Kapitel 24: Act 4, Chapter 4

Once again your parents expressed their condolences to you.

,,And? Are you going to the funeral?" your mother finally asked and you said nodded.

"It's the least I can do." You admitted, "After all, I live in his house and I didn't go to the other funeral either. It feels right to want to go there."

After you talked a bit more about different topics your father finally asked the question of all questions.

"Are you finally going to show us around or what?"

You were looking forward to this question because, despite the fact that you hadn't done much to this house, you were proud of it.

You first showed them the lower floor.

The kitchen, the living and dining room, the guest room and guest bathroom and you also opened the door to the conservatory for them so that they could take a quick look around.

At first you only pointed to the door to the basement and told them where it lead to, but your father insisted that you at least opened the door so that he could have a look inside.

You couldn't think of an excuse to give him, hoping he wouldn't notice the wooden boards in front of the window and that Chrollo would stay out of it all.

That he would not do anything to reveal himself or make himself known in any kind of way.

With displeasure and restless hands you slowly opened the door to the basement.

Without hesitation, your father took a look inside and of course asked why it was so dark before he looked for the light switch.

Turning on the light would fix the ghost problem, but then he would definitely see the boards.

You only heard the click of the light switch before you could even think fast enough, but the light that was supposed to illuminate the room didn't materialize.

Slightly puzzled with an accompanying noise, your father flipped the light switch a couple of times back and forth as if that could fix the light.

You were just as surprised by the non-working light as he was, which was why you couldn't say anything yourself for the first few seconds.

"The light is broken." you finally managed to stammer and when asked why it was so dark there you answered that it was always like that.

As you started to close the door again, you mentally wiped beads of sweat from your forehead, which turned into real ones when you saw a shadow scurrying around in the dim light.

Luckily your parents didn't notice you flinch.

Together you went upstairs and you also led them around the second floor.

You stayed in the study room for a moment because your parents were looking at the books there.

You went down again and talked with each other a bit until your mother pointed out the time.

With a heavy heart you escorted them both to the door where you said goodbye to each other before they got in the car and drove away.

You watched the car drive off a little while.

It was nice to see them again even if it was only a week since you had seen them the last time.

And yet it felt like an eternity because an incredible amount of things had happened in your life since then.

When you snapped out of your trance, you only noticed how dark and late it was getting.

Although you had listened when your mother called the time, you had not expected that it was already starting to get dark.

You went back into the house and the feeling of happiness vanished in an instant as the basement door jumped into your view, it was open again.

Slowly and with heavy steps you walked towards the door.

"(Y/N)" suddenly sounded and you looked around.

Did you really hear your name or just misheard a noise?

The radio in the kitchen was still playing quietly in the background and you didn't know the voice that said your name it must have been a coincidence.

But you swallowed your anger and confusion, reached for the door to close it.

It did not work.

The door wouldn't close no matter how hard you pulled and pushed, it barely moved.

"Shit..." you mumbled grumpily, you were really getting fed up with it.

You let go of the door, taking a few steps away before hastily turning back to push it in a moment of surprise.

Your plan worked, just a little differently than you wanted it to.

The steps you took were too short, so you misjudged the distance between your hands and the door.

You only hit the door with one hand, which closed it a little before you lost your balance from leaning too far forward.

With no more self-control, your body began to fall face down the stairs, letting the gravitational pull take over.

"That's it, I'm going to die." was the only thing you could think of as your hands found nothing to hold on to either.

But there was no impact and you couldn't even describe what happened that second until the moment was over.

Arms wrapped around you, literally hugging you.

You could feel your chin land lightly on something and your upper body was pressed against something.

You could feel a breath first on your face and then on your ear before your body was pushed up.

Your back swung the door open again and the next moment you were sitting on the floor in front of the entrance to the basement.

Your eyes were still wide with shock, which was why you couldn't open them any further when one of the stairs squeaked and bright, almost transparent hands disappeared into the darkness of the basement.

Still in a state of shock you couldn't move and your mind refused to process what had just happened.

When you were able to pull yourself out of this state, your body released every muscle it had been tensing up to then and you were able to let go of the breath you didn't know you were holding.

Freaked out by the event, you fell backwards, cupping your cheeks and eyes with your hands to hold back the tears that were about to fall.

You could have died.
