Kapitel 17: lies meet lies

Selene observed him for a second again and knew he was lying. "Don't you think it is very odd for a traveller to be roaming around in the woods late at this hour when there is not much to see?" She cross questioned him.

"Well, I think it is more odd for a young lady to be crying in the middle of the forest at this hour." He said as he suppressed his laugh.

In his mind, he complimented her way of observing so properly and by every second his curiosity was increasing.

"I won't answer your question until you answer mine." She announced her intentions and he was surprised as to how she was returning to his replies with an equal wit. He had never seen a girl talk as rudely as her.

"Good for you, I am in a good mood today. So, I'll reveal my true identity to you. But don't tell a soul about it." He warned her beforehand.

"Good for you as well, I am in a mood to make a small talk with a stranger. So, I will listen to whatever it is." Her reply made him laugh.

"I am a spy working for the kingdom of Bellicus." He lied again.

"A spy you say! Then what a spy is doing in the forest, shouldn't you be eavesdropping the officials of the wolves?"

"Well, I was returning back to inform my higher ups about the plans of the wolves. And that's when I heard someone crying."

By his manner of clothing and the way his replies were so witty, Selene believed that he might indeed be a spy for her kingdom. She wondered if he recognized her, the princess of Bellicus. But it was obvious that he didn't because of the darkness that engulfed the surroundings.

"Now may I get your name, young lady?" Deimos inquired when he found her lost in her thoughts.

"I am the daughter of the richest merchant of Bellicus." She lied as well. The royal children were taught to not unveil their identity to the strangers.

"I doubt you would need any information more than this. But do remember my father has close connections with the King. If you dare harm me, you would rot in hell for the rest of your life." She intimidated him.

Deimos moved closer to her and she retreated back until she was right next to the edge of the cliff. He could hear the fear in her heart yet the courage she was putting up was inviting him.

"Stay back!" She warned him.

"Trust me I have no intentions of causing any harm to a person who belong to my kingdom." He replied as he moved closer and was now standing face to face with her.

He could now see her face properly. Unlike Selene, Deimos had night vision, one of his wolf-trait that he could use anytime he wished. He could effortlessly distinguish every tiniest detail of her face. Her eyes were sharp and shinier than the diamonds and the purplish hue made them even unique.

The silvery moonlight falling on them, helped Selene notice the dark colour of his hair. He was several figures taller and strongly built than her. She was a tad bit scared of finding a man as strong as him alone in the forest. There were so many possibilities that could take place in the blink of an eye and her mind was revolving around the worst of them.

Meanwhile, Deimos was still engulfed by her. Her skin was lighter than his and seemed like it was carved out of the moon itself. Earlier tonight all he knew was to address his packmates and undergo through transformation. Never had he ever thought that he would come across this enchanting creature, whom he had no intentions of letting go.

"What were you doing here alone?" He questioned in a sympathetic tone.

Selene noticed the sarcastic tone turn into a kinder one, and it caught her off guard and compelled her to answer to his question.

"I wished to take a stroll." She managed to pull a lie.

"You seem quite an adventurer, wishing to walk through the darkest and dangerous part of the forest at night. Bit odd for your kind, don't you agree?" He knew she was lying and decided to tease her.

"Is it odd because it's night time or because I am a girl? Do you mean to say that women should only stay behind the walls of their houses?" His words seem to have given her a nudge and previous incidents came flashing back in her mind. Selene was beginning to feel the anger she had suppressed earlier in Santok.

"I never said any of those things." Deimos was quite intrigued by her reply and wished to scratch more information out of her.
