　　He was trying to comfort and reassure her, she thought, but the fact that he was doing so meant that it was worse than he was saying and that frightened her.

　　“So, they will bump up the beef for the next four days, we will all be a little more alert, and it will be fine,” he told her with false cheer. “Hey, we have the new house to look forward to,” he was trying to change the subject onto a happier one. “The company I hired was moving our stuff in, and I got a delivery confirmation on the lounge suite that we ordered, so it arrived on time after all.”

　　She sighed, her mind still on the stalker. “I guess it is part of the deal, right? Creeps. Other people deal with this all the time.”

　　“And just get on with it. How many celebrities do you hear about getting kidnapped or murdered? Except for that, ah, what was her name?”
