This was the last sentence that made Gael to get mad at him. He knows what he has seen, his own had witnessed it too, but here he is, speaking rubbish. 

"What do you want from me?" she finally asked stopping, and gathering the courage to face him. 

"To punish you, hey, I am tired of having you as a girlfriend, why did you even have to tell that all those things? in fact, like I earlier said, I do not mind you, the person I blame is myself for telling a running mouth my secrets, you should never have known," he spat approaching her with more anger. 

She was now only three steps away from the pool, since she didn't look behind, she was unaware of that fact but then, she didn't have to worry again because she came in just in time to see the little girl fall in the water.
