Kapitel 58: Chapter 58- Confused

Some time passed as Yun Ning's puffy cheeks deflated, her jealousy now nowhere to be found as she sat on top of a horse with Long Ren sitting behind her.

"..."

"Do we really need to share a horse?" Long Ren asked. They rented a Red-Eyed horse from the clan's beasts' den as a method of travel. Although it traveled slower than both of them, they wanted to take it easy.

Long Ren wanted to get two horses yet Yun Ning suggested one is enough. He could only sigh at her as she puffed her cheeks once more. In the end, he relented, hence the current situation.

"It's cheaper that way." She said as she whistled a tune.

"We rented this for free, it's my Master's pets, you know that." Long Ren said as he rolled his eyes.

Yun Ning sighed as she heard Long Ren's words. She just wanted to spend more time with him yet this guy refused to. Sure they spent time as well even if they rode on a different horses, but she just wanted to be closer.

Can't she?

"It's too late now is it?" She said, a bit down. She knew she acted selfishly before, but she genuinely thought he would be fine with it.

What they did yesterday seemed more intimate, so why can't they do this? Maybe that was but a spur-of-the-moment thing?

'Maybe he's not ready?... This is so complicated, I thought Master said this should be easy after yesterday,' She thought to herself, a bit confused. 'This is all Master's fault, always pushing me and all!'

She had never thought of starting a relationship before. Her mind had only ever thought about training and getting stronger, yet right after Diona and Long Ren came into her life, this happened.

Even though she knew what relationships and love are, she had never experienced those. These feelings felt foreign to her.

She thought after yesterday, they had taken a step forward. Intimate contacts are fine, yet now, they took a step back as he wants to ride alone.

Nothing changed from yesterday, she surely didn't change anything yet, why is today different?

She noticed his subtle movements, he doesn't seem to want to make any kind of contact with her…

Isn't this the same as training? You reach a step and continue on forward? Why had they taken a step back then?

Yun Ning racked her head, trying to figure out whether Long Ren is really okay with these types of actions. Her feelings are now all jumbled as they don't know what to do.

Long Ren didn't notice her downed tone as he was simply too uncomfortable, or comfortable really, with this quite ambiguous position. The horse, though enough to occupy two people, felt a bit too small for his liking.

Their bodies made contact as the horse trotted along the path. He didn't know whether she was comfortable with this, but he was not, as he was using all of his willpower to stop something from rising, and it is not the shield hero.

~ ~ ~ ~

One hour later, Long Ren and Yun Ning arrived at Star City's entrance. Their journey here could only be described as pure silence.

Yun Ning 's mind was too busy trying to explore her own as well as Long Ren's feelings to start a small talk while Long Ren had to fight against the horns. A fierce battle that he won, at the cost of several bonks he had to receive.

They dropped from the horse and continued along the path. Soon enough, they reached the guards and showed their identity.

Some lurking eyes turned their attention towards them as whispers flew across the murmuring crowd.

The guards quickly showed their respects and let them in. Long Ren and Yun Ning ignored the crowd as they handed the horse and followed the path. (A/N: Harse valet baby!)

With his newly cleansed mind, Long Ren took notice of Yun Ning's unusual expression. Her head seemed to hang low, her face a bit pale and her shoulders slouch, albeit just a tiny bit.

Usually, she would show a gentle smile, yet this time, she added a slight confusion to the mix. He kept seeing her brows scrunching up and down.

He didn't know whether it was appropriate to ask or not, but he wanted to help her. She told him not to bottle up his feelings, using her as an outlet, and he wants to be the same. He had always wanted a genuine friendship, and he plans to never let this one go down the drain. (A/N: Please don't say it. I beg of you.)

"What's wrong?" Long Ren asked with the gentlest tone he could possibly muster.

Yun Ning got out of her thoughts as she looked at Long Ren, her face still confused. She looked at him for a while and sighed, "...Nothing,"

Long Ren squinted his eyes, her sigh must've meant something, and if there is anything he remembered about women is that if they ever say nothing, it means everything.

"Won't you tell me? We're friends right?" Long Ren said with a smile as he used her exact words against his. Those words still rang through his head every other time as those were the words that brought him to despair, yet with only her, hope.

He hoped he could use those words to help her as well, the same way she helped him.

Yun Ning's eyes widened as she looked at his gentle eyes, noticing the meaning behind his words. She thought for a while and nodded. He was right, they are friends, and she could depend on him as he did on her.

"I will, but let's find a better place to talk first," She said

"Ok, do you know any good place to talk in?" Long Ren asked as his smile widened. He felt happy she could open up to him, maybe depend on him, though, he would need to depend on her first to find a good place as he didn't know the surrounding areas.

Yun Ning nodded and started to lead the way.

As they stumble through the busy crowd, Yun Ning was still deep in her thoughts. Although she agreed to let her feelings out, she realized it wasn't as easy as she thought.

When she asked Long Ren to reveal his, she didn't know it would be this hard, not to mention he seemed to have a trauma beforehand, meaning his burden multiplied.

Her body started to jitter as she felt nervous, she willed herself to stay calm yet it never worked.

'Why is it this hard?' She thought to herself, 'Why can't I just be honest and ask him?... Am I…afraid?' Her mind started to lead her thoughts astray as she finally, for once, had to deal with complicated feelings.

'Does he not like being close to me after yesterday?'

"Yun Ning…"

'Was I too bold?'

"Yun Ning."

'...I thought he enjoyed it…so,'

"Yun Ning!" Long Ren exclaimed near her head, she soon got out of her stupor as she looked at Long Ren's worried face. She realized they barely moved from their position as she was too lost in her thoughts.

The crowd near them stared at their situation as if they had nothing better to do. Though, they both were too lost in their own world to care.

"Are you really fine?" Long Ren asked, now his tone even more worried. He had never seen Yun Ning so absent-minded before, and it terrified him. What could possibly make her think so deep into it like this?

"I…I honestly don't know." She answered, her smile a bit wry. She wondered where the brash and crude side of her is now. She wanted to use that right now so she could immediately end this, and yet, they won't appear. They can't.

Long Ren looked at her. She kept avoiding his gaze.

'What happened?' Long Ren thought to himself. Why did she suddenly turn all weak?

He racked his mind and could only think of their horse ride. She was fine before that but not after.

But nothing has happened, at least to him. Was she perhaps angry at him? Why? He complied, so why?

"Is this about the horse ride?" He decided to just ask.

"...no"

Long Ren sighed, he really wanted to nip this in the bud before it turned worst but it really isn't the right place to do so, and Yun Ning is too absent-minded right now.

Long Ren grabbed her hand and held it, dragging her away from the watching crowd as he hissed them away. Although he didn't mind their stares, it's still really annoying. The crowd soon dispersed, continuing their daily lives.

Hand in hand, they both soon left the main path and head towards wherever food smelled, as he would rather talk while munching on something, it always helped in calming him down, and maybe it'd work for her too.

While Long Ren was busy finding the way to the food district, Yun Ning followed his steps as she gazed at their connected hand. Her thoughts ran about once more, why'd he grabbed her hand when he avoided her like the plague back then?

Perhaps her thoughts were wrong? Does he not mind their contacts? Or maybe was it just the pace, maybe.

Yun Ning bit her lower lips, she wanted to try something, she wanted to know, and doing so would point her in the right direction, at least she thought so.

Long Ren looked left and right and finally found a decent place. A quiet atmosphere, a big enough place to accommodate a private room at least it looked high-class enough to have those.

Just as he was about to show Yun Ning the restaurant, he felt a movement from his right hand.

(A/N: Missed yesterday cuz I was too tired, soz.)
