"Is it odd because it's night time or because I am a girl? Do you mean to say that women should only stay behind the walls of their houses?" His words seem to have given her a nudge and previous incidents came flashing back in her mind. Selene was beginning to feel the anger she had suppressed earlier in Santok.
"I never said any of those things." Deimos was quite intrigued by her reply and wished to scratch more information out of her.
"But you meant those things, now did you not?"
"You have mistaken the meaning behind my words." Deimos took a step forward, "Its cold and dangerous out here."
"Step back." She commanded, realizing that her feet were just balancing on the edge of the cliff, any further and she would fall right into the river below.
Deimos realized it as well and forcefully grabbed her hand pulling her back towards him.
"What are you doing?" She shouted and tried to rid her hand free of his grip.
It was inappropriate for a man to be this close to a girl, let alone touching her. Selene knew her boundaries pretty well and her reflexes convinced her to free herself.
On the contrary, Deimos felt an even stronger rush than before when he was in his wolf form. For some unexplainable reason, he wished to hold her hand forever. An electricity like, fast and piercing rush engulfed his body and soul and he only yearned to keep her close to him.
"Let go off my hand." Selene shouted again.
Realizing she was at a safer distance from the cliff now, he loosened his grip and Selene withdrew her hand as fast as she could.
"You were about to fall off that cliff. Try to pay more attention to your surroundings." The hurtling current seemed to be messing with his mind, turning him livid.
"I was going to move away from there but you were blocking my path."
"Sit here. And don't go near the edge." He instructed.
She didn't argue over that as he wasn't completely wrong.
"Now will you please tell me what you were doing here?" Deimos repeated politely.
"I believe I have already answered that question of yours."
"I am a spy for my nation. Do you think you are intelligent enough to fool me?" Although he lied but half of it was correct. Nobody has ever outsmarted Deimos Hrodulf.
"You must be a spy but I am also taught to not feed unnecessary information to strangers."
"Why were you crying earlier?" He completely ignored her statement.
"That shouldn't concern you." She replied quickly.
"Fine. Then let's walk back to Bellicus. I'll report my seniors and you can go back to your home." He challenged.
"I am not going to let some stranger walk me back home and memorize the way to my home. It will cause me trouble in the future."
Whoever she was, she was building quite a good impression in his heart and he was growing fond of her quick witty replies.
"I am beginning to doubt your intentions now. For some reason I feel like you're hiding something. In any case, I must report you to my seniors." He wished to test her out, hoping that would reveal something about her.
"It has nothing to do with you."
"Who knows if you are a spy for the wolves collecting intel for them by disguising as a little girl?" Deimos was internally laughing. He was aware that she was not a wolf, if she were, he would have detected it by now. But he wished to scratch the surface more.
"What nonsense! I am neither a wolf nor a spy. I just wanted to take a walk and lost my way here." Selene spoke loudly and without any pauses. Her mood was irked.
"It won't cost you anything if I walked you back home." He suggested.
"I can't be seen together with a man."
"Then walk back alone."
Selene went quiet. Now that she was in her senses, she was aware she was in the middle of nowhere and she definitely didn't remember the path she came from. She could try finding her way back but the dark forest was making it impossible and not to forget the wild feral creatures who roam freely in the forest, especially at night. It was relieving to have find some acquaintance in the forest instead of a wild beast. But future wasn't certain and she was afraid if she could go back safely.
Deimos could feel the patterns of her pulse spiking up and then dropping down. It felt amusing to him.
"The choice is yours." He interrupted her thoughts.
Selene gritted her teeth in defeat. It seemed like there was no choice left for her now.
"I don't want to go back yet." She looked away from him and towards the moon.
