Kapitel 28: Chapter 28- Vertical [Space Step] is Pain.
Inside the now dimly lit cave, only one tent could be seen standing there. Inside the tent is Long Ren, sleeping soundly after yesterday's unexpected yet welcome encounter.
He twisted his body and groggily stood his upper body up, rubbing his eyes. He yawned, still wanting to sleep more, but knew deep inside that 10 hours was already far too long.
His eyes opened slowly and then noticed the lack of sunshine.
Remembering where he was, he took out a basin from his ring, filled it with cold water using a runestone, and washed his face, waking him up completely.
'Runestones are probably the best invention after storage rings.' Long Ren smiled.
His dependence on convenience from his previous world turns out to not be such a big of a problem as he thought it would be.
Other than not having internet or immediate entertainment with just a click of a finger, he felt really satisfied with this world. Of course, discarding all the moral shenanigans.
Even without entertainment, cultivation is there to fill the gaping hole. It is not as boring as Yun Ning perceived it to be, at least for Long Ren.
But, whether this satisfaction will stay with him all the way or not, only time will tell. He is still very young after all.
Remembering yesterday's events, Long Ren's smile bloomed even more. And yet, it suddenly turned into one of nervousness.
He liked Yun Ning, she seemed gentle and nice. Approachable really, yet, Long Ren could only smile wryly as he remembered his past life's experiences.
Sometimes, the gentle ones tend to be quite the deceiving bunch. He shook his head, not wanting to remember anymore of his depressing social life.
Whether they ever meet again was still up for debate, worrying about what would happen then would be useless.
If he never meets her again, then that's that. If he did, Long Ren hoped she wouldn't be like…them.

He quickly cleaned out his tent as he got rid of those dark thoughts. He brought it down, and stored it back in his ring.
He saw the lack of Yun Ning's tent. He scratched his cheek, "Guess I really did sleep for far too long."
Though Long Ren wanted them to at least say their goodbyes before they left in their own ways, it was not appropriate. They had just known each other for one day, after all.
If she did wake him up and said her goodbyes to him, all previous positive thoughts he had of her would be demolished. The same thing most likely applies to her too.
Shaking his useless thoughts away, Long Ren took a quick warm bath (He brought his bath in the ring after not bathing while doing his first mission) and went out of the cave.
What greets him is the same scenery as yesterday, but with a hint of afternoon sunlight.
Yesterday, he just wanders around the outskirts of the mountain, trying to find stray beasts and hunt them and get accustomed to the area.
Today, he will start his journey to the pond. From his discussion with Yun Ning yesterday, rank five beasts only appear in the inner layer of the mountain, while ranks 6 and 7 in the core layer, a bit after the pond.
How a rank-6 demon rabbit wandered around the outer layer was something they both were confused with.
She hunted the rabbit to prevent someone from getting unnecessary injuries trying to fight something above their paygrade.
His little interaction with the rabbit also gave him an idea of how fast his speed and reaction speeds are. Stupid fast.
Demon-rabbits are known for their agility and speed and considering they are 2 ranks above Long Ren, it was a worthy achievement.
Sometimes Long Ren forget that Xing Lao is a powerhouse.
Sparring with him constantly made him forget that even with Xing Lao's suppressed cultivation, going toe-to-toe with him should be a hard thing to do.
Turns out, his unusually strong body is even more broken than he thought it was.
Anyway, He most likely won't be meeting any more rank-6 beasts until he at least reached the pond.
Not to mention rank-7, as there is only one rank-7 beast that resides on this mountain and it lives right on the heart of the mountain.
Long Ren started his journey while ignoring all unimportant beasts along the way. Some beasts might try to chase him but none could even touch his shadows.

After traveling for a while, he reached upon a region covered with rocks.
Each of them has a steep elevation, making it hardly worth it for anyone to traverse the path. They were better off roaming around and finding another way.
But for Long Ren, it is the perfect opportunity to train his [Space Step].
Maybe Xing Lao had this specific terrain in mind while recommending the mountain to Long Ren, or maybe it was just a coincidence, either way, it's a nice place for Long Ren to discover.
Looking around, he found a rock "stairs" with the first step around two meters high and the next step five meters higher.
Although Long Ren could climb up, it would defeat the purpose of coming here, so, he tried using [Space Step]. This time, vertically.
He channeled the surrounding qi and infused it with spatial elements, guiding it towards his feet and took a step, trying to reach the stone's top.
*BANG*
"AGH!" Long Ren shouted, as he grabbed his pained forehead. His forehead is now colored red, spasming in pain.
"FUCK! Why does it hurt so much!" Long Ren continued shouting.
He had never collided with an object before while using [Space Step], because usually, when he tried to step into an object, the qi just fizzles away, ie, nothing happened.
But now, why does it almighty pull him into the rock! His target is just on a higher elevation now, why does it not fizzle away if it won't work properly!
Not wanting to give up. Long Ren took a few steps back and tried it again, this time, coating his entire body with qi, mainly his forehead, to prevent stupid injuries.
*BANG*
The same thing happened again, only this time, the rock cracked instead of Long Ren's forehead. The force of impact did not hurt him with his shield up, but it did hurt the rock.
Long Ren tried a few more times, but all yielded no results. The rock is now on the verge of crumbling, a few more good hits and it would break down.
Not wanting to look insane, he stopped. Clearly, he is missing something. Maybe two meters is too high for the current him?
He searched around and found a one-meter high pitch black rock at the foot of the terrain. Declaring its surface as his target,
He took a deep breath and took a step.
[Space Step]
*BANG*
"AGH FUCK! Why does this rock hurt more!"
