“Well, specialist MacKay, congratulations on your new career,” I smile as I tap the edge of my cheap wine glass against Felix’s glass. The ringing clink is slightly off-key, but it doesn’t spoil the moment for me. The dark bubbling liquid swirls in the glass, popping some of the bubbles near the top.
Even though it’s only sparkling grape juice since we’re both underage, it still feels like a special occasion and that we’re living the high life. Felix blushes, hard, and looks away, bashfully reaching up and scratching his neck by the base of his scalp.
