have no choice but to marry her. Otherwise, if she takes this video out, you are doomed in this company! Do you get it? Can you withstand the shame of sleeping with your employee? Can you?" Henry said to Maxwell and with that, he got up to leave.
"And by the way, she also has the original copy. She sent this to me, threatening to get her out of there and you should pay her dowry as soon as possible or she will go viral. Do the right thing!" Henry said and left the office. He let out a smile on his lips and went to his office.
He was sure that Maxwell was going to fall for this trick. He had no chance to stand down, he was going to bail her out and also marry her.
As expected, Maxwell ordered for her bail but she wasn't going to come back to work for the rest of that week. Maxwell couldn't help thinking about it. It was so real, but how come he wasn't aware of it? Eric noticed how he felt so down and asked him what was wrong.
Maxwell couldn't tell him about the affair. He kept on denying that there was nothing wrong. Eric requested they go for a drink at their favorite bar. Maxwell wasn't even showing interest in his drink.
"Talk to me, what's wrong?" Eric asked him as he was more concerned.
"I don't know how to tell you this, man…"
"Come on…we've been friends for a very long time and we share our pain and joy together. What's this all about that you feel heavy to tell me? Talk to me, I've got your back." Eric tried to persuade him and Maxwell finally gave in.
"It's about Angela…my former secretary."
"What about her? Is she ill? She hasn't been coming to work for some days now. Is everything okay with her?" Eric asked.
"I don't care if she is okay but she…hmm…"
"Relax…calm down and talk to me. What happened?"
"She is threatening me."
"Hh.. threatening you? How can someone threaten you? Especially a lady?" Eric asked as he was surprised, which made him to scoff.
"Yes."
"How? Why is she threatening you and with what?"
"She wants me to marry her and the chairman also agreed to it."
"Haha…okay, this is getting more funnier than I thought. What's all these? Angela? That quiet girl that everyone admires? Why will she do such a thing and why the hell is it even disturbing you? You are more than this man!" Eric replied.
"I know…this is just so confusing…"
"What really happened? What made her to do such and have so much guts in the first place?"
"She is not who everyone think she is. Her name is Beatrice and not Angela. She is an impostor."
"Oh my…what? How come? This is really getting complicated. Why would she take the identity of someone else?"
"Exactly my point but that's not what's even bothering me.
"So what is?"
"We…she…I don't know…she slept in my bed and things went too far."
