Kapitel 20: 20- The Ginnak book of spells

"Let me walk you to your room," The pleasant gesture from Oliver warmed her heart. They had been out all day keeping each other company, she wouldn't lie, he was funny and warm. But her heart was already set on someone else, Michael.

He walked her to her doorstep, it was late. Robert was going to talk her ears off tomorrow for still pinning her heart to Michael instead of Oliver, he had seen them today and he had been giving her 'the eye'. Perverted Robert.

"So, are you busy tomorrow? Your tutor hasn't been feeling well, so no tutoring for you in the meantime. I would love to spend time with you." Oliver said. His eyes were looking directly at Lexi's. He shuffled closer to her, his eyes fell on her lips; so tiny and soft looking.

Alexandra felt the change in atmosphere and gulped. She didn't know how to react, she wanted to move back but her back was already on the wall. She quivered negligibly when he brought his lips down to hers. But a voice stopped him,

"Isn't that too early, Mr. Cole, making the girl uncomfortable isn't the right move," Their heads swiveled to look at who spoke, Micheal.

Michael walked closer to them, Alexandra could tell he was angry.

"Didn't know Mr. Davis was a nose poker," Oliver remarked, his eyes blazing at Michael. He backed away from her and turned to Michael, "I have no intention of making her uncomfortable, Mr. Davis, I was just underlining what's mine." Alexandra could feel the tension between these two.

"Uhmm…I should get inside," she couldn't look them in the eyes, she turned and entered her room.

_________

"I'll be introducing something different today," Robert glances over at Lexi, she wasn't paying attention. "Pay attention, little brat," he scoffed.

Alexandra rolled her eyes and glided her eyes from the book on the table.

"What's that?" She queried, pointing at his hand. The book in Robert's hand caught her attention.

"This is a book of spells. There are few of these books, but I think this is the last one, all others have been burnt." He countered as he turned the pages.

"Why do you have it if it was supposed to be burnt? And what type of book of spells is this?" She asked.

"It has been passed down from generation, my great-great found it under a burnt house 150-200 years ago. It is said to hold powers, but up until now I've seen nothing." He hesitated, "This is the Ginnak book of spells,"

"Ginnak? What's that?" She asked, totally confused.

Robert raised his head from the book and glared at her, "I can't believe you haven't been paying attention these few days," Lexi put on a fake pleading expression and Robert scowled.

"Now listen carefully, I wouldn't say this twice, it isn't supposed to be told." The atmosphere changed and everywhere became silent, "The Ginnak is a soul, an evil spirit that possesses a body once in a hundred years. And I'll tell you, it's very cruel."

"If… this Ginnak is evil, why hasn't it been killed or destroyed?" She asked.

"Killing the Ginnak means killing the body it possessed, and when the body is killed it reincarnates the next century or so, and like that. And it cannot be destroyed. According to my grandpa, its mission is to end humanity, and that's what it will do."

"That's awful…" she commented. "So the book held spells the Ginnak needs or what?"

"It's a book that teaches the Ginnak everything, spells, fighting skills, and especially, the past. The history of the first Ginnaks is written here, the truth and why everything happened."

"Can…I read it?" Being a history lover she suddenly felt intruded.

"Nobody can read it, Except the body it possesses. The language is very different." Robert told her.

"Then why are the rest burnt, nobody can read them, right?"

"Right. But the body possessed shouldn't lay his eyes on the book, it speeds up the transformation." He closed the book and kept it inside a safe box, he took the box and hid it under the floor.

"Now let's go back to what I wanted to teach you,"...

Alexandra wasn't sure she listened to one word Robert said after the Ginnak topic, she didn't know why but she felt the need to look deeper into the Ginnak story. She had to fight the urge not to pick up the book and glance through it, she hated the pull she was feeling toward it.

_________

That night Alexandra couldn't sleep, she kept tossing around her bed hoping to fall asleep but failed. She finally gave up sleeping and climbed down from her bed. She took the jug of water but it was empty.

She wore her shoe and left her bedroom with a jug in her hand. She went downstairs to the kitchen, her footsteps were light since it was 1 am.

She saw the lights in the kitchen were on, it wasn't supposed to be.

What entered her mind was that someone had broken in, but a familiar figure walked out.

Oliver stepped out of the kitchen, followed shortly by a maid, the maid ran fast to her quarters, leaving Oliver, none of them had seen her yet.

She took a step back, she didn't want him to see her. But her legs stumbled upon a vessel.

"Who's there?" Oliver asks. From her standing position, she could see his eyes wandering around, searching for the noise.

Alexandra walked back slowly, but before she could turn around to climb the stairs she heard her name.

"Alexandra." He didn't call her name like he was inquiring, he seemed so sure it was her. She walks towards the kitchen,

"Hey, Oliver," She smiled, but he wasn't.

"Why are you out by this time?" He questioned. That was supposed to be her question.

"I ran out of water, I just came down to get some," She told him. She could see suspicion in his eyes, as well as anger.

"Did…you see anyone…apart from me?" He asked frighteningly slowly.

"No," she shook her head, her expression was blank, "I just came down and I mistakenly hit a vessel." She paused, " Why are you asking?" She looked at him, "Are you also here to get water?"

"No, nothing, I thought I saw someone else. Yeah, I ran out of water, I came down to get some." She knew he was lying, and he had no jug or cup with him.

"Ok, I'll just get some water and go back to sleep." She smiled again and walked into the kitchen. After filling her jug she walked out of the kitchen only to meet Oliver still standing there.

"You haven't left,"

"No, I thought…maybe I could walk you to your room." He offered politely, this was the Oliver she knew. A few seconds ago he was all mysterious and intimidating…and scary.

"Sure," They both climbed the stairs.

"I'm sorry for how I behaved with Michael, I noticed you weren't comfortable." He said. His eyes lingered on her for a few seconds. There were just a few steps away from her room.

"Nah, it's ok. You guys will get along once you get to know each other."

"I hope so," He brought his lips to her forehead, "Sleep tight." He whispered and walked away.

Alexandra foolishly stood there with a fast-beating heart.

Why does she feel like she just cheated on Michael? Ok, that wasn't the right word.

Foolish girl. She muttered to herself.

_______

(The year 1742)

"You're late," A calm voice said, he raised his eyes from the cup in his hand and looked up at the frightened little girl.

"I… I'm sorry Mr. Lambert, Michael wanted company, he was scared." The girl said, her eyes looking anywhere but at him.

"Michael, uh?" He whirled the silver cup in his hand, "Why would a man need company from a tiny girl?" She could feel his dreadful eyes on her, crushing her.

"H-he lost his parents just a few days back, he wanted someone to talk to," Ava said, to say she wasn't scared would be a lie. It was dark and here she was, inside his chambers.

"Do you know how his parents died?" He asked. His eyes ran down her outfit, it was dark but he could see perfectly fine.

"They were attacked by an unknown beast-"

"Not what everyone else knows, the truth," His words confused her.

"Your Highness, t…that's what I know. It was declared by the councilmen."

He stared at her for a few seconds.

"What if I say he killed his parents," Ava's head snapped up, and stared at him with horror and confusion.

That wasn't true. She thought.
