He watched his grandfather walk away from them and out of the dining room, leaving him to deal with her. He thought he did the right thing by protecting his grandfather from opportunistic people who might want to abuse his kindness.
But was he wrong about her? Did he misinterpret the information that Clay gave him about this woman? But based on his grandfather's words, he might have. He could not dismiss what the Count told him.
"Luisa is not a gold digger. I can assure you of that." His grandfather declared with determination as if he was ready to bet his life on it.
The smile on his face vanished. In its place was an expression he could not understand. His grandfather suddenly looked very old, as if all the life in him had faded.
"Then, tell me what it is you are keeping from me. Who is Luisa? Why are you so interested in her? You kept saying that you know her father? Who is he?" He had many more questions in his mind, and he wanted answers.
